  • Better than the more expensive ones!
Color: 7X50

  • Effective for in-the-field observations
Color: 7X50
I am a protected species observer and spend much of my time outside in the marine environment. After my first pair of binocular broke, I found myself in need of a new pair. This one ticks all the boxes for what I am looking for. Not overly heavy or cumbersome. They are 8 reticles. Oculars are reasonable, and focus is good. If you want a decent pair of binoculars that can hold up to the marine environment that don't cost and arm and a leg, I would recommend this pair. ... show more

  • Good but heavy.
Color: 7X50
Clear view. Supposedly floating, hope so, not tested. Purchased for use on a boat. Additional features to estimate the distance just interferes with view. Nice to have compass.

  • Buy these.
Color: 7X50
We'll start with the cons first: - You have to know either the height of the object you're looking at or the distance to it to find out the other. It's not a point-and-shoot rangefinder, if that's what you want. - They're a little chunky. Size is biggish, weight is a little on the high end for backpacking. That said, the pros: - These are spectacular binoculars. Easily read a street sign at a hundred yards like it was 20 feet away. Could probably double that range comfortably. Can pick out details of a car well enough to tell what make and model it is (if you can do so by sight normally, without reading the badging) at a full mile. - Have not tested the waterproofing yet, but the way they're put together, I don't doubt they are in the slightest. - While the rangefinder is kinda crap, the compass is insanely handy and is designed to minimize unnecessary battery usage. - Easy to focus. - Despite their weight when you're holding them, they seem almost weightless in their carrying case. Go figure. But the biggest pro is that their customer service is spectacular. Mine arrived with a very minor issue, and it was immediately taken care of, above and beyond my expectations. These are perfect for birding, camping, stargazing, or hiking. Their weight is offset easily by their usefulness in orienting yourself to a distant target using the internal compass, and being able to choose a path well in advance. 10/10, would absolutely buy again. ... show more

  • Bought Steiner Bincoulars for triple the price too.
Color: 7X50
I have both, the ESSL product and Steinier Navigator Pro (German Mfg’er). I figured some on else on the boat might like to take a look too. So some thoughts: Cost: ESSL ~$125,vs. Steiner ~$400 Performance: The ESSL performs >80% as well (arbitrary assesment not based on science) Some thoughts: The difference is in the little finish details, as you would expect the German product represents extreme quality, fit finish, every detail is pure BMW like. The ESSL image clarity is very good approaching that of the Steiner, light gathering of the Steiner is superior (viewing at dusk or night I grab the Steiner). Both are waterproof and float so they say. I do not plan to “test” this but am hoping if we drop them off the boat, they can be recovered., I can ... show more

  • Not so waterproof. (UPDATED replacement pair received)
Color: 7X50
UPDATE: customer support was amazing. They shipped a replacement pair immediately. Although I have yet to leave them in the rain or throw them in the pool, I will be trying that next. More updates to come. ORIGINAL: After our first night sail, we hit a squall. This picture (left eye vs right eye) is my binocular's view the next day, after being around me neck in a train storm. I submitted a request to warranty via Amazon. We will see how it goes. 2 year warranty. Hope it gets resolved quickly. Dunk your pair in the pool, to ensure it works before you need them. ... show more

  • great binocs
Color: 7X50
Read the website, these are NOT night vision but they are a great pair of binocs as long as you have some kind of light. Easy adjustment for each eye. They may be a tad heavy for a lightweight but they come with a nice padded adjustable neck strap. The instructions say they come with batteries installed but they do not. I was ready to call Amazon when I found the new batteries and the ocular cleaning lens cloth hidden in an inner pouch in the carrying case. No instructions were included on how to install the strap so I included a couple of pictures of how I did it. The compass is dead-on accurate but the distance and height scale needs calculations to work correctly. Overall a good purchase. ... show more
