  • 6 month review - I really, really like it.
Color: DARK GRY Size: 27.5 inch
I bought my Paselec GS9 last September and it's now March, so this counts as a long-term review. After six months the bike is holding up great and I still look forward to every ride. For the price, I don't think I could have done better. Naturally, nothing is perfect, so here is a list of my pros & cons: Pros: 1) I bought the black model and am pleasantly surprised that it doesn't look like an e-bike. It looks like a regular mountain bike. 2) Hydraulic brakes. My first bike with hydraulic brakes. Once you've tried them, you'll never go back to regular brakes. 3) My first bike with dual-suspension and it makes a difference, even on paved trails. 4) Service is excellent. I had a couple of minor issues and when I emailed Paselec support with my questions, they responded quickly and helpfully. 5) The tires are wonderful. 6) It comes with 9 speeds. I've noticed that most bikes at this price point have 7 speeds. The 2 extra gears make a difference. Cons: 1) Not really a con, but I am 6'1'' in my biking shoes. The bike fits my height comfortably, but only just. Maybe it'll work for you if you are 6'2", but beyond that look elsewhere. 2) If you want to charge the battery inside, you have to lay the bike down to remove it. A pain, but not a deal-breaker. 3) Because of the shock absorber, there isn't enough room on the frame to mount a water bottle. 4) Save yourself some grief and buy some quality titanium stem bolts (M3x18mm) to replace the cheap aluminum ones they include. It'll make assembly and maintenance much easier. Overall, this is a terrific bike and how Paselec can sell it at this price eludes me. ... show more

  • 2nd EBike from Paselec
Color: DARK GRY Size: 27.5 inch
Well this is our second passed EBike. My husband uses this as his daily transportation to work for 20 miles total a day. The bike has been pretty amazing overall. Customer service has been pretty helpful in trying to replace parts as they start to break down. The only major issue that we repeatedly had to deal with was the battery life only tended to last 3-6 months at most. So that was a constant expense when you use it daily. Also brakes needed to be replaced frequently and it can be a struggle to find specialists that know enough about electric bikes. We had to troubleshoot a lot on our own. But we did have a good experience and decided to purchase a second bike cause the first is now two years old and in need of maintenance. Well we ordered the same bike and now this new bike doesn’t have cruise control?! This is a deal breaker for my husband. Paselec….why are the speed controls different on this bike yet when you read the manual for setting up cruise control it doesn’t work!!!??? How can we fix this???? ... show more

  • If a hill takes longer than 3 min to climb. This won't make it.
Color: DARK GRY Size: 27.5 inch
After reading reviews about this bike I decided to spend a little more than what I originally was planning to. After using it for one day I noticed good and bad things about it. The Bad: I mainly use this for commuting 21 miles to work. With one section being a 3/4 mile 20% uphill grade. That's where this bike has trouble. My first day riding it, as soon as I got about 200 feet up the hill, the motor shut off and the display read "Error 26" so I had to turn off the bike and after 5 mins I restarted and continued up the hill. I got maybe another minute of riding time and it shut down again. This happened 8 times the whole way up the hill. Which is very frustrating. I read this is a common occurrence with these tier bikes. So to get around this I had to take another route that was 11 miles longer. To make the battery last that long, I had to keep it on PAS3 the whole time. And with that I barely make it to work before it starts flashing empty. To make matters worse, on the second day riding I got a flat. After checking the tube when I got home. I didn't notice any holes. and it was holding air, but the next day it went flat again. So it must be a small crack by the valve stem. The Good: It looks nice and I get compliments on it when I ride. It came well wrapped and packaged. It was pretty easy to assemble. Just had to attach pedals, handle bars, front wheel and lights. It was intuitive of where everything went. Being able to fit on my rack was a plus. On PAS5 I got the bike up to 30mph on flat roads. and 36mph going downhill. All in all it's a good bike, but looking back it wasn't what I needed it for. I would've gotten another style of bike instead if I knew that there would be so much problems with going up hill. Update: 2 days after I wrote the first review I got another flat. This time the back tire. So far I've had a flat in both tires in the 5 times I've ridden it. Update #2 After 400 miles on ODO. The throttle gave out. So now I have to constantly pedal it. The throttle was useful when starting from a red light, since I use this as my commuter bike to work. Luckily customer service was very helpful in sending me a replacement and since it happened while still under warranty, it was free of charge. I have to acknowledge they have a very good and responsive customer service dept. After using this bike for 7 months, I'm thinking I should have went with something else that was more reliable. Update #3 So after 1 year and over 1200 miles on ODO. I can't use the throttle more than 5 min without it giving me the error 26 code. And this is on a flat surface road. So I have to turn off the bike and let it cool off for a few min before turning it back on to resume my ride. This happens at least 15 times during my 21 mile ride each way. So needless to say it's infuriating. In conclusion- the only reason I gave it 2 stars is because of their good customer service. But it doesn't make it up for the fact that I can't really use the throttle feature on the bike. And even when I'm peddling it still errors out after 20 min or so. If I knew about this problem. I would definitely have not purchased this bike. ... show more

  • Parts don't match, number out of service
Color: DARK GRY Size: 27.5 inch
The bike comes unassembled (which isn't mentioned) and with parts that don't match each other. I called customer service and kept getting a busy signal/out of service notification. It's not just a defective product that made this such a bad purchase. It's the time and effort I put into affording this product, on top of the amount of time and effort I put into assembling it, all just to spend more time and effort unassembeling and repacking it. Now I have to wait for the refund, order another bike and wait once again. When I say wait I don't mean siting around. I mean walking 7 miles to work and 7 miles back, just like I've been doing since my bus route is no longer running. Getting this bike should have been a highlight to a really rough time, instead it's just one more thing taking up my time and effort while I'm already pretty maxed out on both. ... show more
