  • Not bad for the price
The media could not be loaded. I'll start by saying I'm a novice to espresso, so it's hard for me to say how this compares to more expensive machines or "professional" barista espresso. However, this machine seems relatively inexpensive for an espresso machine and does a decent job as far as I can tell. I think it's a great option for someone just starting out, and is probably best served for 1-2 people who want something compact and easy (relatively) to use. The machine itself is nice...nothing too special, but feels well made considering the cost...more like a fancy Keurig but perhaps a bit nicer. The portafilter and the scoop/tamper do feel like the cheapest parts of this set so if you're going to upgrade anything I'd recommend the tamper at least. The first couple of times I tried it, I always noticed the grounds looked very "wet" regardless of how I ground the beans. I tried both electric grinders and a nice hand grinder at various settings and didn't notice much difference. I've learned that wet grounds don't necessarily mean it's a "bad" machine...but again, I'm a novice here so don't know how significant that is at this price range. Still, the espresso I was getting out of it tasted good to me. There are a few settings you can change...I tried turning the heat to the highest setting, but the overall range doesn't seem too large. The machine also tends to beep a lot...when it's heating, when it's ready, when it needs to re-heat...so that's annoying. I wish you could turn off the sound as the lights indicate the status as well. After my initial tests, I decided to pick up some accessories to see if I could improve my results, and I will say it's been fun learning. I picked up a funnel and puck screen combo, along with one of the little "whisk" gadgets and a 51mm coffee distributor & tamper set. The ones I got were also Vine items, and I've been impressed with those...but they cost nearly half of what this machine costs...not that you have to get expensive ones, but I think they've made the experience more enjoyable and consistent. I really like the funnel and puck screen as it helps get grounds in without spilling and the screen helps to keep the underside where the water comes out clean. The frother appears to work OK too...again, I don't really know what I'm doing with the milk. I think with practice it will again be fine for a machine at this price range. The machine does tend to need to "cool down" when using the steam wand so I think it works better to make the shots first, then do the milk/steam. I have noticed though, that if you don't have the steam setting engaged and release some water from the steam wand it helps get the machine "ready" for brewing faster. ... show more

  • Impressed for the price point and it not being from a coffee exclusive brand
I had a lot of doubts that this espresso machine would be good. The price was pretty low (relatively) and the brand is not known for coffee products. Regardless, I gave the machine a try, and I am glad I did. For context about me, I was never a barista, and I have only used 2 espresso machines prior to this that were difficult to work with. So this is my non-coffee snob review - I am just someone who likes saving money by making drinks at home! Build: The quality of the machine itself was surprising. A majority of it is metal, save the clear water tank in the back. I washed all the detachable parts and they didn't develop water spots, so that is also a good sign. Parts: Comes with two different size inserts for a single shot and a double shot of espresso. These are also metal. Steam wand is partially detachable for cleaning. Has a detachable spill tray. Operation: So simple to use. Wait for machine to warm up, hit button, make espresso. Hit steam button, wait for beep, turn knob and make steam. It is a piece of cake. The instructions are also pretty good. Not as good as a company who only makes coffee machines, but good enough to understand how to operate the machine with little left to the imagination. You can program settings for your water hardness and temperature to make the coffee, but these aren't really required. Espresso: Good and strong. I had a family member taste it because he had just came back from Italy where he had an espresso nearly every day. He said the flavor was rich and "quite lovely" so I feel that speaks to the quality of the shot pulled. Also, an impressive amount of crema (golden foam on the top of the shot) was abundant, which is a good thing and reflective of the machine in the coffee world. Milk: Heats up FAST. The steam wand is not joking around. I haven't quite mastered this yet - I keep accidently overflowing my steaming container with foam. Overall, great espresso machine for the price point and quality. I am impressed and will continue to use it for my morning latte! ... show more

  • Decent Espresso and Upgradable
This machine is very similar to a Delonghi Dedica, a machine with a dedicated group of modders on YouTube. I decided to take a chance on this machine and it's so similar that I'm really excited for all the upgrades. It uses 51mm accessories. I picked up a new tamper, puck screen, and a dosing ring to round out the basic kit. Out of the box it makes a pretty decent espresso- make sure you run a lot of water through the group head and steam wand before use. The tank holds a decent amount of water. My wife and I have been able to make 4 or 5 cups of espresso and heat the group head without a refill. I tend to top it up every other morning. More often on WFH and weekends. I use between 15 and 18g of finely ground coffee. It's as fine as my grinder will go, so very fine. The one and 2 shot buttons are programmed to do a pre-infusion and then a 30 second ish push of water. This works okay but you can "reprogram it" through pushing and holding either button for the length of the shot you want- I put a scale under and when it hit 32g I let go, now that button pulls a 36g shot for an 18g basket fill. Even with proper tamping this basket is difficult to tap out and clean. It take multiple taps on my knock box and that is annoying, but once the puck is out, it's a quick rinse to clean everything. A puck screen doesn't seem to help. Using a scale really helps to dial in the espresso so it always tastes great. I have picked up a new bottomless portafilter and basket to go with this machine and I can't wait to put on the rest of the mods I plan. A pretty okay machine for a decent price. ... show more
