I make small batches of homebrew wine and this small auto siphon is the best investment any one can make. I was using a large siphon for 5 gals and would make such a mess in the small fermenter, If you don`t have one of these you need one.

Works almost as expected. The vinyl tube comes folded, so it has kinks that cause restrictions along the tubing. It still works fine for its purpose. For small batches (1-gallon), the kinks may actually make it a little easier to work with, so it's not siphoning TOO fast. The tubing is a super tight fit onto the tip of the siphon cane, but it will eventually be able to pushed on. Sometimes, it pushes on relatively easily; other times, I have to fight with it a bit.

Shameful that they rate this store as Prime. It isn't. It took them days to even ship and then via a butt slow carrier that cannot even make their 5 day delivery. No tracking number either so no idea if or when it will show up. Only says carrier picked it up. AVOID THIS STORE if you want product to arrive timely! I have the tall version of this siphon which works well, but currently using 1 gallon carboys for meads and the tall version is just too ungainly for small jugs. I picked this one because it shows it has the clip to hold the pump secure in the jug while I press the filler down for flow while pumping to get it started. Bad mistake to have picked this source. Regrets.

I carefully avoided the siphons labeled "mini" as I needed it to transfer from regular-sized carboys. At under half the size of a standard auto siphon, it won't do that job. If you are fermenting in growlers, it would work perfectly. I needed it quick as I realized the filter I bought was 3/8 vs the 1/2 inch siphon hose I use with my regular-sized auto-siphon and I needed to rack the beer the next day. The hose is 3/8" OD not ID as is typically expected in beer equipment lingo, however that element will give you a tight fit without clamps which is what you want with this type of line. The trick is to just stick the end in a cup of really hot water for a few seconds and then stretch it on. The hot water trick also will work for the "kinks" created by folding the hose (seriously, just wrap the hose in a circle and add a twist tie...) especially if you have a line brush you can shove down in there and leave sitting. As it turned out, the clip fit my regular auto-siphon which I foolishly failed to purchase when I bought it and that would have cost me probably the same thing with shipping. I tried the fit in even my half gallon growlers and it worked fine, so again, if you are dealing with small batch, this is a great tool. The best part is while I contemplated just throwing away the auto-siphon part it hit me - this would be PERFECT to rack the spent beer off a yeast starter without the loss of cells you get when you try to pour it off. So it went right in my starter kit and I'll look forward to an easier way of removing unwanted product after a cold crash. It turned out to be a piece of equipment I didn't know I needed.
