The Select Cut Multi-Blade Cutting System is equipped with three interchangeable lower blades: the Mulching Blade, High Lift Bagging Blade, and Extended Runtime Blade. The Mulching Blade comes installed on the lawn mower and is ideal for weekly mulching, giving you the mulching quality expected from a high-end gas lawn mower. The Extended Runtime Blade provides an optimal balance of cut quality and runtime for all around performance. All three blades can be used interchangeably based on your desired cut. The Upper Blade is used in combination with the lower blade chosen to slice the grass into fine fragments, greatly enhancing cutting performance with all grass types. EGO Touch Drive self-propelled technology puts complete control of the self-propel system in the palm of your hands by using pressure to engage the system. • Different from a gas mower but met all my expectations
After using the EGO cordless power mower a month I know I made the right choice. It does all that I expected. Some things are different from the gas-powered walk-behind beast I’ve used for 40 years, all for the better. It’s light and maneuverable, cuts well, the controls are well designed , and the battery life is the industry’s best. The last point is really why I bought it. At my advanced age I was glad how easy it is to push it around the yard. I bought the self-propelling version thinking I would need it most of the time as was the case with my gas-powered brush mower, a powerful, heavy beast. But not so with the EGO! On even gently uphill grades I push it just fine. I only use the self-propel feature for 10-15% of the time. (Pushing also gives me good aerobic exercise without the cost, time, and air pollution to drive 10 miles to the nearest gym. Just sayin’.) This mower's design is so intuitive you don’t need to read the manual to understand the controls - but the manual is also well written and full of good tips. Read it. A simple dead-man lever controls the power. It’s super easy to adjust the cutting height. The self-propulsion is activated with just a thumb-push from one hand, and there’s a dial to adjust the forward speed too. I can work around tight corners by controlling and steering from the side, then fall in behind when the way is clear. The seven positions for the cutting height give superb flexibility from low to high cutting positions with a simple hand move. If the grass grows too high too fast I just cut a notch higher. The motor will stop if the grass is too dense for the mower, to avoid overheating. If that happens, I just move the cutting height a notch higher and resume mowing. Battery charge is good for “up to” 80 minutes of “light duty use”. I get more like 60 minutes, but I am using the self-propel feature for 10%-15% of the time and its spring now when the grass grows too tall way too fast. Maybe in August I’ll get 80 minutes as the growth rate slows and I’m clipping less than an inch instead of 2+ or more. I used to mow my acre+ yard in 3 hours with the gas beast. Now it me takes three one-hour sessions with breaks between sessions to recharge the battery. I just do something else for an hour while the battery charges. The alternative would be to buy a second battery for $200 and recharge one while using the other. I found that using this mower turns out to be more about finesse than power. It doesn’t bull through deep grass like a heavy gas mower. Adjust the height, or go slower. Like the manual says. Don’t mow wet grass. Like the manual says. Those conditions tend to clog the blade housing. If your style is to bull ahead against all obstacles, you must learn a new way. The circuit breaker will protect the electric motor from your bullheadedness every time. Learn to work with the tool and you’ll be a better person. Clean out the housing after every mowing. Like the manual says. And listen to the mower subtly changing sounds as the load varies. That can tell you when it’s about to shut off due to heavy load. Listen, learn, and enjoy zen-like harmony with your new instrument. ... show more

  • Bullseye!
Style: Lawn Mower w/2-10.0Ah Batteries, Select Cut
First, a bit of history - the unfiltered exhaust of a gas mower always made me ill fast so I opted for a push mower back in the day, even with a pretty big yard. When corded electric mowers came along, I jumped. Once you get the hang of managing the cord, it works pretty well. Back in 2017, I bought a cordless mower. After struggling with first mow, took it back and bought another corded mower. Before my first mow with the EGO, I was super concerned about battery life. I bought the package with the 2 10Ah batteries and fast charger. Charged the batteries up and installed the high lift lower blade. Front and back yards add up to about a quarter acre. I chose to not use the self propulsion. The EGo is surprisingly nimble for its weight and easy to push. Finished all in 45 minutes less time with ease. High lift blade picked up tons of loose leaves too. Emptied about 2x the amount of clippings as usual. On top of it all, used only about 25% juice. I put the battery back in the charger before I edged and cleaned up. By the time I was done, it was full. All I got to say is wow. Comparing to the Tesla seems spot on after this first mow. Having the extra battery and fast charger, I immediately bought the backpack blower to replace the old B&D corded one I have owned going on 30 years now. Refuses to quit, but is heavier than all get-out and I am an old dude now. Hope this review helps. ... show more

  • Not perfect, but better than gas
Style: LM2156SP Lawn Mower w/10Ah Battery
I have an EGO leaf blower and line trimmer, and like their products. My new lawn mower is no exception. This thing really does have power, stronger than my past few gas mowers (Craftsman). More than enough for dry, heavy (but not crazy) grass. It definitely made full width cuts at normal speed in sections that always get really heavy on my lawn that used to make me take half width cuts with my gas mower so it wouldn't die out or make me stop until it got back to speed. It is just SO much easier to just press a button and go, and a LOT less dramatic cutting the lawn without all the noise and vibration. I wouldn't go so far as to say it makes it fun, but it is a lot better than it used to be. It does a nice job cutting the lawn and leaves it looking great. I also like the easily adjustable variable speed, and especially like the fact that you can use the self-propelled feature without having the blades spinning. A feature I never would have thought of, but it sure comes in handy when traveling across a street or driveway, running over debris, or just getting to your starting point - or back to the garage. The only thing that would make this better, would be more battery life. My yard is not all that big, and I have the 10-amp battery, but it was not able to finish the whole thing. I did have some heavy grass, so was dipping into the 'extra power' on numerous occasions. I also am using it as a mulcher which cuts battery life a lot, and also used the self-propelled mode just about 100% of the time. I have more batteries, so it was not a problem, but it would have been cool if I could bring a second battery along with me instead of going back to the garage and getting another. The batteries DO charge up pretty quickly, especially with the Turbo charger, so I feel you could pretty much go non-stop with 3 (or even 2 with more efficient mowing techniques) batteries. My other negative comment has to do with backing up after propelling forward, especially if you are going back and forth in an area. Occasionally it would lock the wheels, and I would tap the throttle quickly to let it freely roll backward. I admit that could be operator error, or at least education, so I don't count it as too much of a flaw. None of that matters much though, when you push a button and go cut your lawn, in a relaxed, much quieter environment. No filling gas cans, changing oil, fowling plugs, clogging air filters, etc. Sure, I'd like it to be even better, but it is already at the top of electric mowers, which have, or will, revolutionize how we mow our lawns. ... show more
