  • Epson EcoTank ET-4958
Epson EcoTank ET-4958 was easy to install and set up. It is connected by Ethernet cable to a Mac computer and by WiFi to iPhones and iPads. Print quality in color is good and very good in black and white. The noise level is higher than an old Brother ink jet color printer. Overall an excellent purchase. ... show more

  • Love this printer!
I really like this printer. Its good for basic prints and love the duplex function. I am a photographer and its not the best to print photos but overall its very easy to install and use. Only thing I wished it came with is a extra waste container. Definitely a very nice printer. I also have the 15000 series thats been converted to a sublimation printer...love it! You do have to use them or they will clog if they sit for long period of time... ... show more

Set up was easy. Haven't printed too many pages yet; but print quality looks good. Haven't used the scanner yet.

  • Washed out colors, poor contrast; poor return/refund policy (they kept over half my money)
I had previously given this printer two stars, but after my experience with their customer service, it’s getting downgraded to one star. Bottom line: poor print quality, and Epson kept $238.94 of my money and refunded me only $213.55 when I returned it, despite making it sound like I would get a full refund when I submitted a return request. Details for both are provided below. I had high hopes for this printer, especially at this price point. I like the idea of the ink tanks, but ultimately, the print quality was just poor. Even set to highest quality, the printed pages looked washed out and low contrast. Additionally, I experienced some minor frustrations with during setup—two error messages that required me to reboot the printer, and a jammed first printed page. Also, I did not appreciate that it made me do the set-up through my mobile phone, when it says you should be able to do it on a laptop/desktop. This is a work printer, so I didn’t necessarily want it connected to my personal phone, nor did I want to have to install the app, but every step of the way, it kept insisting that I set it up using a mobile phone, and after two error messages and having to reboot twice, I went that route. However, even after setting up everything on my phone, it still tried to walk me through the set-up again on the printer. I’m sure I told it at least 4 times that my language is English. In any event, I’m returning this because the print quality just looks bad. As an example, attached is a copy of the image that I printed (i.e., the Original), followed by an image of what this looks like when printed on my HP laser printer (that’s more than a decade old) (left), and what it looks like on this Epson printer (right). As you can see, with this printer, the colors are washed out, not true to color, and lacking contrast. After I submitted my return request, I decided to buy a Brother printer (INKvestment 4555 MFC-J4555DW Wireless Color Inkjet printer), which cost $280.96 (vs. Epson’s $452.49) ($171.53 less). I wouldn’t say the Brother was amazing—it felt kind of cheap, and it still didn’t print colors as nicely as my laser printer (seriously, I thought that ink-based printers were supposed to print better quality color images than laser printers…), but the colors were much better than the Epson. I’m attaching a picture showing the difference between images printed by the two printers—take note especially of the bright blue color, and how washed out it looks with the Epson printer. (Note, the color of the text on each image, indicating which printer it is, is pretty close to the color the printer should have printed.) The only notable feature that the Epson had that the Brother didn’t that I (somewhat) cared about was the 2-sided scanning. However, I mostly need a good printer, and the Epson is not a good printer. Now onto my return experience. When I submitted my return request, the closest option to why I was returning it was that it was “damaged.” I then explained in the comments section that it wasn’t so much that it was damaged, but that the print quality was incredibly poor. There was nothing in my return request that made me believe that I would be paying anything for return shipping, let along the $50 + tax + state improvement fee. There was also nothing indicating the company would keep another 50% of the price of the printer. I was made to believe I was going to get 100% of my money back (I should have taken a screenshot of the message I saw when I submitted the return request). When I received less than half of my money back, I reached out to their customer service. After several back and forth emails, they never responded to my inquiry about the shipping charge (the link to Amazon’s “Returns 30-day refund/replacement” policy, located on the printer’s purchasing page, clearly states, “the applicable return shipping fee is calculated and displayed to you during the return creation.” No such shipping fee was displayed to me). Further, they said they wouldn’t refund me my money because the printer wasn’t damaged (even though I had clearly stated such in my return request), and they charged me a 50% “restocking fee.” When I pointed out to them that printers are not listed among the items for which Amazon allows a restocking fee, and I asked where in Amazon’s policy they are seeing that they are allowed to charge me one, they never provided me with that information. They just repeated said they are charging me the fee because they can’t sell the item as new. I’m still considering taking these two issues—that I wasn’t informed about the shipping fee, and they charged me a restocking fee (when printers aren’t among the items for which sellers can charge a restocking fee)—up with Amazon. To add insult to injury, something on the bottom of this printer scratched the heck out of my new desk. :-( If I had to do this all over again, I’d go to an Office Depot/Max and see if you can still print test pages on the floor models. That would have probably saved me a bunch of hassle and money, and gotten me a better printer. ... show more

  • Good printouts
It doesn’t seem to be plug & play. I had to download apps and install before I was able to use the printer. I’m happy with its printouts. I chose to connect it directly with USB cable.
