We bought this for our backyard, I was a bit skeptical at first as some reviews mentioned some issues but it turned out to pleasantly surprise with how well this is designed and built. It took me almost a full day to assemble with 1 person helping me. The only tedious part of assembly was getting the many, many slats snapped in place but the majority of the mechanism for the slats came pre-assembled. Overall it came packaged very well and there were no scuffs or scratches on it anywhere even though a few of the boxes had some dents on the outside from Fedex being so "gentle" with them. When placing the hooks for the mesh screen and solid curtains into the tracks make sure to count it out correctly but it does come with a few spares so I ended up with 1-2 extra hooks in some of the tracks but they do not affect anything and aren't even visible. We have now had it for over a month and it has rained many times and this is actually much more waterproof than I expected. During moderate to light rain it is completely dry under it when the slats are in closed position. in a heavy thunderstorm, some droplets will bounce off the center crossbeam and into the covered area so if you need it to be completely waterproof you can do what I did and add a piece of linear plastic that covers that 0.5" gap. The entire structure is aluminum and all hardware is stainless steel so will never corrode or rust. The steel plates that brace the corners are well painted and will also not rust. I feel confident that this will last at least 10+ years if maintained well and debris such as fallen leaves cleaned off the slats regularly. It comes with concrete anchors that are rather short and I didn't install because to me this seems heavy and sturdy enough that wind will not move it.

Installation/Assembly: I hired a couple of guys to help me with the installation. It took us about a day and a half to get installed. All the parts were in the boxes, and everything was in good condition when it arrived. Parts were properly labeled and matched the instructions. The sealant for plugging the seams to prevent leaks is messy. And, because we installed in the summer the sealant expanded. When we opened the packet, it exploded. I wish there had been a suggestion to keep the packet inside in the AC till ready to use. I think that may have prevented our little mess. Once installed the louvers worked great and after 6 months they are still functioning like the first day. The mosquita/bug net is a must here in Florida and that works well. the zippers can behave a little wonky, but it's manageable with a little patience. The only thing I've noticed is there is some pitting of the metal on the lever used to open and close the louvers. It works fine, it just doesn't look fantastic. The only mistake I made in ordering this was I got that the height is a little too low. If I'd had an additional 2 feet in height it would have lined up perfectly with my roof line. That being said, it still looks great and has allowed me and the family to enjoy our back yard even through the hot South Florida summers.

This pergola turned my PNW deck into a year round indoor-outdoor room! I was wanting to screen in my deck so I could sit out there during the rain and listen to it thunder or simply relax out there on a summer evening without getting eaten alive by mosquitos. The quotes were way beyond what I was expecting and would require permitting - more hassle and expense. Then I found this pergola and it solved everything. Because it's erected ON my existing deck, no permitting was needed (I'm in King County, WA). I did pay a contractor/handyman service to build it (well worth it!) We had to elevate it some so it would go over a bay window frame and we added some weather stripping to block rain from falling between the gaps (it's not the exact size of my deck by very close). It comes with two set of enclosures - a lightweight screen that does a pretty good job keeping out pests and a heavier canvas we use for privacy or as protection during big, windy storms. My only criticism is that these enclosures zip open and closed .. from the top! For 5' 1" me, not a chance I can reach. I abandoned the zippers and use large safety pins instead. The slats at the top open on a nice day to let the sun stream in; during rain or snow, you simply crank them closed. (No, they don't open or close automatically but it's a very simple matter to turn the hand crank.). Because my house is surrounded by giant trees, debris does tend to accumulate up there and rain down on your head the first time you open them after a while. I have to spend some time "opening the deck", which means opening the slats, letting the crap fall, sweeping it up. It's a minor pain. We added baby gates by the deck stairs to keep my dog and granddaughter contained, hung some lights, and now you are more likely to find us out there than anywhere else.
