  • GREAT SPRAYER....!!!! Buy it...
This review is for 25 Gallon Spot Sprayer with a 12 Volt, 1.0 GPM Pump, Low Flow Handgun w/15' of Hose . At the time I selected and ordered this spot sprayer, there was only one other review posted by a person named R.W. Milyard "Gear Junky" http://www.amazon.com/gp/pdp/profile/AKYDGCKCY7H9F/ref=cm_cr_pr_pdp. This individual had obviously researched these spray units quite extensively, had purchased this particular version, and had given it a 5-star rating along with an excellent review.. This, along with the fact that I tend to research products extensively before buying also helped me to decide on this spray rig. This is the 1st sprayer of this type I have ever purchased and, overall, I am quite happy with my decision to buy this product. The entire unit is quite light weight when empty yet appears to be built quite strong and serviceable. I heartily recommend it to anyone who has a lot of area to spray and is just tuckered out from using a 1 or 2 gallon pump-up spray bottle or a backpack sprayer.. That is assuming of course that you have a method of hauling around a tank that, when full, weighs about 200+ pounds along with a 12vdc RV battery that it takes to operate the pump. What follows is my limited experience, to date, using this spot sprayer.. Purchase: Ordered through Amazon.com on 13 Sept 2012, and sold by a company named Nationwide Wholesale Direct, http://www.amazon.com/gp/aag/main?ie=UTF8&asin=&isAmazonFulfilled=0&isCBA=&marketplaceID=ATVPDKIKX0DER&seller=A1IE1F441E2DSV Cost: The total price to me, delivered was $155.48. This is an excellent deal for me considering the time and effort it will save me vs what I've previously expended using a 2 gallon hand-pump sprayer.. Shipping: Tracking information I received throughout indicated this tank should ship on Sept 18th or 19th with an ETA to me of 21 to 26 Sept. The item actually shipped on 17 Sept and arrived before noon on 20 Sept, one day before the earliest date expected. That's a total of 7 days from order to delivery, which I consider to be pretty good. Congrats to the seller for the timely shipping.. Packaging: The packaging of this tank SUCKS and I rate the packaging at 1-star...!! The tank arrived with a broken drain cap which rendered the tank and therefore the entire unit unusable. This tank comes packed in a substantial cardboard container of adequate size and strength. The problem is that there was no dunnage or bracing whatsoever inside the packing box to stabilize the tank and prevent it from rattling around in the box during shipping.. This allowed the tank drain and drain cap to be driven completely through the thick cardboard box, exposing it to the outside environment, which fractured the cap in the process.. Needless to say I was quite unhappy about these circumstances.. Aside from the broken drain cap, the tank, pump, and everything else appeared to be in excellent condition.. Still, some kind of cushioning should be used to prevent the tank drain and cap from being damaged during shipping.. Lemons to Lemonade: I called the manufacturer's office, FIMCO, late Friday afternoon, attempting to get a new drain cap, and was advised by voice message that they were closed until the following Monday.. Not being able to get this rig running until after I got a new drain cap meant I'd lose at least a full weekend of spray time.. As I looked at the broken cap, it occurred to me that it looked quite familiar. That's when I realized that it appeared to be a standard screw-on cap that would work on the end of an outdoor faucet or a regular everyday garden hose.. Checking in my "spares box" I discovered not only a usable cap and washer, I also realized that the threaded male drain on the new tank could easily accept a garden hose or hose accessories.. I found a shut-off valve identical to Gilmour Brass Garden Hose Connector With Shut-Off Valve 03V that worked well over the drain outlet.. In a way, it was a blessing that the drain cap had broken because now I have a valve assembly on the tank drain that hitches up to a water hose and allows me to bottom fill or drain the tank wherever and whenever I wish.. Life don't get much better than that.. Instructions: There is a comprehensive 3-page Owner's Manual provided. It concisely discusses the warranty, operation, tech specs, assembly, troubleshooting, cleaning, and winter storage of the tank and pump assembly. It also includes very useful drawings and parts lists that appear to include about everything a person would need to maintain the product. Frankly, I was very impressed with the forthrightness of the little manual.. It is straightforward and without a lot of legalese.. Also included are FIMCO's website and toll free phone and fax #.. FIMCO INDUSTRIES appears to be a rather no-frills yet very customer-oriented company.. I like that... Generalities: As mentioned, the tank itself is quite substantial and strong. Moulded into the tank body itself is a fluid quantity gauge that tells how many gallons are in the tank. The fluid quantity gauge is a little tough to read in some lighting but not bad when you get the hang of it. The entire tank and spray assembly is quite lightweight when empty and can easily be moved and placed without a hassle. The liquid spray components; tank, hose, nozzle, pump, etc., come fully assembled, properly installed, and ready for use. The only thing required is to connect the idiot-proof 2-wire electrical plug between the clip-on battery cables and the wire tail on the pump. I liked the simplicity of set-up. Oh, yes, the tank lid must also be screwed in place after filling and before use. The tank lid, incidentally is quite large to easily add product or use a stirring rod. The lid is also vented and has a tether to keep it from falling away or getting lost. Additionally, there are two spray rod storage mounts and screws, provided separately in a plastic bag, that are designed to be installed in designated locations on the tank itself. These, to me, are optional but not necessary for tank operation, but