  • A bumpy beginning but wow, what a printer!
The media could not be loaded. I first received the Elegoo Neptune 4 Max about 2 weeks ago. I had to print a part for a prototype that my almost 10 year old CR10 was not large enough for, so I ordered in the Max. Assembly was straightforward enough, no real issues there. My issues came with updating the firmware. I had watched reviews online and had seen many mentions of “the blob of death” where basically filament gets trapped inside of the extruder head and ruins it. This was caused by an earlier firmware that had some issues and this has since being rectified by newer firmware. I saw that my printer was still on the old firmware so I went to update. After attempting the update, the printer was stuck on the loading screen and would never boot up. I almost started the return process at this point as I was a bit frustrated, although, I’m glad I didn’t. I contacted Elegoo through Amazon to get support. They were very helpful and after a small bit of troubleshooting they had a new chip and screen, (both with the updated firmware) on the way to me. The updated parts made it to me in 1 week, not bad for shipping from the other side of the globe. I immediately set in on the install of the new chip. While no instructions were provided, it was a simple enough procedure. I laid this massive printer on its back so I could see all of the Allen screws on the bottom. I used a drill with an Allen bit on this part, it would definitely take quite some time with a regular Allen wrench. As I started removing the screws, I noticed there were two types, long and short. I simply put a small bit of masking tape next to each hole where to the short screws came out to ensure I put the correct screws in the correct spots upon reassembly. All screws removed, I pulled loose the cover and disconnected the fan attached to it. Then you can see the chip that needs replaced. Two Phillips screws hold it in place. Rock the chip gently and bring it out, pop in the new one, replace the screws, plug back in the fan and put all of those screws back in place. I then simply plugged in the new touchscreen. After that, I flipped the switch hoping it was successful. It was! After heating up and leveling the massive bed (please be sure to heat up the bed and let it cook for like 20-30 minutes before leveling) I loaded up my filament and started a print. I don’t know what you guys are using for printers now but let me say, going from my decade old CR10 to this Neptune 4 Max was like going from an econo car to a Ferrari! I was seriously blown away by the speed. The video I have attached is from its first run, a benchy. The quality is great, even printing at around 250mm/s. The huge removable print bed surface makes removing prints so easy! Putting it back in place is a bit daunting though as there is not any guides, you just eyeball it. I may print something that will act as a backstop to assist in laying it back down. A rough start with what ended up being a fantastic experience and I am truly enjoying this printer. The scale at which I can print now is amazing. The speed is amazing. It’s quiet for how big of fans it has. Leveling is easy. Also, great customer service! ... show more

  • Don't waste your time or money
Unit started hotend dug into build plate. Wasted a whole roll of PLA and never did get a comeplete print. I have several other 3d printers so this wasnt my first. Then played a week of email snail tag with Elegoo Support which was horrible. Now I have to wait 30 days for the return and credit from Amazon who was also no help. So I just went to Anycubic site and ordered the Kobra 2 max same price which is what I should of done first. The Elegoo has 4 bed leveling thumb screws that have to be adjusted almost ever use. Whole leveling process takes about 20 min. Total waste of time. Kobra 2 max has no hand leveling all automatic and a bigger build plate. Never did get the Wifi working on the Elegoo even after several back and forth with support. The documents that Elegoo's tech support sent were horrible looked like they were snap shops of a competer screen. Totally unreadable. Finally gave up and sent it back. Update 3 weeks and still no refund. Amazon has been horrible, they emailed 12 days ago and said it would be issued in 5-7 days. Lied. Today they could not shed any light on refund. Filed dispute with credit card. Due to size of package 36x36 even UPS drivers didnt want to deal with it. 3 day delivery took 16 days. 10 days showed delayed by carrier. ... show more

  • Definitely Not for the Feint of heart
If you want plug and Play this ain't it chief. I have had this for a month now. I am a complete beginner but I did my due diligence research online before I bought this and knew what I was getting into. With that said it didn't take but a couple hours to get it set up and running to create the first test print with the included test PLA. I wouldn't say it's easy to assemble but if you've ever put together furniture this won't be any harder. Nice solid frame, this is a bedslinger as they say, so be sure you have room for it. The print area is very large and I very much like it that it was exactly what I got it for. Have printed quite a bit with it and have only had to readjust the leveling once. Firmware upgrade is definitely a nightmare if you are not familiar with old school way of doing things. At the end of it, if you are persistent and do your research first, this is definitely a wonderful printer that creates high quality prints. Notice that If you just buy it expecting it to work you're going to rate this one star out of frustration. Was definitely worth what I paid to get the print area I have. ... show more

  • Don’t buy Elegoo printers
I had a brand new printer and I thought, “I’ll update the firmware before I start fine tuning.” You know, like you do for almost every device these days. Well, now I have a printer that doesn’t function and I get to look forward to 3-4 hours of troubleshooting, command lines, and possibly spending more money on a thing that will hopefully fix the problem if I’m lucky! The worst part is that I can’t even blame the poorly written instructions on how to install the 3 firmware updates and fixes on this issue it would seem that the updates are the problem! Hopefully I can get this fixed and working again but Elegoo really should be ashamed at how difficult it is to update firmware and how easy it is to brick this machine (and what I can only assume is the same or worse on their other printers since the Neptune 4 is the latest greatest). Only two days into owning this printer and I can already say I will never buy another Elegoo product. ... show more
