  • Well Worth It
Weight: 10.0 Pounds
Well worth it for any camping trip. I put about 4-5 of this as kindling with my regular firewood and never have an issue with getting my fire started and keeping it going. If the main wood is wet I place a few more of these on and I am set. I am pretty sure that my box has gotten wet a few times out on my deck and these still work wonderfully! Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Straightforward Thoughts on the Fatwood Sticks
Weight: 10.0 Pounds
These Fatwood Fire Starter Sticks claim to make starting fires a breeze, whether it's for campfires, fireplaces, or bonfires. Weighing in at 10 pounds, the package promises enough material to start several fires using just two sticks each time. I've used these sticks several times, from backyard gatherings to camping trips. The ease of use is notable; even in damp conditions, the sticks catch fire quickly and burn hot enough to kickstart a decent fire without needing constant tending or additional accelerants. The natural resin in the wood contributes to the quick ignition and sustains the burn. However, this can create more smoke than expected, which might be a drawback for those sensitive to heavy smoke or with specific fire pit restrictions. Price-wise, they are on the pricier side compared to some other starters. Still, the convenience might justify the cost for regular campers or those frequently engaging in outdoor activities requiring a fire. For storage, the sticks are robust enough to handle being tossed in a camping bin or garage shelf without crumbling, although they do leave some resin residue—something to keep in mind if keeping them indoors or in a vehicle. In terms of improvement, less smoke and perhaps a more eco-friendly packaging option would make these even more appealing. For anyone looking for a reliable fire starter that reduces the fuss of building a fire from scratch, these sticks do the job well, albeit with a couple of minor issues to consider. ... show more

  • Burn great
Weight: 10.0 Pounds
I heated with a wood stove for 3 winters and fat wood became my fire starter of choice. Even today, I always keep some fat wood ready for my campfire pit. This is a 10 pound box, I normally used 2 or 3 pieces to get a good fire going, so this is enough for starting lots and lots of fires. It smells really good to me before it is lit. These light with a few seconds with a lighter or a match, no paper needed. Once lit, they do produce a lot of black smoke as the resin burns. But it is a fire starter, not meant to burn only this. Each stick burns maybe 5-10 minutes, based on its thickness, enough to get some logs going. And yes, it is smokey lighting a fire, no way around that, but as soon as these are burned out, the smoke is just from the wood you are burning. It is all natural, just pine resin, so looks really smokey for a few minutes, but not harmful smoke. Although it is helpful to have a few smaller pieces of wood for this to catch, I have been able to use 2-3 pieces with some "campfire wood" purchased on the side of the road, for a really nice campfire. No splitting off kindling, no chopping up wood, just threw in the whole bag on top of these, lit them and 10 minutes later was making s'mores. Campers around my site were still chopping and burning copious amounts of paper. If you heat with wood, enjoy camping, or just have a fire pit in your backyard, these things are great! ... show more

  • Nothing easier than fatwood.
Weight: 10.0 Pounds
I used to collect fatwood by finding fallen pine trees in the forest. I would cut the knobs and limbs off close to the trunk and inside the outer bark. Then shave those into smaller pieces and strips that can easily catch a spark or flame. From there, I build my fires to the desired size by first adding kindling and then larger pieces. I usually keep a stash of fatwood in my hiking backpack since the stuff will even light up in the rain. Now there are companies like this one doing the job for me making campfire and survival fire starting a breeze. These days even the big-box "HD" stores carry the product in sealed bags at a reasonable price. I say, don't leave home without it. I carry it any time I'm heading out into the woods to hike or camp. This 10LB box will give you plenty to last a long time as the fatwood takes a very long time to even start to dry out. The secret is the flammable resin inside the wood itself. I have a ready supply but when this item popped up, I did not hesitate to increase my stockpile. Once you use it, you'll always want it on hand for any wilderness excursion. ... show more

  • Updated review: It's a mixed box and it smells amazing
Weight: 10.0 Pounds
I opened the box and I was really excited as the pine smell hit me - they smell amazing! It looks like they found a piece of fatwood and anything that was with it got split up and went in the box as well. The top of my box was basically pine kindling. As I dug further down, I got to actual fatwood and it was glorious! Just be aware that it's a mix and you'll be set. Knocked a star off for the mix. ... show more

  • Burns quickly, works great!!
Weight: 10.0 Pounds
I love a good fire and am always looking for kindling to help get a nice one going in my fireplace. I live in an apartment, so hauling kindling or splitting wood (I have a wood splitter, just no place to really set it up) is either not really an option or very inconvenient (I also live on the second floor - there is only so much you can carry up the stairs and so many trips with heavy stuff that one can accomplish). These were delivered right to my door (so grateful for that) and are some of the best kindling I’ve used so far. I’ve tried other brands, but up to this point I like these the best. They are roughcut, quick to burn, and really help to get a fire burning quickly. Worth the price for 10 lbs. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Excellent Starters!
Weight: 10.0 Pounds
Light up really quickly, and you get a lot for the money. I may order another box. So much better than using a wax-based starter, or a bunch of ashy paper. Very happy!

  • Works good
Weight: 10.0 Pounds
10lbs of fire starter is pretty good and works very good. It is super easy to light and lasts some time. It does have sap that comes out but it's real wood so it's to be expected. Smells very good and like I said easy to light . Definitely a value for your money.
