  • Here's what you need to know
First, expect frustration. You are pretty much on your own trying to figure out how it works. Also DO NOT plug it into a TV til you try it out looking at the screen first. If the screen shuts off, it’s because you have the TV plug plugged into the back. (that took me a while to figure out!) Second, it comes in default negative mode. If you want to do slides you have to go into menu/film type/slides and choose a setting then hit OK. To scan it has to be in capture mode. Then hit OK. That turns the screen on so it can scan/capture the slide. Once you're there, hit SCAN and OK and it will capture. After you've done a dozen or so (up to about 35) then you want to get them into your computer. (I'm scanning one small box at a time). Then to get it to go to your computer you have to put it into USB mode and hit OK. I’m on a Mac so I opened Photos, and it shows up as “no Name” device. Then you import. Then you need to adjust the color/contrast/etc. You can AND SHOULD do some adjusting of light and dark (when you're in capture mode, hit the OK button and 4 settings (light/dark, Red, Green, Blue) will appear) because if you leave it on one setting some photos may be too dark, and some too light/blown out. I found myself taking two captures on some, just to be sure I got it right. If you want good results, you're going to have to learn to use the editing software on your computer's photo app. Using the RGB on the scanner is not a good idea because you can't really see detail on the screen. And understand these are slides, they’re not going to be super great. Especially if they're OLD. You will have to tweak the light/dark, the color saturation etc. to get what you want. Might be a good idea to blow/wipe off each slide. And it WILL do metal clad slides, BUT ONLY if you take the door off the slide contraption, put the metal slide against the hole and slide it in, capture and back out the way it came in. You won't be able to feed them through right to left like you can with cardboard slides, which makes doing metal ones tedious. All in all, NOW THAT I KNOW HOW IT WORKS (no thanks to the company or the manual) it's a great way to preserve and share memories locked up in slides that have been sitting in a closet for 50 years! It loses a star for the complete lack of instructions from the company. Also note it did freeze up a few times. Just unplug from the back and re-plug/restart. OH AND ONE VERY IMPORTANT NOTE! On the RESOLUTION it has a 14M and 22M setting, AND WHEN YOU SHUT DOWN, IT REVERTS TO 14. SO YOU HAVE TO RE-SET IT EVERY TIME! (Pyle needs to fix that, because if it can save the slide not negative setting, it can save the 22M setting, but it doesn't currently.) ... show more

  • Good but not great
Was easy to use but picture quality is hit and miss.Slides never came out looking anything like the original slides. Some photos have a red tint.If you just want to cherish long lost memories from negatives you will be happy with it.For us who wanted more it disappoints.

  • Works For My Needs
Reviews from every scanner I looked at complain about the color balance, and this one is no better, but some of the problems were from degradation of the slides and negatives themselves. Some photos came out great, others were so extreme I changed them to B&W, but that's a perfect solution for me. The image is sharper in B&W, and except for landscape or flower photos, the color doesn't matter to me. This scanner works for my needs, and it's easy to use once you figure it out. (I watched a video first.) Overall, I'm happy with it, but don't expect miracles. ... show more

  • Negative and Slide Trays don't Open
And I don't want to force them. They look like they'd break.

  • Poor Performance
This was a waste of my time. Poor everything unfortunately.

  • Easy to use.
A friend showed me how to use the scanner because I am a visual learner and tech deficient. So simple to use. I have a couple friends asking to use the machine after I am finished scanning my slides. The seller offered to help explain the machine if I did not understand the directions.

  • Quality of editing device was not as expected.
Photos of product looked better than actual product. Unit was more like a toy than a quality negative or slide to .pdf format.
