Would definitely work better if mounted (hardware incl) but I wanted to see if I could qtr some Kiawe splits I had just bought to use in my smoker. I had my doubts as Kiawe is pretty hard but was suprised to run through about 40 lbs of "half-splits" about 10" long and make them into qtrs. Worth the money IMHO.

I absolutely love the weight of this wood splitter! It's incredibly sturdy and doesn't topple over easily. Although it came with clamps and screws to secure it, I don't have a suitable surface to clamp it down. Thankfully, its heaviness ensures that it remains upright without any additional support. Without a doubt, I highly recommend this fantastic item.

Works well, I use this tool as an easier way to split smaller logs into firewood, and I find it much easier than splitting with an axe. Plus, it makes me less nervous about my fingers!

This thing works great, would definitely save a trip to the ER. No more holding the wood to make kindling. I fastened to a log with supplied hold downs. Must have for camp fires or a fire place.

Used this heavily in fall when getting kindling and split logs ready for winter. It came well packaged, is very robust, and a little smaller than I was hoping for - but it works fine. I highly recommend mounting this to something as shown (on a tree stump). I mounted mine on a small 2 x 4 frame. Give it some stability, but also allows me to move it around. I also used a few ground anchors prior to making a little frame for it. That worked ok as well. It does come pretty sharp and I plan on sharpening it myself over the winter. It is double sided so you can flip it over and you have a fresh blade. And, the thing looks pretty darn sweet, with nice welds, and artistic accents. Great little tool for splitting wood, and I couldn't be happier. 5 stars.
