The brightness is fine if you’re across the room, but I did some “tests”, where I held the lantern to find some things in the dark and it was so bright out of the corner of my eyes that I felt my retinas were getting seared! It was like looking directly into a flashlight…strained my eyes not even after 30 seconds. Unfortunately there was no brightness setting (seriously, I would have definitely paid at least another dollar for a brightness setting!), and returns for such a cheap thing was too much a hassle so I “modified” the brightness. If you want to dim it just unscrew the base from the battery compartment and cover the LEDs with a permanent-marker. I dimmed it by 33% and it’s muuuuch more useable now close up. Lantern on the right is modified, left one is original. Would have been 5-stars otherwise, but oh well sometimes you gotta think outside the box… ... show more
