Frequently asked questions

These Elixir Strings stand out due to their NANOWEB Coating. This unique coating provides a smooth, natural feel that helps minimize finger squeak and other unwanted noises. Plus, the coating features anti-rust plating that extends tone life, which means your strings will sound brighter and fresher for a longer period of time.

The 'Long Scale' designation refers to the scale length of the bass. This product is designed for long scale basses, which typically have a scale length (the distance from the bridge to the nut) of 34 inches.

Gauges (.045-.105) refer to the thickness of the strings. Thicker strings (like .105) will produce a thicker, deeper tone, while the thinner strings (like .045) produce a sharper, brighter tone. This set of strings provides a range from light to medium gauge, which gives you flexibility in your bass tone.

Absolutely, these Elixir Strings are made to enhance the playing experience for all levels of bass players. Whether you’re just starting out or if you've been playing for years, you’ll appreciate the exceptional tone and feel of these strings.

  • Simply The Best
Size: Lt Medium, Long Scale (.045-.105) Style: 4 String Set Pattern Name: Strings
I’ve been playing for 50 years, and I’ve tried all the usual suspects in bass strings, but once I got my hands on Elixirs, there was no turning back, because there is literally nothing on the market quite like them. Easy on the fingers, buttery smooth and easy to play, long lasting, and consistent quality from set to set. I prefer the 45-105 (45-130 for my 5-string) nickel plated, although you can get the stainless ones if you want a brighter sound. I use them on all five the basses I use regularly (Sire V10dx, Rickenbacker 4003, Yamaha TRBX605FM 5-string, Fender MIM Deluxe Precision P/J and my 1983 Guild Pilot. I play out pretty much every week, and get great tone and life out of these strings, often going 4-6 months before I change them out. They are so playable, they actually help my play faster and more precisely, across a wide variety of music. If they aren’t using them, I tell my fellow bass players all the time: try them! I wish everything we bought was of this high, consistent quality. If you are a gigging bass player and you’re serious about your gear, they are WELL WORTH the expense. Very highly recommended. ... show more

  • Tonic for your stringed instrument
Size: Lt Medium, Long Scale (.045-.105) Style: 4 String Set Pattern Name: Strings
My primary instrument is a Tobias Killer B 4 string bass guitar, I also play electric and acoustic guitars. I've have been playing since 1975. I played professionally for several years, at this time, I only play recreationally. I have used many brands of strings over the years, I had settled on D'Addario XL's but was constantly having to change sets to maintain the desired tone. They'd last for three to four days and were done. A fellow bass player suggested trying a set of Elixirs, but at the time I wasn't playing that often so I had a hard time justifying the extra expense for them. Awhile later I purchased a used Ibanez SR bass. It was five years old and still had the original strings on it. They still sounded great! In fact it was at least four more months before I changed them, only because they were getting a bit fuzzy. So I tried another set having been impressed with their warm balanced tone and exceptional durability. I have tried some other brands coated strings but so far have not found any others I would recommend. None have exhibited the longevity of the Elixirs. In my experience they are lasting about three months and I play at least 1-2 hrs. a day. Yes they are more expensive initially but will save you quite a bit of money in no time. I am not going to write at length about their tone because it is so subjective. I will say I find it to be completely acceptable. Not overly bright but clear and warm. I would characterize it like a just "broken in" tone that just stays there. I also have equipped both my 12 and 6 string acoustics with elixirs and am very satisfied with the tone and again exceptional durability. I use EB Super Slinkys on the electric guitars. I would recommend Elixirs to anyone, pro or novice. ... show more

  • Best set of strings I've tried so far!
Size: Lt Medium, Long Scale (.045-.105) Style: 4 String Set Pattern Name: Strings
I was skeptical because I've always bought ernie ball slinkys everytime I needed new strings. But I wasn't getting that musicman tone out of my stingray. So I bought these to shake things up a bit and let me tell you, it did not dissapoint. I can adjust my bass and treble knobs to play funk, rock, jazz, or pop. Anything! If you've been on the fence about trying some new or different strings I highly recommend these! ... show more

  • Best strings, will never use anything else
Size: Lt, Long Scale (.045-.130) Style: 5 String Set Pattern Name: Strings
I’d always used DRs which were fine but then a bandmate who used to play bass gifted these to me, and wow. I am blown away by the tone and longevity of these strings. I’m on month 7 without changing them, they look like dirty beat up old strings at this point but still sound great. A couple different sound guys have told me they love my bass tone in the past couple months. Elixirs nail that perfect goldilocks zone between warm and bright. I’ll probably get some new ones soon, obviously they are brighter at first but quickly settle into that awesome tone zone. Nice to have found the perfect strings instead of “good enough” and always wondering if something better is out there. One less thing to GAS over. ... show more

  • Great Strings... A bit slick
Size: Lt., Long Scale (.045-.100) Style: 4 String Set Pattern Name: Strings
I am a 35 year veteran of bass and have used GHS Bass Boomers for as long as I can remember. Was looking some strings that would last longer and not get gunned up by my plucking fingers. These work very well and the sound is fantastic. Rich lows, bright highs, and solid mids. The only thing I'm getting used to is they are a bit slick. I play mainly a four string with very well dressed frets. The low E can slip off the neck if I'm playing aggressively or fast and don't pay attention where the Bass Boomers didn't. It seems the slickness if the coating may make that easier to do so I'm trying to adjust because I absolutely love the sound of these strings. ... show more
