  • Great strings!
Style: Light, 45-100 Pattern Name: Strings
Got one set of these for my J-bass to replace an ancient set of Chromes and liked the 9050s so much I bought a second set for my new P-bass that came with rounds. String feel is very smooth and the turquoise wraps look great. Quite bright and metallic-sounding at first but have mellowed in quite nicely on both basses. Lots of midrange on tap and I found these to sound best with a little mid-scoop on the EQ with the P-bass. ... show more

  • Great tone, easy on the fingers!!!!
Style: Light, 45-100 Pattern Name: Strings
I really like the strings on my bass guitar. They have a great tone and they very easy on the fingers with no noise sliding my fingers up and down the frets. That is the reason I bought them because they are easier on your fingers. I tune up my bass guitar up before I play, and it will still be in tune when I finish. I playing two bands and they have held up good. I have used other brands, but after getting these strings, I will not go back to the other brands. I will buy them again! ... show more

  • Better than other at the price
Style: Light, 45-100 Pattern Name: Strings
These have a smooth feel and even output across the strings. While these are not laBella, Pyramid or Optima, they hold their own well and compared to Pyramid, they have more even output. They are stiffer than the others (including Rotosound Monel flats), so that may be a turnoff for some people. I've used these for decades and they've always been consistent and they sound great. Since they are stiffer and higher tension, I use them with the neck shimmed a little and with no relief/low-action. If you set them up that way, they will settle in a few days to a very nice playing set with a great feel. How do they compare to Chromes you ask? Chromes have a similar feel, but with slightly less tension (a good thing), but they have a strange sound...or at least, they do not sound like traditional flatwounds. The Fenders do. ... show more

  • NOT really for a Fender Mustang despite reviews
Style: Light, 45-100 Pattern Name: Strings
I read another review where a customer bought this long scale set to put on his Fender Mustang bass with a string-thru-body design, just like mine. At such an attractive price, I couldn't help but try a set out. While I managed to get the strings around the tuner posts, the E string wrapped around it like a fat python. I know I could have cut it shorter, but I would also run the risk of slippage. The A string fit better with the aid of a mini screwdriver holding the string up as it tightened around the post. The problem with the Mustang Performer is that most short scale flatwounds are just too short. Right now, these new strings sound fine, but I prefer my bass strings to fit as they were designed to. Maybe mid-length next time, but I'm hoping these strings last me a long, long time. ... show more

  • Wow. I love the tone.
Style: Light, 45-100 Pattern Name: Strings
I have a vintage 1966 fender P.Jazz. very few left alive. It is such a smooth bass and sounds perfect. However, because it's so smooth and soft to the touch, I've always preferred flat wound strings. Round wound on y other bad for a slappy sound -- just fine. But for this Fender work of art and the perfect intonation, i love this Fender string. Wow. So beautiful. So soft and subtle, it's also so vibrant and pitch perfect. I love these strings and most of my fans agree. So easy to touch but smash that perfect sound. You won't be disappointed. No sting slide sounds like a round wound, yet very active and vibrant sound. ... show more

  • Good value and tone
Style: Light, 45-100 Pattern Name: Strings
I bought this set of flatwounds after putting another set of Fender flats on a P bass and being happy with them. I took a chance and got these to put on a 32" scale Dan Armstrong plexi bass copy after not seeing an affordable medium scale set. The long scale set fit my bass even though the E didn't taper soon enough which I expected. My only complaint is that this set had some damage to the A string near the bridge that's hard to photograph. I didn't know these strings had a clear coating, it appears the damage to my A string is only in the coating which makes it feel rough and gummy if I pluck or pick near the bridge. The damage doesn't affect the sound though. After looking some more I finally found a set of medium scale flats priced similarly which I might replace these with and keep the fenders as a backup. ... show more
