I've had this baby less than a week, but here are first impressions: this is a solid rig. This is the second rig I've ever owned and is far superior to any of the cheaper ones Amazon offers. I am 5'1" and 130 lbs and this thing is HEAVY. While it's a pain right now, I feel encouraged to practice with it and build up my arm muscles because it is so sturdy and to get the best use out of it muscles are necessary. The instructions were emailed instead of in the box, which worked fine. I had a few extra parts that I didn't use in assembly for some reason despite following the manual to a t. Once built and adjusted specifically to my Canon 80d with an 85mm 1.8 lens, this thing is killer. It looks and feels extremely professional. The shoulder pad is not very comfortable but that is easily replaced. Shipping was super fast and everything was packaged individually and safely. I do wish the arm handles were a bit longer and tighter; mine keep loosening during use but nothing I would call a deal breaker. If you need a rig on a poor man's budget, please get this one and not the flimsy cheaper ones. I feel confident in the durability of this rig and get absolutely giddy every time I pick it up. ... show more

After an hour of customizing this rig to my liking, i love it. The optional pieces are very handy when you are in a versatile film situation. Very good product, hope it last for more than a year, but at this price, I will but another as backup. Great Rig. Got it in three business days. The weight can be heavy after a while, but that's where the tripod comes in handy. It's best use is for light equipment (i.e. do not load this up with lots of equipment/accessories and then carry for hours, your arms and back will wear out). Matte Box: Sturdy, make sure you tighten red screws. Awesome product it self. It holds filters. Handle Bars: OK, could be of better quality, but not a deal breaker Quick Release Plate: This is OK for light use, I would look into a metal for heavy duty use. C Stand/Bar: Nice. Very handy when you need to carry this or use at a low angle. Shoulder Pad: Ok for now, a more comfortable one for heavy duty use would be preferred, not too bad for starter rigs. Counter Weight: This and the matte box are the best accessories to the rig itself. Rig: Overall a good rig. You're able to customize this, so you do not have to build it as shown in instruction book. I replaced longer bars with the shorter bars so I could reach my front handle bars (my arms are not that long). I only added my Rode mic and 160 LED Light. I will soon add a follow focus and that will complete my rig. any external monitors would go on a separate tripod as this is already heavy enough with just the camera and lens. This took me an hour to put together, if I were to buy another, it would take 1/2 the time so don't give up! Great product! Here are a few pics of the rig itself. i am a pro producer and have pro gear, but i wanted a couple rigs i could keep in my car for run and gun "pop up" shots so i did a lot of research. This particular rig seems to give the MOST features for the money. First it is a plastic rig w metal rods and i feel i will have to be very careful not to overtighten any of the nuts and knobs...that said, it is a great rig for the money i really like it. it is very complete and the matte box alone is worth the money. as the description says it comes as pictured and for $125. thats a lot that it comes with. im using an expensive follow focus from a different company because a good FF is important to me. the full rig with a cine lens and a basic DSLR without audio is pretty heavy so the counter balance helps...again cant go wrong for the money. if u shop around on ebay and amazon for knock of foreign rigs under $150, i challenge you to find one with this many 15mm rods, this long and this quality matte box. im confident the plastic cage would provide adequate protection for at least one incursion, which is good enough. Filmcity has many rigs ranging in price with similar equipment, however this rig had the most feature for the buck. its heavy decked out, but i took off the shoulder rods and top of the cage and handles, and have a light weight rail system that cost less than the rails and quick release plate alone, so no matter how you look at it, it IS worth the amazon price of $125. NEXT the big surprise!!!!! i ordered it and at checkout, it said 18-30 days delivery from India...i figured for the money, so what, and ordered it anyhow...when i checked the status 2 days after ordering, it still said about 20 days till delivery...when i check my mail 4 days after ordering it, it had arrived!!!!!! cheap basic packaging, but so what, it came as described in ONLY 4 days!!!WOW good job Film city. i had received everything from India in only 4 days, i cant send a package from the west coast to the east coast in 4 days without paying a fortune. I am very impressed and very satisfied. the rig looks bada#% too. im liking it more than my $5000.00 rig, not because quality is better, but because the functionality is good and it was Affordable...even if it only lasts a year, im sure it will last longer, i could buy a new one every year for 46 years and still not spend what i did on my pro rig, so dont bash the plastic...it works and it looks great, and its only $125. is it a cheap knock off, yea, but it is sturdy enough, its functional, the mattebox is better than the little sunshades, this one hold filters, and ITS ONLY $125. unless you have the budget save your money and buy a better follow focus and Glass. hope this review helps ... show more

