  • This Machine is a BEAST
Style: w/2.5Ah Battery, Powerload
September 22, 2024 I assembled this machine on April 13, 2024 and started using it shortly thereafter. I bought it to replace my Echo SRM-225 which I have used since June 2013. I bought this particular EGO model after reading great reviews about it. Both devices are used solely at my home. As this is my first battery powered piece of lawn equipment, I wanted to see how it handled several concerns that I had upon making the switch from gasolene to battery power, the first being just how it handled generally. I have to say that it handles very well. It is noticeably lighter than my old Echo and significantly quieter. It does a very good job of cutting the grass in either standard trimming such as along a fence line as well as along mulched areas where I have to hold it upside down. As there are more mulched areas than regular in my yard this second position is important to me and the EGO does very well in both areas. I have to say however that the inverted position is a little more cumbersome to me, but not a deal breaker. The second concern was how the EGO would handle a roughly 920 square foot area beyond the back boundary of my yard that contains weeds alongside a farm field. I go back there several times each summer to clean up the area. The EGO is excellent in this wild service actually better than my gas-powered Echo. This machine really goes after it. There’s more than enough power. It did have some problems with some big (3/8” diameter) Queen Ann’s Lace that I encountered on my most recent time in the field, but for the most part it was up to the task. This is the service where it earned the “BEAST” moniker. The third concern dealt with the auto-feed feature of replacing the line. I’ve only had to do so once so far, but it worked slicker than snot. So much easier to replace than my old Echo ever was. My final concern was battery charge life. There’s more than enough charge in the battery to do my whole yard, including the wild area in the back to do everything on a single charge. It also only takes a short time to fully re-charge. I always do the trimming before running the mowers so when done I put the battery on charge while mowing. It’s always fully ready to go by the time I’m done mowing. I don’t need to keep it on charge when away from the garage. The battery holds the charge very well too. We’ve been having a drought, particularly over the last month or so and I’ve let it set for about 6 weeks. When I used it this past week there was more than enough charge to do the whole yard with no problem. I’m extremely happy with this machine. ... show more

  • Ego makes quality stuff.
Style: w/2.5Ah Battery, Powerload
I'm a firm believer that if you can decide on a specific brand of battery operated equipment, try hard to buy just that brand so you may interchange batteries and chargers where permitted by manufacturer. With this said, I stick with 2 brands that I've had excellent luck with and cover different areas of use mostly, just a little overlap. The 2 brands (I have no deal with these brands, just like them because of my experience with them) I believe in are DeWalt and Ego. In this case my latest purchase was this weedtrimmer. It has great features and I am very impressed with the power it has and how long it operates on a charge. My favorite feature is filling up the spool with trimmer line. Ego has made this process one of if not the easiest to do in the industry! It holds a lot of line and being battery operated, is nice and quiet. I live right along side a field and every once and a while I need to cut it back some to not interfere with my cutting of the grass in my own yard. When doing this, every once in awhile you run across a small whip of a start of a tree. Obviously the line isn't going to cut through this but it also doesn't stop the Ego. It just hammers away til I backoff and cut around these saps. This Ego unit is on the line between homeowner and commercial quality. It's highend homeowner and takes the same battery and charger that I already have for other Ego products like the Leaf Blower for example. Even if I would get a Ego 2 Stage Snow Blower some day, they all take the same battery and charger. So if you have a large project going on, and a battery runs out... you have more charged batteries to grab and go on with. In my opinion, one of the greatest features of sticking with a brand. In my own opinion I believe you get excellent value for your money buying these 2 brands. Oh, and as far as durability, my leaf blower was the first Ego purchase I made years ago and I'm still using it and the battery and charger that came with it! ... show more

  • Best equipment purchase ever!
Style: w/2.5Ah Battery, Powerload
These are awesome! I was a sceptic about electric. I own allot of gas equipment. We have over four acres of land that needs clearing every year by our fire dept. In our town in Ca the fire dept puts a $10,000 lean on your place if they dont like the way you fid weed abatement! I bought two Ego power 15” string trimmers with carbon handles and 2 Ego power 5 amp hr battery's. They worked awesome. Im impressed. They are tuff! To spool new cutting line is so easy and high tech. Manual is not good at all. Just cut a 14’ length of cutting line. Stick it in one hole on trimming head where line comes out, feed it in until it comes out other hole. Then pull both ends of cutting line so they are both 7feet from string trimmer head. Make them equal length 7’ on each side of trimmer spool. Then with battery in trimmer push green button on back of trimmer spool head ( Not power trigger) . And click click click! It auto spools the cutting line. Let go of green button when 7 inches are left. The manual is a joke! Not good at all. But the equipment is awesome. I bought two of these. And a blower, and the ego power head with a brush cutter attachment ANF a pole saw attachment. Then i bought the Ego Power 16”? Chain saw. This is the BEST equipment purchase i have made in years. It cost a arm and leg for 5amp Hr battery's, but after that you’re all good to go. I use the 2.5amp hr battery's while 5am hrs are charging. I love yard work again! And now more $500 repairs, on my gas equipment yearly, and gas, noise, smell of exhaust. These do better and zero maintenance. And light to carry and hold. Just buy these! They are awesome. Dont loose the allen wrench and screws that come with it. ... show more

