wow. this was really easy to install. i did it myself around a half acre area, across a lawn, then 3 sides of wooded area and trees. so i had a lot of crawling along and pushing the wheel of wire. the wire that went in the woods and along the fence i did not bury, i just put rocks or stuff over it and put it along the fence. the front lawn the wire went in a line i dug in and then it went across the driveway via a crack we had in the right place LOL i put the box in my shed as its near an outlet and easy to get it in place there. i connected the wires and set up the first collar. i went around and checked the line, it works. its not a painful shock but a tickling shock. sort of like any electric fencing that is low. i took my small dog around and held the collar, let it beep and then shoved her back while showing her the line with flags. then i put the collar on her, let her get close, when it beeped she stopped then tried to get closer to get out of the yard, it buzzed her and she jumped back. since then she has respected the line of flags. the next dog is a big German Shepherd. he likes to jump the side fence to the neighbors side. in the front he will go down and happily greet everyone, even if the dont want a big dogs kisses. so... i took him around with the collar off, showed him the flag, let it beep and shoved him over. we went around doing this and then we put the collar on. when it beeped on him he looked at me, i motioned him to come back and he did. then we went around some more till he wanted to go too close and see what that flag was, zing, he ran right back to me. now, in one day he knows to avoid that flag zone. and if we are playing and his ball goes out of bounds, he will slowly walk over, hear the beep and stop. the beep tells him to come back away from that flag line. he is a smarty pants tho. but i have to say, i was able to do some gardening and not worry he will run into the neighbors yard anymore. he sat pleasantly by me while i worked. if he got too close to the fence and the collar beeped he backed up. this thing is great! this weekend i get to try it on dog #3 when she is over. she is a beagle that likes to just wander off and has no idea what her name is (rescue dog they just got recently) now, this wire is super heavy duty, i like that. we have all forms of wildlife in the back yard, dont want something to gnaw through a wire like they do my camera wires which are that soft feel squirrel like to chew on. i like how you can set how far the range of beep before the zap happens. i can give the dogs a good solid warning they can heed. I like that its waterproof and not just resistant. i like that the battery is not rechargeable. the one dog has a training collar that is never charged. i like the rubber tips to make it comfy on the dog. i like that the company sells other colors of collars to get (I will cut the purple one smaller to fit my small dog) I mostly like that now my dogs are contained even if i open a door and one gets out, my neighbors will never have to put up with my animals again. lets face it, its straining to have to pretend you love someones mutt coming over to your lawn, even if you clean up after them.... good fences make good neighbors and this is the best looking fence ever! i do have to add, my dog is the best behaved GSD ever! and customer service at the company that makes this is wonderful! do register your product right away, it even has Amazon as a place of purchase, its easy to do.

For $2500+ I had Invisible Fence brand installed on two acres in 2005. It included buried on flat ground and above ground through our woods. It was always breaking and it got so expensive to have the techs come out and fix it, that I finally just gave up and my dogs mostly stayed around without it. Fourteen years later, I have two new young dogs and a stubborn old Shih Tzu that think the whole world is theirs, so I was faced with dealing with the fence again. I dreaded the cost of having the fence repaired. More importantly, Invisible Fence collars are over $400 EACH and I needed three. Then I found the EXTREME Dog Fence. I didn't have high hopes for it since I could get 3 collars and replace my two acres of invisible fence for less than $1000. Because I found a trick to find breaks in my fence using an RF coil for $8 from Radio Shack and a hand held AM radio (which worked absolutely BRILLIANTLY by the way - Google it if you need to fix your fence), I cheaped out and just ordered the 3 collars with 500' of wire for $529 in hopes that the coil trick could save some of my already placed Invisible Fencing. When the coil found our first break in the wire, I was SHOCKED at the CHEAP speaker wire with a dozen teeny hair sized copper wires that Invisible Fence charged me a fortune for when I stripped back the coating compared to the EXTREME Fence which is a single, BIG, solid copper ROD by comparison. I bought the 14ga. Though very sturdy, it was still very flexible and easy to work with. My husband was gone for the weekend and I switched out the transmitters, checked and adapted the Invisible Fence surge protector, followed all of the very easy instructions from the EXTREME Fence and in 4 hours, I had everything installed, all of my breaks (5) found and repaired and my two acres was up and running for less than $600. I did order the 10 piece splicer kit as I anticipated finding many breaks and those were awesome too! Before I learned about the RF coil/AM radio trick, I gave up right away when the alarm went off after I switched out the transmitters and fixed the one obvious problem in the fence and ordered 2500 more feet of EXTREME wire to just replace the whole thing. Now I don't have to, but will add the new wire for probably 7 acres of area for my dogs to play in. I am SO happy and impressed. I'll eventually max it out at the 25 acres because I can! :) Now I just have to give my dogs the rules to read about how the collars work and we'll be golden!