It arrived within 3 days of ordering. I was completely surprised since it came from overseas to the U.S. Everything was packaged very nicely, the directions on putting it together are simple, and this rig is WELL WORTH IT!! Its a nice piece that can be modified to your liking. I highly recommend this for anyone looking to add a starter rig to their collection. Very impressive looking as well. Shades are metal, and everything holds very secure inside the rig. I use a Canon 70D and have EASY access to the battery compartment and the SD card compartment. Make sure you have a tripod that can handle the weight of the rig with the camera attached. Very nice piece. Already getting compliments on the looks of the entire setup. I tried the "holding the camera steady" walk without the rig, and then did the walk with the rig - total difference in how smooth the shot was. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. When I write a review for a product, I take into account the price of the product. If something cost $100 then I will be objective about the quality and value of the product for that $100. That being said, this is my first "full scale" p[professional DSLR shoulder rig. I use a GH-2 and other than the directions lacking somewhat, I am impressed to no end! The feel of the grips, the solid construction even though some pieces are plastic, the use of the counterweight, the quick release, mounting on my tripod...I can't say enough. Having this new piece of gear makes me FEEL more professional and I know I will push my envelope to be more creative. As a professional (fee for services) I have learned my clients will respond to my gear. If it looks expensive, their confidence goes up and they will write a check quicker. This piece definitely looks professional in every way. This with a slider, fluid head tripod and lights means you can get some checks...if you have the skill. I am super happy and for the price, it will be hard to beat. I will buy from these guys again! Oh, by the way, like everybody else said, the shipping was freaky fast! Amazing especially for the price! I am fairly new at DSLR filming and the FILMCITY DSLR Shoulder Rig kit is perfect for beginners and intermediate level film makers. I say beginners because many of the parts here are basically a very durable resin/plastic material but indeed very strong and I trust my gear with it. With advanced rigs, all parts are either metal or carbon which you can swap parts for as you build your budget over time. From the start I checked many youtube reviews of this rig and spared myself any hassles by changing out any parts from the get go. As I go I will swap out for more pro parts which will save $$$ over time. But right out of the box, it's simply amazing and gives you that professional cinematographer look. This is the lace to start! As you can see from my photos, I have swapped out a number of parts already. Shipping took 3-4 days 100% recommend!!! Update: now having used this for over a year on numerous projects and upgrading parts as I go I still firmly believe this rig is the best place to start and I still use many of it's parts. ... show more

    • Best rig I have seen in 40yrs of film production.
I've owned $2k rigs that don't come close to the features, flexibility and solid build of this unit. I will be adding four more to our production inventory they are that good. I can mount from a DSLR to a ARRI Alexa...you can't get any more flexible. I'm using the rig on a SteadiCam(photos), on a 40ft camera boom, tripod and because the handle is so very stout we can free float it as well. You may think the shipping cost is a little high, but it got to me in three (not counting Sunday)days. I ordered it at 1am Friday morning and I received it 9am Monday morning...and Monday was presidents day. Seriously, I am ordering four more units so I will have five. I will either be loaning or renting out one unit and the others get fully rigged with cameras for my production company. Besides all the ways it can be configured they even include a low mode for cameras with a handle for mounting either the handle grip that comes with it or just attaching lights or mics. I can not recommend this unit more strongly...you have to have this for your production cameras.
