I have a few dozen DVDs that I cannot find in streaming services, and hundreds of CDs. Despite also having streaming services, I sometimes like to listen to something from my collection while I'm working, but my laptop does not have a built in player. This is an inexpensive solution that works well for that purpose. The only thing is that this will not play DVDs through Windows Media Player if you are using Windows 10 OS as I am. I had to download the free app, VLC Media Player and then it worked fine. CDs play with Windows Media - not set up required.

The case on this product had problems early on. Specifically, the face plate which carries the company's brand name was slightly too large and at times would cause the drive to open up. Since it was something that I used infrequently, I just put up with it. It was an inexpensive product, so I did not really care at first. Now, the device continues to fail to recognize disks and I have to regularly eject and reinsert the disk in order to make it work. I decided to just give up on it and reinstalled the internal DVD writer on my laptop. I didn't have time in my work schedule to drive to a Khols, or Whole Foods or wherever to make a "free" return, so I will chalk it up to life's tuition and take my business elsewhere.

Haven't tested the write speeds or burned any DVD's with it yet, but I did hook it up to my laptop and it read DVD's right away with plug and play and watched a few already via my VLC media player on my laptop. Excellent quality, so far, and I'm very pleased! Good price!
