  • An excellent product!
This is absolutely excellent! I'm a huge fan of the way Flashforge let's you upgrade your printer based on your needs. I honestly really wish more companies would build their products like this. Maybe you just want to print PLA and don't really need an enclosed. Making the base product this way allowed them to keep the price down for an overall excellent product. On top of that having the customer print out the vast majority of the parts themselves allows the enclosure kit to be very reasonably priced. You also really get to customize the printer enclosure the way you want to. I personally went with a cheap black PETG printed out in 0.2, just to make it a bit of a quicker process. I would recommend sticking with PETG or ABS just for strength. Some of the parts tend to want to crack when you put the screws in with PLA. I actually had the top screw post break even on PETG. I probably could have solved that by changing my print orientation to add some strength to those screw posts. All and all it did take about a roll and a half of PETG which ran about $21.00. I used some left over PLA for the face plate and handle for the top door. The print time was about 48 hours total. Mind you I didn't actually use my AD5X for that, I used my Neptune 4 Max for the larger build volume. I was super impressed by the way all the parts fit together so nicely! Who ever made the enclosure files did an excellent job. All of the screws fastened the way they should and were in the right locations. The plexiglass fit like a glove as well. The only real issue I had was with the spacer for the color switching unit. It prints out to thick for the screws they included. I ended up having to cut that part down in the slicer to get the screws to work. That is a problem too because now some cardboard spools want to rub against the IFS. I can fix that myself at a later date though. Still it was a small issue. Really the only one I ran into actually. Otherwise everything other then the printed material was encluded and worked well. I personally didn't watch a video or anything like that. I was able to just use the included instructions with no issues. They were very easy to follow. The enclosure itself is pretty functional mind you though there is still one thing you are going to want to keep in mind. I'll get into that in a moment. While the chamber itself isn't actually heated this enclosure works great anyway. The bed has to be really hot for ABS and as a result the enclosure gets plenty hot to handle ABS. I was also able to print PLA and PETG in the enclosure without an issue. Some people said they needed to leave the door open to get PLA to print right. I haven't experienced that yet. If that becomes a problem I'll probably just lower the bed temp since PLA doesn't really need that warm of a bed to print right, or really any heat at all, just some glue is fine. The enclosure works beautifully! That being said, you'll have to keep in mind there is no exhaust or filter system built into the AD5X. So while the enclosure will reduce dangerous off gassing from somthing like ABS it's still going to leak from the enclosure. Personally when I'm printing ABS I leave the room and just monitor it from the camera and then let it sit for a while once printing is done. The enclosure does reduce the noise level of the printer somewhat. I'm personally not bothered by the sounds of 3D printers. I kind of like the sound actually. But if you are bothered by that sound the enclosure will help but it's still very audible especially when the printer is swapping filament. The last thing I will say about this enclosure before wrapping up. Is I love how customizable this is as I said earlier. Printing out the parts really lets you make some very nice customizations. One I was able to make was moving the power switch to the front of the device. Someone had made a new name/faceplate to make this possible. Because if where my printer sits the power switch would not be easily accessible so having it in the front makes my life a ton easier. Since all of the parts are 3D printed it means that I'm not actually modifying the printer in any real way and the mod is completely reversible to stock. Mind you rewiring the power button did take some time and I really recommend you know at least basically what you are doing so you don't break your AD5X. That said though just having the ability to mod the enclosure like that is so nice. So would I recommend this enclosure? Yes, highly actually! If you want to print stuff like ABS, honestly it's a no brainer. ... show more

  • fun to print and setup, and multi color prints come out better
It took me a while to locate the flashforge page and find the files. On the flashforge wiki page, download the basic enclosure parts which is the first option. I printed from the AD5X in PLA for all but the smaller parts (such as hinges, door latch, horizontal part that the touchscreen control fits into, etc.) which I printed in PetG. While the Flashforge file prepared the files on separate plates I had issues printing in this way so i moved around and oriented the files basically printing the parts with similar heights together. Otherwise I had a lot of stringing and wasted prints where the files on the bed were of different heights. Anyway, after printing, set up was not that difficult. I checked online for an instructional video which made it easier and quicker than following the manual. Setup was done in about 10 minutes or less. If you used PLA be sure not to overtighten screws or it will crack or damage the print. I printed a multi color print and it came out quite good. temperatures seemed consistent and there was no stringing. My printer looks like a new and different printer and I am pleased with it. ... show more

  • The kit works but doesn't deliver the expected value
I am generally happy with the enclosure. It isn't as large as I expected, which is a good thing. Yes, I had to print my own parts to go with the plexiglass and screws. I knew that before purchasing this kit. Printing the parts took about a day. Assembly was pretty straightforward but took nearly 3 hours. I really wish the included hardware had used just one type of screw head. Having to go back and forth between Phillips and two sizes of hex heads was a bit of a pain. Shipping took over two weeks and came at the end of the delivery day window. Functionally, the enclosure works. It retains heat and keeps dust out. Don't expect it to make the machine super quiet, however. I tested the dB decrease to be only about 5dB and the enclosure doesn't really dampen the banging when changing filament. I did not detect the 10dB difference noted in the description. I was surprised that the holes in the side acrylic panels didn't line up with the holes in the frame. I was barely able to attach the filament system. My problem is that the acrylic panels now cover up holes that I was planning to use to mount a tool holder and perhaps other items. See included photos. Now I need to find a different solution. ... show more

  • Nice update
This is a great addition to my new flashforge AD5X printer, after printing my enclosure this kit brought everything together smoothly and it looks fantastic. As far as price goes, this kit is like upgrading an AD5M to an AD5M Pro at less than half the price, and you can print the enclosure to look and feel the way you want. Easy to install if you take your time. (Have something like a tray or paper plate to put the screws that you remove in so you won't mix them up). ... show more

  • Works perfect. Look good. Easy to install
Bought three of these. Work great for maintaining consistent heat in the AD5X. Great for breezy print lab. Yes you have to print parts for the kit, but not a issue. Was able to print colors to help id printers.

  • Great addition.
A couple of the screws could be longer (spacer for multifeed holder[5mm longer] and spool holders[2mm longer]). Plexiglass I cut perfectly and looks great.

  • Great value
Kit was shipped fast and had all the pieces and parts required to install. You have to print the frame rails on the print but these pieces fit right in. For the price this is a great value, and improves adhesion for your difficult filaments.
