we got this to replace a junky chinese made and branded unit that broke within a week. this set up is perfect for our two dogs with 1/3 acre perimeter. all the components are very high quality, thoughtfully put together. it was a easy to set up, very accurate perimeter zone, comes with metal not plastic flags which makes staking them super easy. we are in the second week of training the dogs. the other system over shocked our dogs to a point where they were so scared to go anywhere. this system has a no correction tone only mode which makes training much happier for them. they seem content again and willing to roam. instructions are well printed and clear. the other company did not have any contact info on any of their material. Petsafe unit came also with twisted wire, splice kits, metal staples. the one I ordered is 14G wire which is hefty. the other one we got was very very thin and the transmitter was very hard to work with. this one is so much easier and works like its supposed to. very happy with this set up and product and highly recommend anyone considering invisible inground system to avoid all the other ones and just get this to save time, trouble and headache! i got the two dog kit which came with extra rechargeable collar. kit comes with two collar charger that charges both collars at the same time. please see pic. ... show more

I love this fence. I have a Siberian Husky and Huskies like to wander. This has kept my dog safe in my yard and I have no worries about him leaving. Replacement batteries are not expensive and was very easy to train my dog with the instructions provided. We had a single, lovely rescue dog that had no interest in escaping until we rescued another dog who was used to life as a street urchin and decided immediately that he would love nothing more than to rove far and wide in search of adventure. We have three beautiful acres completely fenced, mostly with a horse type fence made from steel well drill pipe and square wire mesh. Quite sturdy, except it is very easy for an enterprising young dog to dig UNDER the mesh and escape from just about anywhere. And they often did, in pursuit of gophers who ran from them through the fence, or just as a way of exploring the larger world. We wanted them to retain the run of the whole property, and we finally resorted to the idea of radio shock collars only when nothing else worked. The last straw was them being found wandering the main road nearby just waiting to get hit by a car, as so often happens here to other wildlife. I looked for something that was made in the USA, or at least owned by a US company, for reasons of support and quality, and this was it. Well worth the extra money. I ordered the above-ground rated wire just to get it going quickly, and I was also afraid of gophers possibly eating through the wire underground in some places. I strung it along the top of the fence, all 1,500 feet of it, and expoxied it in recesses in the formed concrete slabs of the driveways to get past the two driveway gates, and then carried it inwards as an inert twisted pair through some conduit and concrete and through the wall of the garage where the transmitter was to be located and powered. (you must put the transmitter and lightning surge suppressor indoors; they are not outdoor rated, this part will take most of your time if you do it right.) All in all it took about three days to do everything and test it, mostly due to the special bits where it is not just hung on the fence with some bailing wire. The instructions give you a two week training regime which I can only describe as being written for 1950s housewives that have nothing to do all day but keep a close eye on their dogs. It IS fair and equitable for the dogs and you need to do at least a bare minimum of introducing them to the fence first with just the audio warning and pulling them away from it, and then putting the collars on the lowest setting to allow them to experience what I can describe after trying it myself as an annoying tickle, or the feeling of a big insect buzzing around the electrode spot. This was a relief to us as the first setting was in no way painful. We did try the second level once on one collar when one dog was not responsive to level 1, and that's all it took. After that we put it back on level one, and we're happy to say that's all that's ever been needed for either dog. We had only about two to three days to condense the training regime down before we both had to go back to work after a long thanksgiving holiday, and I am pleased to say it worked perfectly. They have not escaped a single time, and even when I walk out the gate to get the mail and they want to follow, they will not get within 10 feet of the fence, ever. Where they used to put their front paws up on the fence menacingly to bark at passers by, they now sit farther back and carry on with it there. I can only describe it as a small miracle, especially given the shorter training period we had with them. Do be aware that you need to remove the collars nightly so as not to develop bed sore type spots on their skin, and we rotate where the collar is clocked on their neck each morning from where it was the day before to prevent any one spot from being continually pressured. After a few months we don't see any issues. If you're not willing to do this daily then please don't buy this or any other shock collar system. We take them off every evening after we let them in, and put them on in the morning after they have had breakfast. A small price to pay for them to have their freedom and us our peace of mind. Since they hardly ever trigger the