I did not buy it here on Amazon. I have had for 12 years and still working for radar detection fine. Lazer option started false alerts even in my garage. so much so that I turned it off which can be done if u read manual. My escort x50 8500 works exceptionally well. That said, you have to learn its noises. Most radars are on X-band. But so are automatic doors, however there is a distinguishable difference in the noise you hear. You have to learn the ESCORT language. Lazers radar can only be performed while the cop is ztNding still and pointed straight at you. But the Escort can detect the signal whether pointed at you or not, and from a long way off. It will also beep when you approach road construction because they Actually put things out there that will activate detectors. You need to think of the escort as a signal alert detector. Because everytime it makes a noise you will lift off the gas pedal. At that point it has done its job. It has made you become more aware of your surroundings and chances are you will drive more safely. My escort has saved me several times from tickets. I guarantee once you learn its different noises you. nt drive without it. I would buy another one just like it with no hesitation. It's annoying at first because you may think it's lying, even thoughyou may not always see the cop doesn't mean one isn't present. ... show more