they certainly hold the metal spray rod securely. Other than the hassle with the broken drain plug, this tank assembly comes pretty much ready to use with minimum preparation effort.. In fact, were I to guess, with no problems like the broken drain cap, it would only take less than five minutes to open the packing box, set the tank in place, and connect the wires before you're ready to fill and use the tank.. Spraying: 1. My intended use of this sprayer was to spray RoundUp Pro to kill weeds on my property. After using the tank, I now see many other uses for it. The mix I used is 25 gallons of faucet water, 50 oz of RoundUp Pro, and about 4-oz of Dawn dishwashing soap to help break the surface tension on the plant leaves when applying the RoundUp. I haul the tank and RV battery around in the bed of my small John Deere trailer pulled by my John Deere L110 Lawn Tractor. Since my property is sort of level, or only slightly sloped, I leave the tailgate off the trailer which allows the tank drain valve to hang out over the back of the trailer for easy access to fill or drain the tank using a garden hose. I operate the unit at walking speed and find no need for tie-downs for either the tank or the battery. 2. After unpacking and installing the new shut-off drain valve, I placed the spray tank into the trailer bed and filled the tank full to the 25 gallon mark. Without adding any chemicals I tested the tank spray system and found everything to work properly with no leaks anywhere. I then allowed the filled tank to sit in the trailer overnight to check for any possible fluid leaks I may have missed.. Next morning I was pleased to discover the tank exterior and trailer interior were dry and showed no signs of tank or fitting leakage. 3. The RoundUp and liquid soap were added to the tank and thoroughly stirred in with a wooden stirring rod like you'd use in a 5 gallon paint bucket.. It worked great. 4. Drove the rig to the 1st application location, a large vine crawling up a light pole, fence, and my garage. 5. The sprayer has two clips that attach to the battery terminals. There is also an on-off switch on those wires to the battery and another on-off switch on the electric pump itself. The unit will not operate without the battery clips being connected and BOTH electrical switches being in the ON position. This was now done. 6. The pump is an "on demand" type pump, meaning the pump only runs when the trigger for the spray nozzle is pressed to start spraying.. When the electrical circuit to the pump is operational, the pump will initially run to charge the supply hose with fluid but you must hold in the spray trigger to allow the spray hose to purge the air and fill with fluid. At 35 psi the pump shuts off automatically and remains off until the trigger is pressed again to start spraying. 7. I pointed the spray nozzle at the vine, pressed the spray trigger, and the darn thing started to work exactly as they said it would.. None of the components in the liquid delivery system leaked anywhere. It is a tightly sealed, easy to operate spray system. Happy days..!! 8. The spray nozzle is decent but touchy to use. It takes a bit of adjusting to get the nozzle to spray the pattern desired for the conditions at hand. Still, once the pattern is set, it seems the nozzle does not "creep" or slowly change the spray pattern. All in all, it appears to be a good, easy to use hose and nozzle assembly. 9. The spray hose is more than long enuf to allow for spraying while driving the tractor. Consequently it is quite easy, and comfortable, to spray and drive at the same time. I kept asking myself, "Why didn't I think of this YEARS AGO..????" The time and effort I now save by using this spray rig is beyond belief. 10. Spraying the 1st 25 gallons went off without a hitch. The same was true for the 2nd 25 gallons of liquid. While the pump is only a 1 gpm pump, it appeared to provide an adequate flow rate to easily cover what I had intended. Both the distance and height of the spray are more than adequate for my purposes. I know higher capacity pumps are available and easy to install, but for now and the foreseeable future I believe this pump should work just fine for my needs. Roundup is not cheap and I believe a higher volume pump would just cause me to apply more than I needed for a given situation. 11. The tank is designed to have a drainage trough, of sorts, in the bottom. The fluid intake to the pump is located in this trough and does an excellent job of removing most of the spray mix from the tank interior before the pump starts cavitating due to fluid starvation. At the end of the 2nd load, when the pump could pump no more, I drained the remaining mixture into a measuring container. Less than one and one-half QUART of spray mix remains inside the tank when the pump shut off due to fluid shortage. To my mind that is a pretty efficient design, and certainly reduces the necessity of dealing with larger quantities of mixed fluid when the pump won't pump any longer.. 12. For more spraying simply fill the tank and start over again. 13. At the conclusion of spraying, all that is required is to flush the tank, pump, and spray lines with fresh water.. Don't forget, at the end of the spray season, to follow the winterizing instructions in the Operator's Manual. 14. One final spray note.. When you are finished, turn off the electrical switches so they won't turn the motor on when you next connect the battery. Then disconnect the spring clamps from the battery.. Lastly, after the electrical components are disconnected, don't forget to depress the spray trigger one more time to unload any pressure that may still be left in the hose. 15. That's all there is to the spraying and clean-up.. As they say, "It's so simple, a caveman could do it." From what I have experienced to date with this Spot Sprayer, even considering the damaged drain cap which was easily fixed, I'd certainly recommend this product to a good friend in need of a similar item, and confidently believe it would be a valuable asset to them.. ... show more

