This is a solid gate! I needed something to keep some of my cats separated (due to being FeLV+), but I wanted them to be able to see each other and not feel isolated. This works the same way as a normal baby gate, where it stays in place by pressure put on the wall. It's tall enough that my cats haven't even tried to jump over it. It is fairly heavy and very difficult to open with one hand, but this was expected and clearly stated that it was meant to be opened with both hands. It did take me a few tries to get used to opening it easily, but I got there and now I love it! It properly stays open when opened at 90 degrees and closes on its own when opened less than that (if it doesn't, it's likely that it was tightened too much against the wall and you simply need to loosen it a bit). As a note, I added some thin plastic (and attached with duct tape lol) so that my cats couldn't reach through and hurt each other, so the ugly plastic and black tape toward the bottom of the gate does not come with it lol. Just be sure you measure properly before buying and read the directions! Assembly is pretty straightforward, but make sure you follow directions for if you have an additional rod or not as they differ slightly. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase. It took longer than expected to ship (a couple weeks), but it was worth the wait. EDIT: the sliding button on top was a bit difficult for me to push open, so I eventually duct taped it so that I only had to lift the gate up and push to open it. Much easier for me to manage in my case.

So we now have two cats. Last year they were a menace with our tree to the point we resorted to disassembling it and moving it out of the living room and into a room with a door. This dampened our holiday cheer as it was a little used room and quite small with the tree added and it really damped our enthusiasm. Cue this year. We didn't have the funds to go through the expense of having a door to the room we typically put the tree in installed with the features we wanted. It's a strange wide doorway that enters at an angle so a typical door won't work and it would also need a doorjamb installed. After a lot of research, I found this baby gate. Hopeful but skeptical we plunked down the not inconsiderable price and waited for it to arrive. Well...this thing is a friggin beast! We got the 61 inch height in hopes it would be too tall for the cats to jump. It arrived and we installed it. This was a bear to install. First off, the "don't remove before installing" zip tie had snapped in the box and it was a b---h to wrestle closed enough to install our own temporary zip tie so we could do the install. One side of the support is installed at a slight V away from the door to cause the pressure so we had to squeeze these very heavy, very sturdy metal bars together and zip tie them so we could install. Installation actually wasn't too hard, but if you order the big gate like we did, it's a 2-person job for sure. As we plan to use this every year now, we will be installing a replacement zip tie BEFORE removing the door to prep for next year. I am happy to report that this year our tree has been cat free. It's been two weeks and they have not found a way over the gate and the bars are too close for them to squeeze through. We pulled out all the decorating stops for the room and they are MAD they can't get in to eat them. The tall door is somewhat difficult to get open. It's for sure a two-handed job and you have to lift. As it is heavy and an inch taller than me, I find it more difficult to open than the taller men of the house, but it's doable. It does have an auto-close feature up to a certain angle, past that point it will stay open, which is nice. Overall, I very much recommend it. Just know it's heavy and be prepared to have help installing it. Oh, and watch out for the bar at the bottom, we've all kicked it multiple times walking in the room and so far the gate is holding firm.

Wanted this to be our solution. Unfortunately after we set it up we watched 2 of our cats completely “air” the gate meaning they backed themselves up preparing to launch - launched and jumped over it without even touching it. It’s 5ft tall. Cats can JUMP! Works great for dogs LOL

I bought this gate to keep my cat out of the bedroom - it is the only cat-free space for my cat-allergic partner in the apartment so we needed to ensure my cat couldn’t make it inside the bedroom while allowing him to visually see us for his comfort. My cat is 5 years old and in great shape, and he hasn’t tried to jump the gate (I believe I got the 61/63 inch height) which is awesome! Set up was a bit complicated because of the zip tie but that was definitely me not paying close enough attention. The gate itself is very sturdy and easy to open and keep open, and it self-shuts if you don’t open it to the full 90 degrees which is convenient. I am very happy with this purchase

This product is great! Sturdy build because it ships with the correct sized spacer to fit the doorway I have, not a bunch of separate spacers that have to be stacked! I also needed a gate tall enough that my dogs couldn't jump it, and this fit my needs perfectly. The manufacturer also supplied a small wedge-shaped ramp that fits at the bottom of the gate to keep me from tripping over it, I thought that was a nice touch. Quick and easy to install. No complaints!

I have a dog that can jump over a gate and climb most fencing. She has bent the screws to the last gate by charging through it. The day I put this up, I was amazed at the solidness. I have it in a door jam where it cannot be pushed out with rods over it, so there is no climbing out. It is amazing! I actually went back to this store to buy the extension so I will be able to move it into the hallway. Very happy with this purchase.
