Size: O1000 RTK
I once owned a Robomow R500 several years ago, an old perimeter wire robotic mower and loved it. But after repairing breaks in the wire, several battery replacements (lead acid), you learn. What I liked about it was it had three streel blades each about 8in long and angled down. It could cut through really thick tall grass and it had a wide cutting area. I ran that for close to 10years. We named it "Curly" for Moe (mow), Larry and Curly. It eventually went to storage. So my wife gave me permission to buy a new one. So after a lot of looking, I wanted an RTK (hi-fidelity GPS) based model with some AI and computer vision smarts. One that showed up on my radar was the Ecovac GOAT O10000 RTK. It did everything the Mammotion Luba (my first choice), but the O1000 had a more budget friendly price. My biggest concern with the O10000 was the size and robustness of the single blade systems; the small cut size, and the 3 razor disk. After a couple of weeks of use now I can relax some. I've replaced the blades set once already but maybe could have gotten a few more cuts; the size of those blades seems to be standardized so no issue. The Ecovac app works well with the GOAT O1000 although it takes a while to learn. For example, I have a Front yard, back yard, behind the garage yard and the side of the house yard. The backyard is enclosed with a chainlink fence. So I needed a path that would connect the front-yard, (sections; I split it into 2 zones seperated by the front sidewalk) and side-yard so I created that joined all of those. One charge will get the the front and another will get will get the back. What is so amazing, is once it's all mapped out and connected with the path the robot is all automatic. It mows it all in straight lines (you set the angle) and it can be scheduled to do all automatic. It is impressive how well it works. Sharp blades cut nice lawns so the results have been great. The charging takes about 1 1/2-2hr for 100%. So on mowdays (I'm mowing every 2days) I have zone(3)(2)(1) for the morning, then a 2hr rest (charge time), then zone(4) for the last time. It's amazingly automatic and more or less hassle free. The only hassles I've had was the initial setup. In my first attempt, I place the robot under my steps hiding it from the weather... but that was a no-no. The robot itself needs to see clean GPS signals (regardless of the RTK pole). So having the robot base (charger) away from buildings or overhanging structures is important. While it has a generous amount of wire from the charge station to the power transformer, you need an outlet for it. I had one available but still needed a waterproof extension cord from the outlet to the power transformer. It's all water proof so no problem, leaving everything uncovered. Anyway, once you get it all setup, you use the phone app (android or apple) to map the zones. It has automapping so it uses AI and computer vision to find an walk next to edges. You can manually take over for other operations to direct the mapping and later do manual no-mow zones. Once done, and your zone is done, it's ready to go. Once you have zones defined, you just setup the paths connecting all you zones and your all set. I have mine doing front and side yards in pass one but it passes through the back gate. If I forget to open the gate, it simply returns to the charger base. If it's open, it just follows the path right to the front section and goes to town. So I've noticed it doesn't like tall tufts of onion-grass which is common in the "Bluegrass State" and see those as osbsticles. It handles the front yard tree well. I found it could not create a zone for a very narrow strip, it needs about 4ft width to create a zone, but mine was about 2 1/2ft. So you may still need a small mower for trimming and string trimmer. It's a great machine, and value at sub $1000 at the moment. All and all, I'm already loving the Ecovac Goat O1000 RTK advanced robotic mower. Seriously 5 star. Update: I've used now about 30+ times and I don't think I would ever go back. The lawn is looking great an I've had very few issues with it. The app software takes a little time to learn how to map your lawn and connect everything with paths. My only frustration the manually steered mode would always disengage the mower left go of the steering button So you would have to stop and re-engage the the mower blades and resume (for example if you loose Bluetooth connectivity in manual mode). I had it get stuck twice at two specific locations in my lawn (which were holes I needed to fill in my lawn). If you have bushes that over hang low to the yard, the robot will assume they are obstacles and not go under them. However, what a time saver.. The front, sides and backyards are all mapped out, and I run the 'GoatyO' about every 2 days, first doing the back, then the front and sides. The biggest issue I had was placing the RTK tower and mower in a suitable location, as it needed to be away from the house and have electricity. Both the robot and tower have to see a min of 25 satellites and at first I thought it was just the RTK tower. The other small issue is it cuts the grass shorter than I'm used to. I have it set to it's max which looks nice. I would also recommend when you do your mapping to cut and edge the grass first so that it has a clear look at the obstacles, like sidewalk edges, fences, garden edging, etc. All and all it's the best deal going. I don't ever want to go back. Beats that summer heat.

