  • Solid product
I purchased this product at the beginning of the cold season and wanted to wait to give it a review. I almost did not purchase this product because of all the bad reviews people gave it. There was one review that appeared very honest so I gave it a shot. We have had the coldest winter in recordable history and this heated fountain did great. Some of the reviews mentioned how the cheap plastic cracked and the hanger broke. I did not have any problems at all. the product held up great. People also complained about the design and how hard it is to fill it with water. These people obviously are use to metal waters. I use a non heated plastic fountain very similar to this and am use its design. The heater worked and never quit. it even worked at -19 degrees F. My only complaint about this product is its size. I only have three hens and do not need a 3 gallon fountain. There are not a lot of options on the market when it comes to heated fountains. I wish there were 1 and 2 gal sizes available. I would recommend this to anyone. ... show more

  • Highly Recommend
Excellent product, highly recommend. I initially ordered this and received one that didnt work. This happens - some products are just duds. But I got in touch with customer service and they immediately sent me a replacement. I wanted to use it for awhile before leaving a review, and I can say without any doubt that this is one of the best heated waterers you can get for your flock. We've reached 20 degrees F here already and have been below freezing for days, and it's working exceptionally well. Keep in mind it only kicks on when it reaches a certain temperature, so the water doesn't stay "warm", it prevents freezing. 5 stars for the actual product. 5 stars for the company that didnt hesitate to take care of their customer. Absolutely recommend. Its worth the money, just get it. ... show more

  • Save your money!
I have had chickens for 4 years now. after the first winter of the 3 times a day water run because of freezing temps. I dropped the money on a heated one. I was so stupidly happy on my saved trips, that I over looked these reviews, and all the signs I saw! I excused the first one breaking, I was walking it to the house on a cold day to fill it up and my dog ran into me and it went flying and when it landed the white plastic a chunk was broke out of the side and it was done. Base still works but can't get a replacement top. So I had to get another one. I wasn't happy that it broke but I wasn't sure how far it had fell when I landed on the ground so I blamed my dog. But still miffed I made closer observation on the second one that lasted all of 8 months. 1. The twist latching isn't that great because if you bump the cord or bottom it will send a 3 gallon surge of water through the coop on a freezing day or one of my favorites walking through the yard to have the bottom fall off and fill up your boot on a cold winters day. 2. Cord holder broke off of both that I have owned within days 3. The fill hole on the bottom: in the summer months it is nice but in the winter time you have a choice to have your finger frozen off by the rubber stopper fill or the twist off the bottom that is hard to line up when you have it full and the white plastic flexes to not match the bottom. Either way be sure to remember your armpits can save your fingers from falling off. 4. Filling on the bottom causes you to loose water you have to flip it back over and you dump water in the process 5. The handle it weak! I couldn't imagine hanging this product it the handles and top plastic it to weak! 6. The white plastic the top is starts to crack and show pressure fractures from just filling I couldn't imagine how long it would last if it was hung. My second one broke while carrying it to the house and my dog bumped it while running by. IT SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO THAT IF IT CAN HANG WITH CHICKENS!! I am totally not giving this one a third try I am outta money on that project!! ... show more

  • Does it’s job, but not the best
I’m a few weeks into using this waterer, and here are my thoughts so far: Pros: - Does a good job of keeping water thawed (we’ve had some nights in the single digits). I think it keeps my coop slightly warmer, too. - Easy to use. Plug it in, and away it goes - Stays clean. I set it on a cinder block, but it doesn’t seem to get as full of bedding and debris as some of my other waterers. - Not super expensive Cons: - Not very big. I have 14 layer hens now living inside 24/7, and I have to refill almost everyday - Refilling is awkward. I don’t think the rubber plug is that much of a perk, since you have to turn the unit upside down regardless. And you are guaranteed to to spill some water on the ground or on yourself when you turn it back over (unless there’s a trick I don’t know). - The bottom doesn’t snap firmly into place, so if you are carrying it by the handle (for example, from the house to the chicken coop), the bottom may come loose and fall off. Twice. Making your feet and your chicken coop very wet. Overall it does its job, but I wish I’d sprung for a different one that holds a little more water and can be filled from the top. ... show more

  • Keep your chicken water from freezing
Works perfectly to keep the water from freezing in winter. If you hang it from a chain, the water will stay cleaner for much longer than if you put it on the ground or a block. The waterer fills from the bottom, and while a little heavy when totally full, it does not leak once in place. Dead simple to use. I've had it for 2 winters now, and it's still working great. ... show more
