We have made ice cream twice in tropical flavors that you can't get from a store. It's a great value and easy to use. It comes with complete instructions that are so detailed, it's easy to overlook how very simple it is. There's a booklet with recipes for not only ice cream, but frozen yogurt, gelato, and sherbet. The first batch we made, it was delicious but the volume of ice cream was low, about the same as the volume of ingredients we added so we were not disappointed, just surprised. The next batch, we increased the proportion of heavy whipping cream and let it churn longer than the recommended 30 minutes. It doubled in size!! We are still working on the last pint! Re cost effectiveness...if you are happy with low-priced regular flavor ice cream, there's nothing wrong with that. We're lucky to live in an international community where we can buy exotic flavors of ice cream (e.g., ube, mango, etc), but it's very expensive. In some communities you can't get those flavors at all. With this machine, over time we will save money because it's cheaper to make than buy and the machine will pay for itself. One thing I'm looking forward to is making ice cream with a higher protein content (with Greek yogurt) and less sugar. The machine gives you the freedom to meet your own dietary needs, depending on your goals. You can even make vegan frozen treats.     • Not Elite, Not Gourmet — Just a Waste of Money!!! DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT

I purchased the Elite Gourmet brand ice cream maker in August of 2022 and have only used it five times, four if count using the motor. After the second use, the nameplate fell off, and the metal around the bucket was already coming loose. That should have been a warning sign, but I gave it the benefit of the doubt since that was mostly cosmetic. By the fifth use, the motor stopped working. The power light came on, but the motor would not run. I had to churn the ice cream by hand, and then the handle broke off while doing that! I only make ice cream once or twice a summer, so this unit was barely used. My previous machine lasted 18 years — this one failed after just a few light uses across three summers. Also, It arrived in a plain brown box with no instructions. I knew how to use it, but the lack of basic documentation felt careless and cheap. I now see many reviews mentioning motor failure, and I can confirm: THEY ARE VALID!!! In summary, there is NOTHING “Elite” about this product! It is overpriced, poorly built, and completely unreliable. I regret not returning it sooner. Actually, I regret giving my money for this product. Save your money. Buy something else. ... show more

Absolutely love this! Works fantastic and sooo easy to use and clean. Very quiet compared to my old one. Thinking on making this my Christmas to my family this year because now it’s like I am making ice cream constantly. My whole family loves it Made a simple vanilla batch today. While reading the recipe I noticed the ingredients would no way test the capacity of the mixing cylinder. So I doubled it and proceeded. Maybe filled it half way. But I wanted to get an ice cream maker that would make enough to last a while. Dessert for breakfast and lunch deserve a try right? Easy to clean up. The electric motor fit well and sounded strong enough. I didn't run it until it stopped on its own. I guessed a little earlier than the instructions suggested and employed the old hand crank. The hand crank goes on the opposite way than I first tried. I thought there was going to be a problem. I must have overlooked that part of the instruction. Maybe explaining it would be confusing. Suffice it to say when you attempt to place the hand on the wooden tub, it only goes on one way. The tub was easy to clean. I rinsed it quite thoroughly. I did fill it with water two hours before my ice cream making process per the instructions so the water would get the wooden tub's material to expand. It still leaked a bit at the base inside the space that is out of site. But it was maybe a half cup of salted water. I expect this leaking issue will decrease or go away all together after a few more uses. Little assembly necessary. Just a Phillips screw drive for the screw in the hand crank handle. I tightened the screws for the hardware that holds the hand crank/electric crank since the screw driver was at the ready. After this first use I can say so far so good.
