  • This is my 2nd Escort IX Laser Radar Detector - Because the 1st works great
This is my 2nd Escort IX Laser Radar Detector - which I bought because the 1st one I bought works great. I have had an Escort IX Laser Radar Detector in my SUV for almost 2 years and it has consistently worked great. It has a long range, it gives few false positives (and what seem to be false positives are usually Radar Equipped Street Signage so in fact it is not a false positive). The Detector accurately tells you what speed you are traveling at, can be programmed to warn you when you exceed a certain speed you have the option of setting. I have owned a variety of Radar Detectors over the years and this is by far the most accurate, has the longest range and the most features of any Radar Detector I have owned. It's range and sensitivity are sufficient to capture intermittent signals when the Police are switching on and off their Radar or Laser. It also has a community online feature that uses the power of community use to identify radar traps in near real time. This is a very nice Detector and when my wife was stopped and ticketed she insisted she have the same detector I had. I concurred fully. This is not an inexpensive Radar Detector by any measure but it is not even the most expensive Escort Brand Detector and is certainly not as expensive as many Detectors that quite frankly do not work as well. I am very pleased with mine and my wife has avoided 2 additional tickets since getting hers. I highly recommend this - It is usually available for approximately $300. ... show more

  • Great detector, blows the R3 away, can't beat escort!
Really happy with my escort this far. Plenty of time to adjust speed when it alerts. Like ALL of today's detectors you will get sone false alerts, but it has auto stored and memorized a couple spots that always give a false alert. So... It's pretty good about that. The only issue i could day i might be the over speed alert, but i can turn that off, .so i have no issue! Lol. The issue i has add with that feature was that once you hit 70mph it alerts you with a voice command that you are "over speed"...and it would just catch me off guard, lol. The window mount is really awesome. I read a review prior ro buying it that said that, but seriously... it is. Its got a big suction cup for the window, and mounts via a powerful magnet and small lip that straightens it all out once you install the detector to the mount. Super easy, super solid, really a great part iff the complete package. I have not yet hooked up to the escort internet account program that is supposed to alert you to other users reported speed traps, mainly because I read multiple reviews complaining the yearly $50 enrollment isnt worth what you get. I can't comment either way on that. I cam tell you i am confident with this detector in my window. Also, i bought two of these. One at best buy, one on Amazon (for $85 less than best buy!) The one from Amazon ALSO came with a 2 year extended service/ extended warranty sticker that extends your w warranty 2 years free! Also, before purchasing the escort iX...i had purchased the unidan R3 because it had the best reviews and was supposed to be the new king of detectors. I was totally let down and returned it with in a week. The speaker quit working, it started freezing up on me, WAY too many false alerts, AND i just knew better. The first escort i had NEVER let me down...so why would i just go ot ...and switch brands to some company that just got back into the game or is just trying it out? It was a let down, and im glad i got my head right and went back to my escort. I have some product loyalty for a reason! ... show more

  • Works Like a Charm
Been using this thing for well over a year now (wanted to wait before reviewing it since the amount of time you use it is a big factor — I'd ignore any reviews that don't stipulate being used for at least a few months). Here are the main highlights, in no particular order: 1. No tickets yet. *knock on wood* This thing has saved my butt at least once a month since purchasing it. I'm not a crazy-fast driver but I do like to go 10-12 over on rural highways when nobody's around, and there are a fair number of police patrolling even these areas. 2. No physical issues, no need to return it for service as stated in reviews of this and similar models. I think this happens when there are firmware updates earlier in the product's life cycle. So stuff ends up on store shelves somewhere for a year or more (and in not a fully working state), people buy it and then have a worse experience than someone who bought a model that just came off the line a month ago (i.e. has newer firmware / the bugs worked out of it.) 3. You can set the mode to match the radar settings mostly commonly used in your area, and if there are a lot of false "K-band" alarms in your area you can set to "LowK" which will not omit the strength of police radars but will ignore weaker signals in that band from banks and other sources. Mute button on charger base easy to use without taking eyes off road, once you know where to reach (i.e. after the first couple uses). Have to use this a couple times a trip as the memory doesn't always work (see below). 4. The range is fantastic regardless of mode. There are spots where the police cruiser is a mile or more away, and with hills between us (or a bend in the road) — no line of sight — and the alarm sounds well in advance of the cruiser having line of sight. It's like clockwork on rural highways. Get an alarm, watch it for 3-5 seconds to see if signal slowly increases, if it does slow down, wait for cruiser to pass. 15-20 seconds later there's the police, either driving by or parked off the road. The only major flaw is that the "mute memory" which you use to skip areas where you know the alarm will always be tripped, does not work well. It ties into GPS somehow, but I've noticed the couple times I've saved locations during an alarm (both while driving and while stopped at a light), tend to "drift" over time. Like two weeks later the mute location will kick in a 500-1000 feet early, then go off as you actually pass the spot where you intended it to mute. It's annoying but I've learned to live with it with liberal use of the Mute button in this one spot. Small price to pay for not getting a ticket. Around here the choices are get stuck behind Buick-driving grandpas or farmer Bob, all of whom think the speed limit is just a little too fast and regularly drive 40 in 50 zones, and be late to work or other venues... speed without this device and once a year get saddled with a $120 ticket that stays on your record for 3 years (regardless of whether you're 8 over or 18 over)... or get this, drive a reasonable speed and get no tickets. Easy choice, with all due respect to Buick owners and old farmers everywhere. -1 Star for that, otherwise works great. Highly recommended. UPDATE: after 6 or 7 years you may find that the LED brightness starts to fade, forcing you to use the brightest setting, which still may not be bright enough to see if there's bright sun coming through the windshield, but it still works fine (can go by the audio tones as by this time you'll know what a false-alarm sounds like and what a real radar "ping" sounds like). Once this thing goes I am absolutely buying another one, or the closest available model from this brand. Has saved my butt countless times over the years, including a few stop light cameras in unfamiliar areas. ... show more
