  • They're Ernies, of course they're good dummy
Color: Regular (50-105) Style: 4-String
I generally prefer flatwounds but decided to remind myself why and by the almighty power of Beefcake the Mighty himself do I remember why after popping these on my axe. These are not bad strings by any means, E Balls have yet to disappoint me over the last two decades with their sound and feel, they are however bad strings for my preferences and play style. Tldr: They're Ernie Balls, they'll be good no matter what just make sure you remember which ones you prefer ... show more

  • Great strings but use caution
Color: Super (45-100) Style: 4-String
I went to buy a replacement set as I had been using EB Cobalts for a while now. I noticed a "used" set posted in original packaging and in good condition, so I thought I could save a few bucks and break-in time. Unfortunately, the "E" was already unraveling and the original buyer returned them and Amazon resold them. Once the outer ribbon starts unraveling they're no good. The original buyer had cut the string, probably before bending it, and it unraveled. Good for the buyer, bad for me. I requested a return and ordered a "new" set. That set came the next day and worked great! Lessons learned, 1) don't buy used strings, 2) bend before cutting or wind the whole string(looks unsightly I know) and 3) buy Amazon as they back their products and mistakes. ... show more

  • Great tone but delicate
Color: Super (45-100) Style: 4-String
I gave these strings 2 stars in my first review because the low E snapped above the ball after running it through the body and stretching it. But I have to confess, no other round sounds as good as these. They have no raspiness and provide the most "middy" tone of any round string I've ever tried, and I have tried many. For hex cores they aren't too stiff, and feel very smooth under the fingers. Just treat them gently and be careful when stretching. The E broke during installation and the A went dead after a few weeks. ... show more

  • Need to cut through the mix? These are the ones
Color: Regular (45-130) Style: 5-String
Great strings. Need to cut through the mix or if you need a little more output these are the ones for you. Put them on a carvin lb75 and increased the output which made the audio guy at church happy. If you dig in you get a piano like sound but still has a nice low end growl for me.

  • Dissapointing
Color: Regular (45-130) Style: 5-String
Started to rust in under a year of usage. All my previous bass strings didn' started rust for well over a year, some of them I just replaced them without rust but these Ernie Balls Cobalt seems to be subsectible to rusting. Beware!

  • Great bass strings
Color: Regular (45-130) Style: 5-String
I was skeptical that just changing the type of string could brighten up my sound while also scooping low end frequency AND give more overall volume, but I was willing to gamble 40 bucks to see. I'm glad I did. These will make your bass stand out in the mix and really save your amp from working harder than it has to. I'm playing these on an 09 Ibanez sr305 with arched pickups (which sound great on their own). I'm running through a custom 2x10 cabinet with a micro 250 watt head. These strings gave my 210 similar low end oomph as a single 15 but also kept the high end definition. Really happy with these and will be getting them for my other basses. ... show more
