We used our fire pit for the first time this weekend while camping. On Friday, we kept the wood below the top rim of the fire pit and the fire was almost smoke free. The clothes we were wearing did not smell like a camp fire!! Of course if you go above the top rim, there will be tons of smoke. Friday, I used an infrared thermometer, and the sides were at about 180 degrees and the fire was 890 degrees to over 1000 degrees. So don't touch the pit itself until it cools down!!! The pictures are when we kept the wood below the top rim.

Solid fire pit that's easy to put together. Comes with a bag although it's quite heavy when all the pieces are in it. One of my pieces came with a slight bend and chip at one of the points that lock in. Not a big deal really. It was the only flaw. Works great in our backyard and I can pack it up when the weather sucks or if we should ever want to take it with us. You just won't be hiking with it. Haha

I bought this mostly because I compost everything compostable, and I have found that glossy magazines take a long time to compost, and are still largely uncomposted, even when shredded, long after the shredded cardboard and newspaper have been composted. Still, I hate dumping them in the landfill. I had thought of making a firepit from cinder blocks or bricks but the cost involved wouldn't have been much of savings over this firepit, and this is more convenient and better looking. This is made of some heavy metal, and I have no reason to believe that it won't last a long time. I'm seventy, so I doubt that I'll ever have to buy another one. On that subject, the advertising copy suggests that this is something that you might want to carry with you on a wilderness outing, and I am thinking that unless your idea of a wilderness outing is one that you can drive to, this is far too heavy for that. At about eighteen pounds, this isn't something I'd want to carry with me on a wilderness trek. However, I have a hundred acres of woodland with a camp on it and there is an area of my woodland where I sometimes do primitive camping. That would be a hike of about a mile, and I might be willing to carry something like this out there once, as long as I can leave it there for subsequent uses. I am thinking of buying another one for that purpose, but I wouldn't lug the one that I have back and forth every time I want to use it. I kind of like to bring some other stuff with me too, when I am camping. That said, this is well-built, made of durable metal, and reasonably easy to assemble. I did have to cuss at it a couple of times and slam it a few times with my rubber mallet but, once these essential steps were out of the way, it went together pretty well. Later... having used this a few times now, I am upping my rating to five stars. The assembly was easy, it's durable, it looks good, and it works great. As a non-essential tip, I placed mine on some small bricks to improve the airflow and make it easier for me to reach it. It burned fine at ground level, though. Later... I have been using this all summer, fall, and winter, and it is doing very well. I have added a heavy metal cover to it, which was made to be the base of a display case and, with the cover in place, this will hold the heat for a long time. Several hours after burning wood in it, it's still hot and has enough coals to restart a fire. 1 year and 4 months later... My firepit is holding up just fine, and I've ordered a second one to bring up to my land up north. It would be safer than just starting a fire on the ground.

The convenience of a compact unit is ideal, But it has a few flaws. The pit should Have taller legs to avoid burning the ground. The pit also warps due to the intense heat. This will prematurely damage it making the unit not lasting very long. Ignoring all it's small flaws, The pit is an enjoyable outdoor toy. It's an extra tool to get you outside...

The material is heavier than I expected. The overall pit is larger than I expected. It is more than perfect for our patio. We wanted a flame & ambiance & this delivered. The reviews led me to believe it was small - but it is much larger than an average duraflame type log. Very pleased with the ease of assembly & love that it comes with a carry case for periods when I know it will not be in use & want to store it away.

Purchased this for my daughterโs boyfriend for Xmas and although he had a strange look on his face because the package was very heavy he was really excited when he opened it! So excited he used it the very next day by taking it to his Moms house and quickly assembled it and was able to quickly start a backyard bonfire! And the best thing about it is he was able to take it back home hours later! This is a great gift for anyone who likes to have little backyard bonfires!
