  • Amazon Refurbished was the way to go.
Review on Renewed Product: It arrived in an Epson certified renewed box, which was very well packaged. It also included all the accessories. The projector itself looked in excellent condition. I immediately did the Epson warranty verification using the serial number and it showed having 2 years warranty. I tested it out and everything was normal, brightness, colors and no unusual images etc on black or white screens. I would say soo far it was an excellent buy. I would say that communication with Amazon was no lt good as they were not aware of the condition or warranty of the projector. Review on Epson 5050ub: Coming from an Epson 5040ub, this projector handles HDR much better with more contrast and is a bit sharper that the older model. I'm using it on a 130 inch 21:9 1.0 gain white screen in a totally darkened cinema room. ... show more

  • Incredible picture. Renewed is a great deal.
First of all, I was hesitant about purchasing "renewed" because I found conflicting information in the reviews about if the product would still be covered by the 2 year manufacturer's warranty. The projector came in an Epson-branded "Epson Refurbished product" box. Using Epson's online warranty check, the SN says the product is covered by their standard 2 year warranty. Plus you get Amazon's 90 day "bonus" return period in case you change your mind. The projector looked brand new when it came out of the box- no scratches or dings. I couldn't tell that it was used. The lamp life says "0 hours". To the product itself-- holy cow! I'm upgrading from an Epson 2150 and there is truly a world of difference between the two. The brightness, colors, and contrast are just phenomenal. It's not OLED-good, but it's pretty close. For reference, I'm projecting onto a 120inch DIY screen made of Flexiwhite 1.1 gain and my room is 100% light controlled. The lens shift is a huge plus here. I have the projector sitting on a shelf about 7.5 ft from the ground and 16 ft behind the screen. I am not using a mount- just a DIY shelf. The lens shift was able to get the picture exactly perfect on my screen without using any keystone adjustment. With the 2150, I was forced to use a mount, manual fiddling, and had to use tons of keystone to get the picture right and even then I was missing out on 4-5" of screen space because I couldn't zoom out enough. I was able to get the 5050ub image perfect in just minutes using the lens shift. You will need to mess with the settings a good bit to dial in the image until it looks best. I think most people are doing 2 different memory settings, one for 4k and one for 1080p. Lots of information available online about what works best. Here is one key item in the settings that took me a while to figure out-- definitely adjust the HDR slider when watching HDR 4k content so that the picture doesn't look washed out. For 4k HDR, the default HDR slider setting is 8 and some people online usually suggest leaving it at 8 or 7, but I found that some content still looked washed out with that setting and moving it back to 2-4 made an enormous difference. From what I understand, this setting will likely be one you will be adjusting depending on the content. SDR content is less finicky so far. And regarding 4k- I know it's not "true" 4k, but it looks incredible. The immersiveness you gain from a huge screen outweighs the slightly less sharpness you get from pixel-shifting 4k. I can't imagine that the nearly double cost you would pay to get native 4k would be worth it. Maybe when the tech advances and prices go down, but not now. Overall, I'm very pleased with the 5050ub. The image quality and features especially at the renewed price are certainly worth it. Hopefully this one holds up for many years to come. ... show more

  • Its good, but
This is a good unit for the money. In the long run I will replace it with a higher level projector, but its fine for now.

  • Awesome picture! Pricey, but worth it to me.
Amazing picture and vibrant color. Significantly brighter than my Optoma HD142x, which was rated at a higher lumen output. I watch this in a room with plenty of light and it still rocks. Outstanding at night, and really impressive all around. Very satisfied with it. I also bought this “renewed” and it came in absolute mint condition with zero issue and 0 hours of lamp used. It was brand new in all but name, and saved me a ton of money. Still just taken back by how great video games look, and how good the black levels get. It’s not OLED level for sure, but at night it’s as good as I would ever hope a projector could be. Surprisingly quiet, very functional remote, and the motorized lens is great for adjusting everything once its’a hung up. Mine is ceiling mounted. It’s large, but has a very impressive picture. On the plus side, since it technically runs 1080p (and pixel shifts to 4K), I can play video games on “performance mode” and get the best of both worlds. Extremely low input lag. I am an avid gamer and have had zero issues. Can’t tell the difference between this and my Samsung TV for gaming (except that this screen is massive). ... show more

  • Only had it for about week but so far best projector I've had
I've had three Optomas. All three died, and started making noise, screen artifacts, so I've sworn off Optoma. A friend got me to look at his Epson projector, so I decided to go with the 5050UB. This is the best projector I've ever seen. The picture is the brightest, most colorful I've ever had. The adjustments for lens shift, zoom, and focus are bar none. The only downside, and it's not really a downside, is. It's a beast. If you're ceiling mounting it, either build a custom mount or buy a beast of a mount. ... show more

  • Very Disappointed - Not enough Lumens
I bought this with very high hopes, my last projector was an Epson, so I expected great things from this purchase. All I can say is it isn't bright enough. The Image is washed out from the area. Maybe I need better light control, but this isn't cutting it. It was a refurb unit, so maybe that is the issue, (I highly doubt that). Unless your space is dark, this projector isn't the one you need. I have a 135" silver screen with 1.5 gain, and a12 ft throw distance. This should be right in the wheel house . . . but it is not. ... show more

  • Excellent Projector! definitely a difference with 4k content
I came from epson 2030 1080p projector which has a good image. But the 5050ub definitely has a richer image which is really more noticeable with 4k content. Deep blacks, crisp sharpness and rich color. The only thing, this projector is huge. Like 2.5 times the epson 2030. This projector is best suited for a large home theatre room, but i love the quality so i will make it work for my set up. superb image quality! ... show more
