If you're not getting a smart thermostat, this one has lots of features for the money. I have a large house with two boilers so I have two of these that I self installed. You can program it various ways for different times of the day. I like the fact that you can adjust the swing setting, (How much temp. fluctuation before the unit turns on), Emerson calls it the cycle rate with 3 settings and the middle one works fine for me. It's not a touch screen but the buttons are large and well marked. I do wish the screen was a bit larger but it does backlight when you push any of the buttons and if you have a C wire, (usually it's the blue wire), you can set the backlight to be on constantly.     • Excellent thermostat but Hold button should be labeled
I bought this to replace an identical one that I bought about eight years ago. It's well made, reliable, and generally easy to use, but it has two issues. The first issue is the Hold button. it's the bottom of the three buttons on the right side. It's not labeled, which is a big mistake, and it's the reason we unnecessarily bought a new thermostat. The problem with it being unlabeled is that some people in our house thought it was for turning on the display light. The thermostat is in a dark hallway, so seeing the display at night is difficult. The problem is that when someone presses this utton, it holds the temperature for 24 hours. This led me to think the old thermostat was malfunctioning, when in fact someone was just pressing the Hold button to read the display. The other issue is the manual's instructions for programming it. It's unnecessarily intimidating and confusing. There are two parts to it: configuring for your system and programming. If you have a basic system like mine (60 year old house with basic furnace, no cooling), you probably won't need to make changes for the configuration. The defaults were fine for my house. You do however need to read this part of the manual to configure for your system correctly. Programming times and temperatures is easy. I found it easier to just set program the thermostat for temperatures and times than to read the manual. Overall, it's a good enough thermostat that I've bought it twice (the first was labeled White Rodgers, but it's the same company and same thermostat. I can recommend it. ... show more

Very easy to install and program. Accurate to settings. Great price. For those who don't trust wifi controlled devices. Have the option to start setting at specific time or let the stat reach temp by designated time. Very pleased with this one.

I had an electrician replace my older thermostat which stopped working after 15 years. It was by a company which Emerson bought out. It has accurate temperature which I tested with a thermometer in the room. It takes a bit of time to program, but you don't have to do anything after that. Just follow the instructions. ... show more

I spent a lot of time researching thermostats. I bought this to heat a single room. This lets you control each day of the week separately with up to 4 settings per day (night, morning, afternoon, evening). Programming is a bit tedious, but it's straightforward and pretty easy. The buttons respond well. It works as expected. It seemed to be behaving strangely at first, but then I realized I hadn't set the clock. After that, it has been working great. Looks nice, is is on the larger side so make sure you measure. Barely fit on the space I had. These should be very easy to install, but the instructions were not written for someone who has not done this before. I ended up hiring someone to install it. Took him 10 minutes. Programming the temperatures were easy. I set it to 7 days and I programmed one day. All other days automatically were programmed the same. So far I am happy with it. This thermostat had all the features I was looking for. The clock is very accurate so the heat goes on exactly when I want it. Convenient light with just a tap on the top of the unit so you can see to check or change the settings. Although some reviewers said a backing plate was included, mine did not have one. Would have been an even easier installation with a backing plate to cover the built up paint around where the larger old thermostat was mounted, but with a bit of sanding, filling holes and painting it came out looking decent. ... show more
