Received my Ergonomic Chair order this morning. There is no instruction booklet that came with the order. It took me about 15 minutes and a couple trial and error to assemble the chair. It is very sturdy with metal frame. Lumber support is the problem here until I figure out it’s operation. One can move the lumber support up and down except the upper most portion. The upper most position is meant for the lumber support to reset I.e. once you set the lumber support at a particular position, you can only move it to the upper most position and once there, you can move the lumber support downward and put the lumber support at a different position. One thing I like this chair very much is that the depth of the seat is only about 17+ inches. Most other chair is 20+ inches deep. Since my upper leg is relative short, 17 inches deep is perfect for me. 20 inches + deep chair would force me to sit tilted backward and as such my back won’t be vertical and cause back pain. In order to pick the chair for yourselves, it is very important to get the right chair depth that match your thigh length. Second thing I like the chair is the adjustable arm that can move up and down. I have chronic upper back pain for the last few years. None of my doctors and physical therapists can figure out what cause it and they keep telling me to do more back exercise. The fist time I sat it this chair this morning, my upper back pain improved drastically. As it turn out, the weight of my arm keep pulling my upper back muscle daily while I sit down is the root cause of my upper back pain. The arm rest in my other chairs are not high enough to let my arm rest on top. So my back muscle has do all the heavy lifting daily.. I give this chair high mark for the adjustable arm, lumbar and head rest. The small seating area (both the width and depth) allow my entire body support by the chair. Getting the right size chair is a big part of the challenge of getting the perfect chair.

I purchased this chair with a $100 discount coupon after looking at prices and features of other chairs. The chair is actually 4 stars but the extra added star is for the customer service I received. I was not disappointed with the overall construction. The lumbar support was quite easy to adjust by simply lifting the the back of the chair through three detente positions. This can be done easily while sitting in the chair. The downside to this is that when standing up it is easy to unintentionally move the adjustment higher. When the support is moved to the top position it will automatically drop down to the lowest position. A simple lock mechanism would be nice. The wheels are a minimum design like many lower price chairs and I wound up spending $25 for polyurethane replacements but that is my preference. The mesh seems sturdy and comfortable. The overall construction and quality of materials seem good as well. Now for the real issue I had with the chair. After about a month the chair would drop to the bottom of the cylinder travel after getting up and sitting down again. Once back in the chair with the height adjusted it would stay at the desired height until I stood up and sat down again and then it would drop to the bottom. I had one day left to return it but Amazon extended the return window by 30 days so I could work with the vendor because I liked the chair. After contacting the vendor we determined the hydraulic cylinder was at fault. The vendor offered to issue me a credit of $40 to purchase a replacement cylinder from Amazon which I did. He said the cylinders were just about all the same. When I went to install the new cylinder I discovered it did not fit properly in the base. It seems the original one has a 90mm high narrow shaft before the fitted taper contacts the base which raised the chair by several inches and made it unstable. I contacted the vendor again and he offered to order an original replacement cylinder. A week went by and when I contacted the vendor again he apologized and once again offered to refund an additional $50. I explained that the particular cylinder that was on the chair was almost impossible to find and that they had already credited me $40. He assured me that a replacement cylinder would be shipped to me and a day later sent me the tracking number for the new cylinder. I have replaced cylinders before and they usually come out of the lift mechanism without too much trouble. Not this one. After struggling for more than an hour I notified the vendor that the cylinder would not separate from the lift mechanism even with heat from a torch applied. At this point the vendor, without hesitation, apologized once again for my trouble and offered a full refund. So the extra star is for a vendor that responds in a timely manner to problems with their product, accepts responsibility, and fully addresses the issue. It has been a long time since I have worked with any company that works this hard to resolve an issue and satisfy a customer. I would buy from them again in a heartbeat.

I have lower back problems that are often brought on by slouching in my office chair. I bought this chair specifically because of the ability to adjust the lumbar support. It has really helped to improve my posture and keep me aware of when I start to slouch, which has reduced the severity and onset of my back pain. So that is great! Secondly I wanted to try this chair because it is a small fraction of the cost of an X-chair. I bought an X-chair for my wife last Christmas so I can make a reasonable comparison. While the X-chair has more bells and whistles, the lumbar support on this chair is far superior. Otherwise, I find the comfort level pretty similar. The X-chair feels a little more cushy, but I like the firmness and feeling of support of this chair better than the X-chair. The only complaint I have with this chair is related to the way the chair back adjusts. You can lift the chair up 4 clicks and then it falls to the lowest setting, from there you can lift the back a number of clicks to your comfort level. For me that is just getting the lumbar pad to the right location. The problem is that there is no way, that I can tell, to lock the back in a particular position. So often, when I get up or sit down in the chair the slight bounce or friction of the mesh on my clothing causes the chair back to shift and then I have to re-adjust the chair back to the proper location. It would be nice if there were some locking mechanism to keep the chair back in the selected position. That said, the chair back is not heavy, so it is easy to adjust once it shifts. It's just kind of irritating when it happens. Overall, I really like this chair and hope it lasts a long time. (I've been using it for about two weeks.) And the price point is, well, pretty fantastic.
