Local pool company wanted $200-$250 for rebuild. Took me about 1.5 hours, only because I stripped two screws, otherwise would have taken less than 1 hour. So much cheaper and easy to rebuild. Our Polaris 280 runs like new, even climbs the walls.

    • Just what was needed to get it running like new!

March 27, 2024 update - hard to believe I wrote this review 7 years ago. Everything held up and has been working fine but needs another rebuild. I ordered the kit today and see it now includes the swing axle and driveshaft. This high quality kit has most of what you need to get your 280 pool vac back to like-new functionality at a small fraction of the cost of a new one. The directions are clear and it took about a half-hour to disassemble and reassemble. In my case I probably would have been better served by buying the more expensive kit that includes the swing axle replacement kit and the drive shaft assembly. The old plastic bearings were somewhat bonded to the swing axle and there were some anxious moments taking it apart. After the fact I had to order a new drive shaft so I will be performing another disassembly/reassembly. That said, the cleaner works fine, like new, but I will feel better with a new drive shaft in place. A note, some type of power driver makes disassembly easy and quick, but care must be taken if you use for reassembly so that you do not strip any of the threads on the screw holes. ... show more

    • Excellent Polaris Tune Up Kit

This is a great Polaris tune up kit! I have a Polaris 280 from 2012 that was really moving slow. It wouldn’t climb the pool walls and often just stopped until I had previously replaced the wheel coverings a couple of times and replaced a wheel that broke a few years back. I also run the pool pump and Polaris year round in the Atlanta metro area (I use a leaf cover in the off season). I didn’t want to spend $500+ for a new Polaris. So I bought the tune up kit from Amazon which was delivered just one day after I ordered it! I have used both Polaris 180 and 280 Vac-Cleaners for my pool for over a decade. I followed the easy tuneup instructions with picture photos and also watched the YouTube video from Fibropool which was very helpful on removing old parts and replacing new parts in order. I t took me about 30 minutes to change out the driveshaft bearings, new wheels with bearings which came with new plastic screws, new sweep tail, etc. Probably could have taken less time, but I paid more attention to details and made sure all parts fit correctly and were tightened snuggly. No problems with the parts. I also recently replaced the backup valve too. I put my tuned up Polaris 280 back in the pool for a test drive. I saw immediate improvement to the speed and ability to move faster and up the pool walls. After a week in the pool, my Polaris is running like new again and doing a great job with picking up debris. Kit seemed well made and all the parts fit. It installed pretty easily and Fibrepool has a good installation video on YouTube and they also provide some instruction photos in with the kit which are screen shots from their video. I had one issue…one of the blue impeller bearings was bad (basically seized, it would only turn if I applied force to it) so I ended up using my old original bearings as they were still running smoothly. It is not worth my time to request a replacement bearing and tear down my cleaner, my suggestion to the Fibrepool is to consider adding an extra bearing or two to the kit to avoid these quality control misses. ... show more

Last year I took my 280 into a nationwide pool store because it wasn’t getting all of the pool. They did the tune up and charged me somewhere between 150-200 for parts and labor. Well this year I noticed that the vac just wasn’t working. While troubleshooting I identified that the wheels kept getting stuck. Rather than back to the pool store, I decided to give this kit a shot. Assembly was easy and pretty intuitive. I only had to refer to the instructions once. The product appears to be working great and I am very happy with the quality of parts, fit and function, and relative ease of assembly. I would like to add a recommendation to potential customers; You might want to disassemble your pool sweep prior to opening all of the parts. I found that over years, some threads were stripped/missing on my polaris sweep. I was able to improvise a solution with my local hardware store, but am uncertain how long my "fix" will last. ... show more
