These shoes are great for beginners. I had a talk with a friend who said not to waste money on the plastic bear paw type of shoes and go for these. My kids strapped the shoes on and were able to easily maneuver in the shoes without tripping. The shoes come with poles, a carrying case, and attachments for mud/snow for the hiking poles. Glad I went for it and purchased these. I feel like they will last awhile....both kids have growing room in the boot straps. Highly recommend purchasing these! ... show more

These super lightweight snowshoes are terrific for our mountain snow! My kid is approx 75 lbs so we went with the 17" in ones and they seem to fit fine. There are no instructions in the kit - so refer to the photos and the retrospec website for more info on how to strap the onto boots. The poles are also great for winter and hiking in the summer. Very lightweight and adjustable for various heights. The metal on the snowshoes themselves is VERY sharp - so make sure your kids know how to use snowshoes properly and are not messing around with them or you could get hurt. There is a warning on the website and the tag as well. These will not let you slip on ice - so that's a good thing! Just be smart about your winter sports. In total I think it's less than 2.1 lb per foot of added weight - and the heel lifts that are built into the shoe offer less leg fatigue while out and about. Snow shoeing is hard work - this will help any kid! Overall a great purchase! Bonus: Comes with handy carrying bag! ... show more

This snowshoe was great and very value for money but somehow it snow got stuck in the bottom of the shoe which make it harder to snowshoe. Please advice.

Now that ski seasons gone (for east coast, very jealous of all the snow in the west!), we can pack up all the gear including these well loved snow shoes. We have our adult snowshoes for many years, and have been meaning to get kiddie ones for our children. We ordered this pair not hoping too much but we’re pleasantly surprised how well made and not just a “toy” these snowshoes are. They look really nice, more aesthetically pleasing than our adult ones for sure. They are easy to get on and off, and work just as well as ours. Mind you, we are not “professional” snowshoers (if there’s such a thing) so our snow shoes are good enough in our standard, as we ski and snowboard most of time and snowshoeing is just a side hobby. I love how there are poles with various bottom inserts for different ground condition. The metal spikes are great on gripping where there’s ice underneath the thin snow on some patches. We’ve only got this pair for our 9 yr. old which fits her well. We may get a smaller ones for our petite 7 yr. old. ... show more

I got this kit for my 8-year-old who is just about 50 pounds. I love the colors! The build feels solid, much nicer than the cheap plastic ones we had previously. These feel like they will last. You can see a lot of care has gone into their construction. They do not feel like they will fall apart, the seams look good, and the materials are quality. The poles are solid and feel like they will hold up to use. They have nice straps and the design will be comfortable for long-term use. The handles are padded and the grips are well done. The variety of tips means these will be useful for day hikes as well. I like that they are so easy to convert on the trail. The attachment to the shoe also takes this into consideration which is great because our favorite trail is often a mix of snow and gravel. I love that it comes with a bag and that it has airy holes so that it can air out. This makes it easier to carry a kit like this for a day hike. I will start by saying that we don't have snow right now, so that part of this review is hypothetical!! However, I have a friend visiting from Colorado who is a ski instructor, and she looked over these and gave a giant thumb's up!! We tried them on our little one, and he was able to maneuver around the house. They are much easier to walk in than my idea of snowshoes (the kind that look like tennis racquets)! They are light, yet strong, and include a carrying bag, a nice feature. She was impressed and said they were well-priced, so I'd say they are winners. If we ever get some snow, I'll revisit this review!! ... show more
