This is not a cheap investment but it sure has improved the lives of our dogs! We have a puppy (100+ lbs) Great Dane, Mini Dauschund, and Puggle. Instructions for the installation were clear, however there were no directions included for how to wire the surge suppressor. I had to google it and it was easy to find and follow. The install for the wire takes the most time, we used a lawn edger set to the lowest setting and then an edging spade to get the right depth. If you have a piece of plywood or something you can use to force the wire down in the groove, you'll be better off. We went around behind it and backfilled with topsoil to hold the wire in. The pups (all 3) are pretty well behaved but of course all like to run free and will sniff around and get too far from the house, before the fence. Now that its installed, they were trained pretty quickly and all have been contained now for several weeks. NOTE: The Dane is a BIG dog and she runs FAST. She can break through the 10' setting easily if she's running. We originally had her on progressive setting and rubber tips for training. We moved up to the smaller metal probes and highest collar setting, still we found her getting excited and running through it. Finally we used the longer metal probes and tightened the collar for good contact. She hasn't been out since. We could increase the distance from the wire but they'd lose a good part of our yard (due to lots of curves) so we're trying to keep it on the 10' setting. Overall, so far a well designed product. Good directions (minus the missing surge suppressor directions). We will see how it lasts, we used the large gauge wire to hopefully prevent future breaks and issues. ... show more

    • Dogs don’t torcher the neighbors any more.
Excellent product. Works perfectly. Would not recommend using the 18 gauge wire for over a couple of acres. I was setting up a perimeter around 3.5 acres, used the provided wire and the resistance was to great over the distance. The collar would not send a warning beep until the dogs were right on top of the perimeter. I am a licensed electrician and have a ton of wire laying around so I upgraded to number 12. Works absolutely perfect. Larger wire greatly decreased the resistance. I have had the system installed for about a year. Went through the training program recommended by the book and all three of my LARGE mutts totally respect their perimeter. 2 out of 3 won’t leave either their colors off. Not even when being called or on a leash. Have to put them in the truck and drive them across to go on walks. The customer service is some of the best I’ve dealt with. All in all a great product just a little tough to install and the wire provided is not big enough for large distances. ... show more

I have 3 dogs and thought this product would be great for what we needed which it was until our beagle ruined the first collar within the first two months. Now we have no working collars because they have all cracked and allowed water to enter the collar and now we have three dogs that run off and it’s hunting season so that is never a good thing. So now do I spend $450 for 3 new collars and suck up the fact that I’ll now have a thousand dollars in the initial purchase and new collars or take the lose of paying over five hundred for a system that I can no longer use and buy a new one!?!? ... show more

Purchased and installed not quite a year ago. It was time consuming but worth it. The system works like a charm with my three dogs. Over the winter we noticed some of failure of the collars. Turns out the cases were cracking. Called the company and a live person answered who was very helpful. Said I was most definitely using the wrong batteries, my fault. They are sending me three new collars free of charge! They're paying shipping to me and to have the broken collars shipped back. There is a company that stands by its product even when the consumer screwed up! ... show more

Well, I spent months researching fences and it came between this and the sport dog brand. I did this one because we have an 80 lbs Golden, 40 lbs blue healer, and a 7 lb morkie... This color works on all of them! The wire included is great although I wish it had more waterproof connectors. I also didn't like the fact that the twisted neutral wire is a smaller size. Another thing that isn't my favorite is the look of the control panel. One thing that needs to change is the serge protector... That thing is junk! Everything requires the wires to be screwed in so it doesn't pull out causing the fence to stop working besides the serge protector! One bump and the wires pull out. But, the fence as a whole is great! You can adjust everything from the warning zone to the amount of shock (barely anything for the morkie). Customer service was also very responsive. Just buy a different serge protection! ... show more

We bought our Extreme Dog Fence 10 months ago after moving to a new home in coastal North Carolina. We had a Pet Safe system at our old home. For us there is no comparison between the two. The Extreme Fence G2 controller has been flawless. The collars are much more rugged, powerful and heavy duty. The wire is also a much heavier gauge than the PS system. We also had to buy batteries for the old collars every few months but have only had to replace these once. Going back to the perimeter wire...in this coastal area we can get a lot of rain in a very short period of time. Hence, we can have puddles all over the yard despite the sandy soil. Because we are waterfront the water table is very shallow. It has had ZERO effect on this system. The only issue we have had was one of the collar transmitters came apart but I contacted the company in the morning and I had a tracking number for a new collar replacement by early afternoon. I could not be more pleased with this product and the company standing behind it. ... show more

I did a lot of research before we purchased our fence. We live on 7.5 acres in the country and it was vital that our dogs not stray. Right out of the box, we were impressed! We rented a trencher from Home Depot and had the wire buried in a few hours. The instructions were easy to follow and we had everything working on the first try! One of our dogs didn't respond to the low intensity of the collar that came with the kit. After a phone call to the company, they had a replacement collar in the mail to us for exchange! The customer service was fantastic! I can not say enough about this system and the company. A month later, our dogs know their boundary and we have peace of mind that they will remain safe on their own property. ... show more
