The chair mat comes tightly rolled and takes about a day to flatten out in a 72 degree room. I placed books on the mat to help flatten the surface. I needed a thick mat to line the bottom shelf of a pantry. The surface is painted so the mat will protect the paint but allow for heavy appliances, like an insta-pot and bread machine, to slide in and out. The surface is lightly textured, almost smooth, for easy washing and has no toxic odor. I was able to cut the mat with heavy duty scissors. Don’t waste your money. This thing is a nightmare to put down. The spikes are sharp and it takes two adults to unroll it and place heavy objects to try and flatten out. But the biggest problem is just a Lazy Boy desk chair with nobody in it was enough to leave permanent dents in the mat!! Then when my 85lb 12 year old son sat in the chair for 20 minutes he couldn’t even move the chair because it sunk in too far. This is on very low pile carpet. The ad states this is “FOR CARPET” ?? This is not a "hard" chair mat... in fact, it comes rolled up. But it is inexpensive and suits the purpose of having something temporary in my bedroom while I'm working on my laptop, as opposed to my office where I have a hard chair mat. I have carpet with thick padding so my chair wheels sink into the mat and carpet a bit but this is only a temporary setup so I didn't want to have two hard chair mats to handle when I retire. This would work quite well on a hard surface, so I will pass it on to someone else when done. ... show more

Works great for protecting my hardwood floor from some underbed drawers. The casters on the drawer were marking up the 100+ yo hardwood floors which can't be resurfaced much more. These also are sticking out from under the bed about a foot and they're barely noticeable because of how clear they are and they're soft enough not to cut your feet like an acrylic type mat might. Only major negative is the smell. After several weeks they still smell bad. I'm hoping it will fade soon. Also because they're rolled up, it's hard to get them totally flat. In fact the only reason they're at all noticable sticking out of the bed is because of the ripples. I've been thinking about gently trying a heat gun to soften the material a bit and then put something flat and heavy on it. But these are minor complaints since they're somewhat expected of this kind of material. ... show more

This is nice. It is durable, easy to clean, stays clear even after washing. I use it as a drop for my bird cage and it works very well. The cage rolls on it very easily to move it for cleaning. Just don't expect to use it right out of the box as soon as it arrives. Wish I had read the description more carefully before I ordered. When I saw that the mat came rolled up in a box, I didn’t even remove it from the container and immediately decided to return it. Purchased two of these for under my craft table and it’s great! No more paint on the carpet having to shampoo! Good and sturdy construction. Have to leave out in the sun for a few hours to allow material to soften up to unroll but no issue at all.