collars anymore, the batteries seem to be lasting a long time, though I will be ordering some replacements soon. It is likely that even without the collars they will not approach the fence, but one day if we stop using the collars one might accidentally run up to the fence chasing something and then figure out that he might be able to get out again, so we put the collars on them religiously. Now we have two dogs who can occupy themselves on three big acres in a safe manner while we are gone during the day, and then come in and be loved when we get home at night. Just finished installing and using the Max Grade 1000 Ft. system. The system itself is nice, the cable is quality, and it is all made in the USA. I docked one star for the lack of directions in the box (Had to go to the website) and the crappy "power surge protector". Keep reading for my complete review. I purchased the Extreme Dog Fence Max Grade Ultimate, which is just fancy for saying it came with the 14 AWG fence wire with a 60 mil jacket, and 50 feet of 18 AWG twisted wire. All products shown in the picture came without any issues or defects. What the box was lacking was complete instructions on how to use the product. Thank goodness for Youtube in some cases. If you go to the manufacturer's website they have a nice "manual" with tons of info. Would of been great to have that in the box. The few pieces of paper that were in the box had spelling issues to, which I found funny. (That is how you know they are from the USA, too lazy to proof read) The collar I got was "Active" which was perfect. If you are buying, be sure you are getting the system with the correct collar; there are three different types with "Active" being the best for 88% of dogs. The 1000 ft of wire I got was on a spool and of great quality. The jacket (60 mil in my case) was free of any defects and tough. Great manufactured wire overall. The panel is nice and small and the cover is easily removed (no instructions, but easy to figure out). Again, no instructions on how to connect it up, but if you look online or at their silly drawing, you can figure it out. No ground wire, but not needed if you are using their surge protector that comes with the Ultimate system. This brings me to the surge protector, this is one of the biggest reasons I took away a gold star. Compared to the rest of the product, it is a joke. They could of spent a few more pennies to put much better wire connectors on this thing. Wires fall out if anyone breaths on them, including any gravity so be sure to use wire ties and other stuff to remove ALL pressure or you will find some of your wires out. I mean, these things are worse than bad, they want to come out rather than to stay in. The size of this unit is also way to big for its own good. Anyway, it is what it is. The collar is.. well a collar with an electronic shocker thingy. It is "OK" not great, not bad. It takes a 6v Lithium Ion battery that is not rechargeable. They were sure to include documentation about how they make special ones for it, so do not try to buy another brand, rather buy theirs so they can jack the price up. Again, it is what it is, just know this. They do not tell you which direction to install it in the collar (collar is not marked), but if you follow "normal" battery methods, the negative goes in first with the positive on the cap side. The battery comes in the box, not preinstalled. No directions on how to install, but hey, at least it isn't hard to figure out. It works or it does not. (Flat head screwdriver, undo the port, install battery negative side first). After you get everything hooked up, you will find they lose the other half of the gold star for again, no instructions on how to program the collar. The good part of his system is that you can program an unlimited amount of collars all with different settings for different pets. If the battery dies, I am not sure if it retains this info, because mine hasn't died yet, so I can not weigh in on that. To program a collar, you must have the collar in hand and be next to the panel, hold both buttons for ~4 seconds to get in collor program mode, choose your level (depending on your collar type, again mine is active, the levels mean something different), then hit set with the collar right next to the panel to set it. Know that your collar most likely ships with it on the highest shock level.. strange. I would of thought it would come on beep only, but who knows... Lastly, install time. I see other posts saying it takes half a day. I will say it greatly depends on how long your run is, the terrain you are going across, and just how good of job you want to do. It took me 3 days, 7 hours a day. I chose to burry ~750 feet with a shovel (going through mostly woods, so could not use a machine). I knocked a hole in my foundation to get the twisted wire to my basement where I installed the panel and power. It would of been a lot quicker though if I had just thrown the cable on the ground and came out my kitchen window, then again, I am OCD and things need to be right or not at all. You know what is best for you. This was hard work, and I am glad it is over, but it works very well. Would I recommend this to a friend? Yes, but I would like to see the manufacture correct their spelling errors on the few papers they give you and include the real manual rather than making people go online for it. At the VERY least, include a paper that says, go online here 'URL' to see the manual. Lastly, spend a few more pennies to give us a surge protector with real wire connectors... please. (Directed at the supplier, not the consumer). ... show more
