The Skybar V2 is a very well designed roof rack with high quality construction. It has a sleek appearance that goes well with the X3's lines, and there are no projections to bump your head on like some universal racks. It fits snugly on the X3's rails and the contact surfaces of the mount are insulated with rubber that eliminate any play in the connection and protect the roof and rails from scratches. When tightened with the included Allen (hex) wrenches (that have handy, solid plastic heads) the roof rack is quite solidly attached to the SUV. The assembly and installation are quick and easy if one attends carefully to the video (in the Amazon listing or linked with a QR code in the printed instructions). On the X3, one bar is about 3/4" longer than the other --which one might not notice-- and one really needs to know that, as the video indicates, that the longer one goes in front. In the last step, the black metal covers with the lock are installed on each mount. This requires a bit of pressure against the L-shaped plastic inserts and being sure that the cam at the rear of the lock is aligned with the slot on the roof rack mount.

Consider the weight you will add to this rack. It fits well and is easy to install but it has some flexing and weight limitations. Would be OK for skis and snowboard that don't have a lot of weight or wind resistance. I wanted to carry sea kayaks with a combined high weight and lots of wind resistance so this rack did not work for me.

When I opened the box I immediately knew it was used! The instruction manual had coffee stains on it and the parts were not packaged. All of the little parts were all over the box. The roof rack did seem to be solid. I think it is probably a sturdy roof rack, but I did notice the keys were not easy to insert and the locks were hard to turn. I did get my money back, but I did have to stay on top of the customer service/seller. In my opinion, they did whatever they had to do, but never volunteered on their own to solve the problem. Yes, they solved it but not without me staying on it! This was not a smooth return as far as I’m concerned. I had to request a pre-paid return label. Please know, I’m not the type of person to rate anything I buy, but today I felt like it was necessary! I gave them 2 stars because I did get my money back! Take my advice…. run! Go to the next item and choose another seller!