I purchased this fence with 3 collars a year ago today, but didn't get it installed until a little over a month later (busy schedules, digging out the trench for wire, etc.). I missed registering the product by 1 day when I opened the box and saw the registration card. Please note: open the box immediately and register your product even if you don't plan to install it right away. The instructions were good and I was able to install the entire system without help or calling in to support. I did buy a trencher to make the job a little easier, but I was also dealing with an acre of different terrain types. One stretch of wire is pinned down over a gravel driveway. In the course of the year I've had 2 problems with the fence. It's important to note that both times, customer service was top notch and quick to respond (1st time by phone, 2nd time by email). The first problem ended up being a frequency issue. The system came with 3 collars, which was just what I needed, but then we took in my son's dog and needed a 4th collar. When I programmed the 4th collar to the fence, I must have inadvertently changed the frequency, which made none of the collars work. It was an easy fix. The second issue was one of the original collars stopped working. After replacing the battery, double-checking the frequency, and verifying the fence itself was working (by testing the other collars), I emailed the company. They immediately offered to replace the collar under warranty. It did cost me $8.95, presumably for shipping. The collars are expensive, though, and I called them exactly a year from the day I ordered the system (even though the collars have only been in use for about 10 1/2 months). The battery life seems good... for trained dogs that don't test the fence too much, I get about 6 months out of the batteries. One of our dogs is very rough and plays with the other dogs by grabbing their collars (which we actively discourage), and none of those collars has yet broken even though the casing is plastic. The collar straps come very long, so they can fit any size dog. For reference, our smallest is a Dorkie (dachshund/yorkie) and our largest is a 100lb. golden retriever. Once it's appropriately sized, just cut off what you don't need. I do keep the collars a little extra long in case I ever need them for a larger dog. We do have one very stubborn dog that absolutely doesn't mind the fence at all. She is trained to know not to cross it, and will pull away from the fence when she is on her leash, but if let off leash, she is a runner, and seems to forget and then not care about the beep or the shock. Even set at the highest correction level, we do not let her off leash. Even with the faulty collar in less than a year, I gave the product 5 stars for their amazing customer service. Hope this helps!

I purchased my pro grade system in 9/2019 and at first was great. Then after about a year the collars started failing. I have mostly smaller dogs under 50lbs and no water or other environments that would cause premature collar failure. Some collars would stop functioning at all others would stop beeping and not giving the dogs warning before shock, just total random failures. At first it wasn’t a big deal as they were replacing them under the 5 year warranty. But then I was told that they no longer replace them for free and said it would be $50-$75 per collar to replace them, under warranty. I will guarantee that you will have to replace your collars yearly so be aware. The fence and transmitter seem to be great, the standard collars are junk though.

First and foremost, this fence works. We are using it to keep three large and very active dogs in a large yard. If you plan on putting it in yourself you are in for lots of work. It might be worth the cost of paying a professional who has the trenching tool needed for installation. Do your homework and learn how the fence works so that you can put together a plan and your layout before you ever purchase anything. Take into account underground utilities as you plan--you will need to contact authorities to survey and mark your yard to avoid causing any damage. Also keep in mind that certain lawn care activities such as aerating, may influence both the layout and depth of your fence. Once you purchase the fence, don't hesitate to call customer service for tips on installation or on how to operate and set the fence and collars. I called twice, and both of the persons who answered my questions were really patient listening to my questions and provided expert advice that was easy to understand. Finally, follow the provided tips for getting your dogs trained to "honor" your new fence. Don't be in a hurry!

After a little bit of training the fence works great for our dogs. (Beagle, Labpit Mix, and a mix hound dog. The beagle caught on the quickest as he had a manual collar that you could manually beep or shock. I was worried about the lab who is 8 but he also does well. He tried the wire one time when loose got shocked and has not tried it since. The mix hound dog had been the most stubborn. Tried the wire several times and has been shocked. He now stays around the front porch area. We never let our dogs out the front until this point. My kids would accidentally let them out and they would be gone for hours. Now they will go out and know the boundaries. We still have the flags up at this point. The install took two days we used a hand edger and did the whole 1 acre yard apporixmatley 3 inches deep. I tried electric edger but it did not go deeper then 1.5 inch and did not want to risk the wire getting destroyed later. We bought the 14 gauge wire and was very pleased with it. Overall the hook up and rolling out the wire was easy. We ran the wire through a window to the outside. Would definitely recommend if your struggling with dogs getting loose. However make sure you take the time to teach them. DO NOT let them loose at first follow the traning guide!

I have 2 collars. I like how you can have multiple collars set at different levels. My dogs trained fast on it and it works great. I haven’t had to go chasing my dogs down because they ran off. This even works on my mini dachshund and my German shepherd. Adjustable collar is great. Easy to use and light weight.