  • Seized pump
Worked alright after having to unseize the pump! Instructions say you may have to spray it with wd40. How much would it take for them to actually do it during assembly? Glad we got it working! It would have been a pain to return!

  • Best price by far using 1.0 gpm pump
Amazon has the best price on any of the three packages available for the 25 gal. tank. Ordered the 1.0GPM unit because summer and the bugs are coming as we are in our seventh year of the weather cycle, and as usual, it has been a wet one. (Weather cycles usually run 3 and 7) I have two acres that are encircled with around a hundred oleanders and other plants and they all came down with aphids last year (even the weeds)and I took care of it with a back pack unit that turned out to be to much work. This unit on my Toro Workman should take care of that problem this year. Finally got the unit and it works great; hooked it up to the Workman battery and bungied it down and was off driving and spraying like a madman. This is a good unit, but you should not expect it to hit the top of trees as it won't. It does cover 6 to 12 foot high bushes just fine. The pump only comes on when you start to spray, and shuts off when you stop, so no big drain on a battery. Addendum: Have used the unit for two seasons now and changed over the 1.0GPM pump to the 3.8 and added a 50 foot hose and am running the pump off of a charged up car battery. It takes two and a half tanks to do my property, so you can see this was needed and works great. The pump conversion was not difficult, so you can use the 1.0 pump tank for any of the three pumps available. You just won't get the fancy gauges on the more expensive 3.8 package. ... show more

  • Slightly Disappointed
I bought this as a replacement for a smaller unit I had purchased from Cabelas. The pump is smaller and does not a shut off switch, which means you have to unplug it time you want to turn it off. The quality of the gun (plastic parts) was not as good as the cheaper item from Cabelas.

  • It puts out a good stream.
So far I have only run one tank full through this. It puts out a good stream.... and the output can be adjusted some by how tight or loose you screw the nozzle on. I live in a jungle... and this will help keep it at bay. Tied it on my 4 wheeler, attached it to my battery... and off I go.

I have put 75 gals. thru it so far. My only complaint is the last couple gals are hard to pump out unless you are on flat ground.
