  • I LOVE IT! I LOVE IT! I LOVE IT!
I recently purchased a new Audi with a twin-turbo engine. There is just no way I can drive slow in this vehicle. I got stopped by the highway robbers (Police)in PG County, MD and was given a speeding ticket (only 8miles over the limit). Furious, I decided to research a good radar detector. Much to my dismay, they all had these long dangling cables from the unit to your cigarette lighter or car's aux power unit. Most could be hard wired into your vehicle, but I did not want to take the chance with a 50K automobile. Then I found the Escort Solo S2. My prayers were answered. No dangling cabling that screams "HERE IS A RADAR DETECTOR!" The Escort uses two AA batteries, and clips onto my sun visor (clip must be purchased separately, and it is out of the your field of vision while doing it's job). The Escort has alerted me to just about every band of radar out there. The public transportation buses in this area use a GPS, and that will set it off also, as well as passing by strip malls, but the alert is not a nusiance (it can be changed to your liking), and tells you exactly what it is you are being alerted to. Occassionally I drive through Wash., DC where detectors are illegal. I forgot to turn the Escort off, and it alerted me to a radar detector detector - thats right - the unit was being detected by the DC ROBBERS (cops). Luckily, the Escort will power itself off, and render the detectors signal useless. Ha! The unit itself is small enough to fit into my storage unit in the car (I only do that when I am at work. My worplace parking lot is secure), and is just slightly larger than a cellphone. This is a great piece of equipment, and with just one use, I am sold on it. In addition, I have also read that Energizer batteries (silver and blue) provided the best, and longest use in the unit (it came with two Duracells). I highly recommend the Escort S2 for its portability, ability to detect different bands of radar and it's stealthy, minimalistic appearance. Go get one now!! ... show more

  • Solo S2 stands out
Reviews I read varied from great to terrible. My experience has been only good to great. Batteries keep on going and going. Side by side comparison with my corded Valentine echoed the test data I saw that showed only about 10% less alert distance - still much better than most. My objective was use on my motorcycle; wireless to avoid clumsy electrical taps; compact, easy to remove and secure at stops. I can hear it through my helmet at highway speeds. It works well and fits perfectly in my locking accessory compartment. Better than expected. Improvements? Sure, a bit louder alarm [not a problem in a car]; can't see the display from the mount on my motorcycle [don't really care]; waterproof case [no one offers one and I can always stow it, if it rains]. Be sure to read the instructions completely before use, and adjust the settings as needed. ... show more

  • Cordless Radar Detection
The Solo S2 works flawlessly. The cordless feature is very convenient. Little or no false signals. Mutes itself and/or has manual muting. Turns itself off after 20 minutes of no motion to save battery life. Carrying case is handy. I am very happy with the performance and the product after some long road trips--gives me confidence that it will detect any radar. ... show more

  • Good but not great
New unit does pick up radar signals but seems more random than my cord unit. Not as much advance warning for some encounters but plenty on others. Unit did jam and had to be reset with power-up once after a month of use. Not as much flexibility in controlling unit as cord model (8 years old). Have used Escort for 30 years. If you can go with cord, do so, if must have portable I would bet this is the best of the lot given Brand history. ... show more

  • Good product - but check warranty with manufacturer
The Escort Solo S2 is an excellent radar/laser detector. Two AA batteries provide the power for those who don't wish to deal with cords. Also has the ability to be hard-wired to vehicle 12V power with extra accessory cord kit. Gives ample warning for radar bands Ka, K and X. Note: X-band radar guns are 1970's-type technology and you will encounter mostly K and the newer Ka band radar gun usage. The Solo S2 will pick up a Ka-using speed enforcer up to a couple miles away - the cheaper detectors give far less warning. As for laser speed detection, well, it lets you know when you are being targeted. You will not have enough time to slow down unless you are using this in combination will other anti-laser measures such as special license plate covers and diffraction coating on your headlights. This happens because the infra-red laser beam enforcers use only spreads to 18 inches diameter at 500 feet and 36 inches diameter at 1000 feet. As for the warranty, although I have had no problems, be aware that the manufacturer, Escort Radar, has a whole list of sellers from which purchases of their detectors will NOT BE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER WARRANTY. see [...] ... show more

  • I was pulling easy triple digits coming up on a long left handed ...
I own a 1993 Kawasaki ZX11 with a top speed of 176mph. This unit paid for itself the 1st summer. I have a corded ear bud up into my helmet, and with KA, POP, Laser, you name it, it found it. North of Yakima, Washington, is the twisty Canyon Road, which follows the river up to Ellensburg. I was pulling easy triple digits coming up on a long left handed sweeper when exiting the corner, all of a sudden the Solo starts screaming like a banshee from hell. Now, I'm running magnesium rims, Galfer stainless steel brake lines, aftermarket wave rotors, with 6 puck front calipers, (not stock), and a modified suspension. I grabbed a handful of front stopping power and nose dived the bike hard. The curve exited into a long straight stretch and waaaaaay in the distance on the left side of the road was a white SUV looking vehicle. I figured I was busted for sure, the way my headlight must have dipped to him,. I was able to drop her down from 110+ to around 60 and maintained that speed as I rode by him. Yep, State Bull for sure, and he didnt even look @ me once.... 3 times that summer this detector saved my bacon. Haven't had a Ticket since I bought it. BUY THIS DETECTOR OR THE SOLO 3 ... show more
