The clamp required more assembly than I expected., but I was able to assemble them easily enough. Successfully mounted to my roof mounts, and drove around. Went 55-60 mph with no sound or whistling coming from the bars, even with the windows down and sunroof open. The teardrop shape really does the trick! Haven't tested with cargo yet. Will update my review after that test. There was the incident when the long screw spring and triangle shaped stopper fell out of one of the clamps. Didn't see the spring fall out or where it bounced off to. I saw the triangle shaped stopper and put the it back in it's place and shoved the end clamp on. Had one heck of a time getting it back off once I found the spring and discovered where it went, after removing the other clamp to see where it goes. Thus the question about the missing spring keeping the clamp from being removed. Only reason 1 star was taken away. Had to put ice on the bar to make it contract as much as possible, then a rubber mallot knocked the clamp off of the bar. Put the screw in front of the stopper. The cramp slid right into place and allowed me to move it back-n-forth to adjust the length. Issue resolved. Don't loose that screw spring! Very important! ... show more

First, I have bought and installed crossbars on more than one car. It’s not that big of a project at all. I install these in about 20 minutes. A few things I noticed: first, although I knew it ahead of time, I feel better crossbars, all as one piece, instead of the bar, being separate from the clamps. Second, I’m not sure why the lock is not also part of the clamp. I feel it’s a pretty weak design as far as use ability. and the lock when turn just a little bit the wrong way will pop right out of its housing. I do feel they are sturdy. However, they are the loudest crossbars I have ever had once I get up to about 40 mph, it sounds like someone is blowing across the mouth of a glass milk jug, but way louder. The noise is so loud, it ever takes the radio in my car. After installation, I noticed there are little gaps between the ends of the bars and the bracket housing, creating little spots where wind can get in and potentially make noise. I put tape over those holes just to see if it would make a difference, and it made none. If I can’t find, a permanent fix for the noise, I’m going to have to return them. Of course, I don’t feel like I should have to look for and find a fix. But I’d be willing to if it keeps me from sending them back and shopping for new ones. Will update the review when I find out if I can resolve the noise problem. ... show more

    • Wind noise is a real problem

Unfortunately, the reviewers who said these bars make a lot of noise are not wrong! If I go above 30 or maybe 40 mph, there is a loud and constant wind whistle sound, loud enough to be distracting and annoying. Might not be a problem on short trips/commutes, but it's bad enough that if I went on a road trip, I would have to uninstall these for my own sanity. Also, the wide width of these bars did not allow me to mount other hardware (such as a kayak rack/cradle) onto them. ... show more
