  • By far best value and quality in Surf rod at this price
Got the rod a couple weeks ago and finally got to do some test casts. Here are the pros and cons I've deduced. Pros: -12 damn feet long -casts a mile. If you're using braid you must tape your casting finger so that when you apply pressure to cast the line doesn't cut into your finger. -very sturdy rod yet sensitive and responsive enough to feel bites from tiny interference fish -the bottom of the rod looks just like a tsunami airwave, in terms of grip tape and butt of the rod. Cons (sort of): - after a year of use the guide at the tip developed a crack but customer service was more than helpful and took care of it immediately, politely, and at no cost - With the value you get and the top notch quality service it will be hard not to buy more Conclusion: For $60 you get a phenomenal bait chunking rod or heavy lure rod that casts a mile. I recommend a minimum of a 5000 size reel (Penn sizing, which is equivalent of daiwa 4000) Update: Been using this rod for two years now and I'm very impressed. I got used to handling a 12ft rod and the quality for price is amazing. Pulled in a 30+ pound cownose ray at one point without a problem, and I used the butt of the rod to push the ray back into the water (turns out cownose rays are nearly harmless, but better safe than sorry). After a year the only problem that ever came up was the smallest guide cracking and customer service took care of it by the time I could write a thank you email. There's no other surfcasting rod brand of such quality at this price point. Tsunami and tika charge more for similar spec rods, are very difficult to buy online, and tsunamis from my experience are far more fragile than my Fiblink rod. I will be purchasing a 10ft model from Fiblink for lure use. ... show more

  • Best surf fishing rod for the money
Style: A: 10'-2pcs
I first bough one of these last last year to fish off the beach in Florida. I had a 7 foot rod that did not cast very far. The rod came in a very nice travel bag as it is a 2 piece rod. So, I put a Penn Pursuit III reel on the rod and went fishing. The rod is excellent. It is light weight yet very sturdy. It casts really really well and reacts extremely fast. Loved the rod so much, I bought a second one a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, I had a little issue with the second one - so I emailed the manufacturer and they took care of it immediately. Overall, this is a very nice 10-foot casting rod with excellent price. I actually use it when fishing on the pier as well. Update 6/4/21 - after the seller found out about my problem with the rod, they send me a brand new one no charge. Love the rod and the seller - very customer friendly and responsive company. ... show more

  • Absolutely wonderful quality and very professional
The media could not be loaded. I got two 12ft of these for surf fishing in Florida (I often catch black tip sharks, too). Paired with Goture baitfeeder 6000, 280 yds of 50lb braid. PROS: - it looks and feels absolutely professional - the guides on both rods were in perfect condition - a lot lighter than the 10ft daiwa I had - casting has massively improved (I estimate 35-40% from the old rods) - very sensitive and a lot of back bone CONS: - none so far, I will update if anything changes Later update: my largest guide had a crack in the ceramic insert and it failed completely while casting. I contacted Customer service. They usually respond within a few hours and, after a few emails back and forth, they replaced my rod. I appreciate their care for customers. UPDATE May 2018: as the sharks started hanging out closer and closer to shore, so have I :) Last Friday I got 3 sharks between 3-4.5 ft (5-15 min fight time each) and then I hooked into something gigantic. 50 minutes into the fight (which was ridiculously slow, it was like I had hooked a sloth!), my 50lb braid gave up, while the thing was 10 yards from shore. I still don't know what it was, but we assumed it was a stingray at least 100lb. The point of the story is that the rod was absolutely phenomenal! At some point I was forcing it with all I had to drag the fish towards the shore and the rod really really helped me! Again, I recommend it strongly for surf fishing! ... show more

  • Great out of the box - will update when used…
Style: C: 11'-4pcs
Update after using So far I’ve had these rods (11’ 4pc and 9’ 3pc) rigged for fishing in the surf (gulf of Mexico) for a few days. Im still rating them 4 stars - nothing has blown up yet even though Im slinging heavy rigs. The 9’ rod (MS903?) casts a double pompano rig with 2-3oz like a cannon. My biggest complaints for this rod - still the matte graphite finish and the fact that it has butt over tip ferrules. I don’t trust those on any rods - even more so with a medium heavy surf rod. The 11’ rod handled throwing a 6oz sinker and big chunk of whiting without a problem. My Penn Pursuit 8000 barely fit under the reel seat hoods. I’m not an experienced surf caster when using heavy rigs but I’ve managed over 100yds a few times. I did swap the chunk bait for a live whiting last night. Casting distance suffered with the extra weight and my inexperience. I have no doubt this rod will handle a small shark or large ray - hoping to post a photo reflecting that soon. Cheers! Great looking rod - will update after using it. I ordered two of these - 9’ 3pc and 11’ 4pc - last minute for an upcoming trip to the Gulf. The rods showed up fast and not broken - other reviews had me worried about that. I’d prefer a rod tube/case but at this price point I dont expect that. Upon opening the box, my initial impression is that these moon sniper rods are well setup and wrapped - epoxy is level and clear, thread wraps don’t have gaps, etc. I’d prefer one piece braid-proof guides like the Penn pursuit and ugly stick models but again - the price point is probably too low for premium accessories. My biggest worry is the overall durability of matte graphite blank. I grew up fishing Shakespeare alphas and ugly sticks. Those sticks were nearly bombproof. My luck with the new gx2 matte finish (no fiberglass coat over the graphite blank) hasn’t been good - I hope these Moonsnipers can withstand surf conditions, 4oz sinkers and the occasional bull red or stingray. All in all I give these rods 4/5 stars. I’ll update after a few hours spent fishing the surf. Tight lines! ... show more
