  • Worked well once installed properly.
Didn't work at first....came with no instructions....but I found an ez go video on you tube....put in tow position....disconnect negative to batts....install chip....reconnect neg.....flip to run. Also you can check by toggling from reverse to neutral 5 times.....then you'll hear a series of beeps. 4 beeps confirms the freedom (speed) setting. BUT it only beeped for me the first time after install. When I tried it again it didn't beep. So yeah....it's legit. Cart is definitely quicker. Edit: I checked my speed with gps....got up to 18.5 mph on my uneven dirt driveway....i'm positive it'll go 20+ on a flat surface. This thing is quick! ... show more

  • Depending on the load in the cart, with driver only it picked up about 3 to 4 mph.
Hardest part was taking the cover off of the control unit!

  • Misleading
This does not fit my 2001 EZGO golf cart as advertised.

  • I’d recommend it for sure!
Worked well for my cart. Wasn’t sure the exact year of my EZGO TXT but if you read the description and read testimonials it should work for your Cart! Good top speed upgrade you may lose a bit of low end but defiantly worth the small investment!!

  • Does it.
I put this in my 10-year old EZGO... took 10-minutes. Simple, just plug it in. It does make a difference in upper limits of speed, and more than I thought. Amazingly, my cart went from 14 mph before, and a whopping 19.2 mph after this was installed. That is a 37% increase! Another plus is that I have not found any reduced range per charge. Just more fresh air in my face. ... show more

  • Lots of misinformation
First this is not a chip it is a jumper plug two wires that jumper inputs to the controller. Second works on 48V carts. Basically if you have the plug on your wiring harness this plugs in and tells it to do something different. There are 4 options, no plug and three different plugs that give you different speed and regen braking actions. So if you have a Curtis 1264 SepEx controller with the 5 pin plug hanging from harness connected to the J1 plug on the controller with 5 pins this works. Seems faster but it only gives you a couple MPH increase at best. ... show more

  • Installation of the freedom chip is easy and requires no tools
So I followed the instructions for installing when I first got it and did not realize any difference in the speed. I went online and found a website that told me how to reprogram the PDS system, hope this helps: Your car needs to have PDS ( Precision Drive System)>> Determine whether your golf cart can use the EZ-Go speed chip by checking the control system. Open the passenger seat and find the computer controller next to the battery pack. If the computer controller has a run-tow switch, it is compatible with the EZ-Go speed chip. Also check that there is a forward/reverse switch on the panel below the steering wheel. The forward/reverse switch should be in the "neutral" position, between "forward" and "reverse." Switch the run-tow toggle to "tow." Remove the environmental cover from the computer controller, and plug the EZ-Go speed chip into the slot in the lower right-hand corner. The speed chip is shaped specifically to fit into this socket and has a pair of red wires sticking out of the top. Fold the red wires out of the way, and replace the environmental cover. Flip the run-tow switch back to the "run" position. Toggle the forward/reverse switch from the "neutral" position to "reverse" five times in quick succession. After a few seconds, the computer controller will beep four times, indicating it has shifted into the freedom mode. Flip the run-tow switch back to "tow" and then "run" to escape the diagnostic setting mode. This enables freedom mode and allows the cart to reach a maximum speed of 19 mph. ... show more
