  • Decent but flawed in a couple of ways
Color: Black
I just got the chair today, so can't speak to how well it'll hold up over time, but here are my initial impressions: Pros: - Packaged very well. Even though the outside of the box looked a tad rough, everything inside was perfectly protected. - Super easy to put together (I did it by myself in less than 15 minutes) - Comfortable to sit upright in - Rolls smoothly (on chair mat and smooth surfaces) - Armrests offer plenty of adjustability. One of my "must haves" were armrest that could be rotated up and out of the way when not needed and most of the chairs I looked at (with headrest and footrest) don't allow that. It's really the main reason I ordered this chair over other even more expensive options. If you don't need that feature, then you have a lot more choices than I was limited to. The armrest can be swiveled to angle in, out, or just aligned straight ahead. They have a tactile click and seem to stay in place nicely (on day 1). They also have 4 lockable height positions that slide up and away. this means that the higher they are the further forward they are (the opposite of ideally how they'd be). This is an understandable issue with the design and in my experience is the same for every chair design that allows for the armrests to swivel up and out of the way (the support is angled, thus the raising/lower of the height follows that same angle). Not a huge issue, and one I'm used to from my older chairs, but be aware if you have short/long arms the armrest height impacts how far forward/backward it is (I end up with it at one of the middle heights and the armrest supports from about the middle of my forearm to my elbow, which leaves the rear half the armrest untouched). I wish someone would come up with a better design that allowed for the rotate out of the way I like but also allowed for more of the armrest to be used by more of my arm. Oh well, it's super common to have this issue, so i don't fault this chair. Indifferent: - The chair is quite heavy, which is a good thing most of the time (it's only bad when carrying it up/down stairs or such) - The footrest could use a tad more padding (it's not mesh like the rest of the chair). It's 1/4" of foam over plastic, covered in black fabric, and so it's not uber comfortable. It does tuck away wonderfully when not in use, which is why the user can't add more padding and it would require a design tweak by the manufacturer to allow for more padding height. The footrest does have a slight curve to it which helps slightly with comfort and is appreciated. - There's a lack of contour (curve) to the seat and back compared to my old $99 mesh chair. Over time maybe the fabric will stretch or loosen allowing more curve (my 5 year old chair's mesh never stretched, so the built-in curve remained the same from day one), but if it does that'll lead to problems in other ways. Just know that it feels much more flat across the seat and back than most other chairs (mesh or not) so there's no sense of cradling or hugging like a lot of other chairs provide. - The headrest isn't really adjustable in a meaningful way. It does move a little up/down and it rotates, however at 5'-10" tall I have to have it fully extended to work right so anyone taller is going to be disappointed. My wife at 5-6" found it was OK at it's lowest setting, but we both agree anyone shorter would probably be better off not even installing it since it'd just be uncomfortably in the way. Also, the rotation doesn't do anything, it's only comfortable in one position so that "adjustment" isn't really useful. Cons: - I wish the footrest could be extended 2"-3" inches further (I'm 5'-10" and it's uncomfortably short after more than 30 minutes or so of use because of where the edge cuts into the back of my calves). Also, it wobbles a fair amount and therefore seems cheap/flimsy, but time will tell how/if it holds up. - There's a surprising amount of bounce to everything. The seat when sitting down or standing up ins't bothersome, however the armrest and back wiggles and bounces annoyingly even when locked into position. Overall it just doesn't feel very solid and rather feels cheaper than ideal. That said, it's not a case of "you get what you pay for" since I have 2 different other office chairs (one $99 mesh mid-back, and one $149 cloth high-back) and both of those feel much more solid and don't feel as bouncy/cheap. - The lumbar is adjustable up/down but because it's so far away from the fabric I only feel it when it's at the highest position (and then it's too high to be at my "lumbar") where the fabric is closest. - The back only locks in 3 positions. It'd be nice if it also locked in a very modestly reclined position (not straight upright, but less reclined than what's currently offered, since that's the most comfortable. - The tension is WAY too light! REALLY DISAPPOINTED in this and the tensioner barely adds any tension at all! If it was easy to return, I probably would just because of this issue alone. You can't really lean back a little because it just keeps going back until you reach the limit (which is looking up at the ceiling reclined). And I can't keep it locked in a slightly reclined position, because it only locks in 3 non-user selected positions. So you're left with either locking it in the upright position, or just never leaning back a little, unless you want to end up staring at the ceiling. Overall it makes the chair basically only usable in the 3 positions that the user has no control over. SUMMARY: A chair that out of the box looks good and is comfortable to sit upright in, in 3 positions predetermined by the manufacturer, NOT the user. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone outside the height range of 5'-6" to 5'-10" (5'-9" if the footrest is really important to you). As for comfort when not sitting upright or when shifting position, it lacks any sort of functional tensioner and therefore is pretty subpar and most other chairs would be better choices. I just got it so can't speak to longevity and how well it does/doesn't hold up over time. ... show more

  • minor flaws (will update)
Color: Black
(June 2023) the chair is overall pretty easy to put together, simple enough instructions. the arm rests are padded some, they're a bit hard but not pure hard plastic, to me this is fine and doesn't hurt my arms or anything. they also adjust nicely and so far haven't had any issues with them loosely moving around. the mesh material is pretty nice, breathable. my main issue is with the headrest, it's adjustable for height and moves around some, but it's absolutely useless for me unless I'm leaning completely back like a recliner. if it came forward more, it would be perfect. my other flaw with the chair is the part that comes out for your feet to rest on, it's a bit short for me but that's fine since it works. unfortunately that part just comes out randomly sometimes, it doesn't have a "clip" or anything to keep it in place from sliding out really. other than that the chair so far feels pretty good. ... show more

  • Great chair, but don’t overlook this one thing.
Color: Black
The chair feels great for the price, loads better than the Ikea chair I had before, however the one thing I’d change is the headrest height and the backrest height. It’s too low for people I’d say above 5’8. I can only use it when reclined, and when in upright position is rest on the back of my neck. It’s my fault for not checking the measurements before buying, but it’d be nice if it could be changed in the future, but realistically that might be too much to ask for from a chair of this price point. ... show more

  • Saving my back!
Color: Black
After only a day working in this chair in a semi-reclined position, I immediately felt a reduction in fatigue in my lower and upper back in neck. I work at home three days a week (with this chair), and in the office for two, and I already notice how much less physically stressful my at-home days are. I've felt for a long time that the "right angle" standard of seating ergonomics is actually more conducive to slumping forward, because once you are in a 90 degree position in the upper body, there is no way to go but forward. If you are leaning back and can slide the keyboard to the right position, the back is more relaxed and it's harder to push the head forward. Because I use the headrest, I am much more likely to notice if I'm pushing my head forward, because it's not in contact with the headrest. I also usually use the footrest, since I am 5'4" and tend to need support under my feet. I love the fact that the armrests push back, since I can sit up with my legs crossed if I want, which is better for the hips. The only limitation I have at the moment is that my desk is not optimized for the shape of the chair. I'll be getting a different desk to allow more space for the chair to move, and then I expect my home office will be optimized for me to achieve my dream -- a fully remote job! ... show more

  • If you're under 275 lbs purchase this chair
Color: Black
Don't worry, I did the research for you and purchased this chair with my own money after my Autonomous (stay away from that company) chair's back broke when I leaned back in it. The Autonomous chair costs me over $400 and this chair costs about $168 and obliterates the Autonomous in every way. The setup is super easy and the headrest and leg extension are the whipped cream and cherries on top. Do your research. I dare you to find a budget office chair that gives you this much bang for the buck. I'm sitting in it as I type this review. GO BUY IT! ... show more
