I must say, Im really impressed with these pencils. I was hesitant after watching and reading reviews and Im glad I took a chance. I followed a bubble drawing tutorial on Youtube and by far these were the best to use on black paper (although my other brands are brilliant, I found these were more opague and stood out more). That said, I found them to be just as vibrant and bright on white, grey and natural (canson graduate) paper too. They layer very well, but keep in mind, most black papers are smooth and can limit layering. If you are looking for extreme vibrancy, ensure to use a smooth paper that has a slight tooth. I also found using white artist spirits over the colour, allowing it to dry, does allow you to come in with more layers on a smooth paper. These are extremely soft and I did find I had used quite alot of the pencil after this picture. They blend extremely well with mediums like white artist spirits and baby oil. In terms of sharpening, I used a standard Weibo barrel sharpener and an electric sharpener and obtained a very very sharp point, no breakages. However, keep in mind with a soft core, pressing hard on the paper with the sharp point does at times lead to the tip snapping, but its no big deal. They also work well with Lyra polycolour. I was so impressed with this paper that I will be looking at getting the 100 set and already purchased the pastel and neon set (local store here in SA) This pencil will be great for beginner artists as well as more experienced artists. ... show more

    • If you have a disability or pain in your hands, invest in an electric sharpener

The triangle shape makes it very hard to manually sharpen the first few times. I enjoy how they are smooth and vibrant, but I think FC stuck out with the triangle design. They do not feel good in your fingers and hurt when trying to sharpen. So it's a love/hate thing with me on them.

My son loves to draw and never really has wanted to color in what he creates. I hinted at having art supplies and he wasn't too sure. I bought them for his birthday and he uses them often! Beautiful color, good quality, good-sized pencils, a decent amount for a starter set.

These pencils are from the top quality pencil maker. I saw this set and gave it a try. Neon pastel colors. Very nice sharp hard core. Goes on smoothly and very beautiful colors. They kinda glow. I love them and use them every day. No breakage. Cannot find anything negative to say about these.

I have bough other known professional brands with soft core but never purchased this brand before and let me tell you it’s amazing! I’m not a professional artist, I mainly color adult coloring books but this set got me even more curious on getting the professional version of their pencils because of how good these ones are, any professional pencil would be jealous of these ones. You barely need to press on the pencil to make a stronger stroke, the colors are so beautiful and vibrant, the color variation is just perfect! I’m in love with these coloring pencils, so much that I’m hiding them from my little artist kid because I would lose them lol ... show more

So, I know these are not the top tier Fabre-Castell pencils. But I still have some expectations due to the brand name. I bought them primarily because they are marketed as soft-core. They are not anymore soft than a set of no-name neon pencils I had laying around. And they’re a bit less pigmented. As for the pastel colors, these pale in comparison to the set I have of Ooly pastel pencils. Which is okay, those cost more. But I highly recommend you spend the extra dollars - you get more pencils and a lot more pigment. If it wasn’t more trouble than it’s worth, I would return them. I’ll probably donate them to my local school instead. ... show more