  • Delivers the goods
Style: w/2.5Ah Battery, Powerload
I bought this trimmer because of many good reviews online--both written and video versions comparing it to other cordless trimmers. The price on Amazon was the best available anywhere I could find. It shipped immediately from Amazon (which doesn't always happen as I am not a Prime member) and was received in just a few days. I assembled the unit (super easy) and took it out for some work shortly thereafter. This tool works very well. I don't care for the job of whacking weeds, but this unit did an excellent job and was easy to control (good trigger mechanism allows for very good speed control--you don't always need to blast at high speed). I also have a Stihl (gas) FS 56 trimmer which is noticeably heavier. That one is set up with a blade, not string like this one. It wears me out and I'm concerned about sparks from the blade when you nick a rock as we are in a high hazard zone for wildfires. I wanted something more easily controllable for my lightweight frame. This unit meets those needs. As much as I like Stihl products, this unit for the weeds is an easier tool to deal with. We don't have the density of vegetation (southern Rockies, forested hillside) that folks in the Midwest or East probably have, so you don't run this thing as continuously as you might in those environs. So my body wore out before the battery did. I'm not sure I'd want to be out working on weeds for as long as this battery will last. It also charges back up very quickly. Overall, a good sturdy unit that lives up to the hype. But ultimately, you're still having to whack weeds. And that's the only downside. Definitely recommended. ... show more

  • Very impressive electric trimmer
Style: w/2.5Ah Battery, Powerload
I mow just under 4 acres and so far in two years I've never been able to complete all the trimming that needs to be done each week. Upgrading from a cordless Black and Decker, I am hoping this EGO trimmer is going to be a game changer in my trimming game. This evening was my first time using the EGO trimmer and so far it hasn't been the best of experiences. The line got caught up in the spindle about 15 minutes into trimming. I spent way more time than I should figuring out how to pop open the cap, take out the string and then reload the string. Reloading actually went pretty smoothly once I realized a black spring had fallen out and needed to be put back under the cap. After walking all the way back out to where I left off, the battery ran out about 5 - 10 minutes later. Just guessing but I think that battery lasted about 25 - 30 minutes total on the first charge. But in that half hour I trimmed around way more than I ever could have in a whole week with my old cordless trimmer. I put the battery back on the charger and went back mowing. I saw it was already fully charged when I parked the mower, but it was getting too dark to see to trim. I will have to try my luck with the trimmer again tomorrow. So far I am very impressed with the power of this trimmer. I find this trimmer is very well balanced when using the EGO shoulder strap with it. This is my first straight shaft trimmer and I am already in love with the longer shaft because I don't have to bend over to trim with it (my back says thank you). I used up a lot of string trimming around large rocks before I realized the trimmer has a variable speed trigger and slower speeds used less string. If all goes without complications tomorrow, I will probably change this review to 5 stars. I have ordered a leaf blower with battery and charger for only $10 more than the cost of a buying a spare battery without a charger. Seems like a no brainer choice if a person wants a spare battery for their trimmer. Once that leaf blower comes in I think I'll have more than enough run time to keep up with all my trimming needs. Update (5/18/2021) - After several outings with this trimmer, I will have to say the battery life of a single battery is more than adequate. Having reloaded string in the trimmer a few times, it proves to be super easy now that I have the hang of it. My only gripe would be the trimmer should have come with an included shoulder strap. ... show more

  • Best Trimmer
Style: w/2.5Ah Battery, Powerload
This is a powerful trimmer and it's made very well. When fully charged the battery has enough power to do all the trimming. If not fully charged I have to stop in the middle to recharge it. What is great is it starts easy and does not pollute, no gas/oil mixture. No pulling your arm apart to get it started. Just a flick of the switch and you're on the way. The BEST thing is the installation of the trimmer wire is automatic! Just cut a piece to 13 feet long, thread it though the spool and hit the wind button. I LOVE IT. The only drawback for me is the trimmer is a bit on the heavy side. The handle has to be adjusted in a way that the trimmer is balanced because the battery is fairly heavy. So between the weight and the need to balance its is a tiring for me. On the whole, it makes trimming much more pleasant than using a gas powered trimmer. ... show more

  • Lightweight, easy to use
Style: w/2.5Ah Battery, Powerload
Bought this weedwacker so I can help hubby keep up the property. A year later, I still love using it. I recommend getting a strap for it but it’s not too heavy and does a great job. Easy to use. Hubby now prefers mine over his gas one!

  • Great cordless weed wacker
Style: w/2.5Ah Battery, Powerload
I’ve been using this for the last year and also bought a corded weed wacker as well for the larger areas in my yard, so have been comparing the two. The pros: heavy duty double line coupled with high power motor that cuts through heavy weeds easily; the line feed system works well for the most part (see later comment). The cons: it’s a battery (duh) so you only have a finite amount of time (with the medium sized Ego battery, I get about 10-15 minutes worth of cutting for each battery) so if you have a lot of area to cover, it can be a bit tedious; with the battery, it’s heavy, certainly compared to the corded weed wacker; the line feed does put a lot of line out each time, so you can go through some line over time. I also love the corded weed wacker I have - it’s a lot lighter in weight, and I can do large areas without having to switch batteries. The downside is that it only has a single line, which has a big effect on cutting power, so when I hit heavier weeds, it doesn’t work quite as well. The other one also has an auto feed for the line, which I don’t particularly love - you can go through a LOT of line given it’s a lighter line and it’s auto-feeding whenever it breaks. So to net it out, I think the Ego works great if you have heavier weeds and have a smaller area to work on (or you don’t have easy access to an outlet). If you have a LOT of weeds to deal with, a corded wacker will work better both in terms of weight as well as not having to swap batteries regularly. ... show more