The media could not be loaded. We had been considering getting a robot mower for a while now. We have 4 children that are on the spectrum and have adhd. Getting down to each other is like going due to medical issues of myself and my husband. It is hard for us to do the yardwork. I already have had to pay an exorbitant amount to have to do the front yard and I cannot afford to pay double that to add the backyard to it. So we were considering in getting a robotic mower just to do the backyard but now we can do the front yard. Most of our front is not within the 17” incline. The small portion that is, is the ditch and my husband said he could handle it with a weed eater since the robotic mower can do the rest. Which would save us more money in the long run. Part of our issues are our kids have sensory issues. We have an electric mower because gas mowers are too loud for the kids and the smell as well. While we do have a relatively quieter electric mower than others do. They find it too loud. This brand, Ecovac has a good reputation to begin with. So I thought would start with this. It took about 20 minutes to initially set it up and that did include Unpacking everything getting an all put together instead of outside. Also included downloading, updating and installing firmware. Surprisingly, the mower came with a 57% battery. It was essentially basically like a plug-in play robotic mower. The instructions as far as putting it together were very clear. Installing the app was easy in the instructions as far as setting up the pin code and then going from the pin code and adding it to the Wi-Fi Was really just very user-friendly. And then when you went out and then set it up as far as putting everything together and getting it going and installing the firmware, it was just really you followed the prompts and that was it. The same went when you were following the mapping you just followed it step-by-step. Then it took about 10 minutes trying to figure out how to learn the mapping. I have muscle twitches and so I was having a hard time Handling the “joystick “on the app so my movements were jerky so I was having the mower spinning and going in quirky movements. So I’m gonna have my husband redo the mapping of the backyard for me but all that considering it did really well it understood what I was telling it to do surprisingly. So it is definitely easy to maneuver just takes a slight learning curve! It understood the commands that I was giving in even with my twitches and reacted very quickly we had high patches of grass in certain areas. I should’ve chosen a higher setting, giving how high the grass was so that the mower would never work as hard as it did. But it actually did cut through the grass and did not stall. In one of my photos you’ll be able to see the huge difference between the basically 6-7 inch grass and the cut that it did because I had said it for it in 2 inches when I should’ve had it 4 inches that way I could just do a second pass. The mower itself basically is at a home as far as a noise. It is very very quiet. It does not bother my children at all. The dogs are actually louder. The cutting is actually very quiet. I would say that the quietest weed eater is 50 times louder. It has really good traction even with our super dry dirt at the moment. It had zero issues moving around. It’s a really well built machine. It’s super heavy, quality made and very we’ll constructed. Definitely made for the outdoors. It’s made to get the work done. It’s meticulous in its work buts not slow it moves quickly and gets the job done well. It does have an animal lockout. Which you can turn off if you want and it does do things if it notices something. I do like that. It has the pin code so that you can have an avoidance if somebody decides to steal it then they’re locked out. Also, I like the fact that you can schedule it so that way, even if you’re gone, you can schedule it for your away and have we can just have it mowed for whenever we want and not have to worry about it which will make it so much easier for us in the long run. I don’t have to worry about my kids. I can manage allergies so much easier now. And it’s one less thing that’s knocked off my budget and one less thing that’s knocked off our scheduling. Not to mention the fact that unlike some other brands, it actually has a rain sensor on it, which was something that I don’t know how but I completely missed when I read all about it and so if it just even senses that it’s gonna be a heavy rain, it will automatically stop and not run. It’ll resume after I think like three hours or so after the rain stops. Which means I don’t have to be so paranoid about it if it happens to rain and we have stepped out. I was exceedingly surprised with this.

Really wanted this to workout for me but ran into so many issues and it ultimately ended up breaking before I could even get it to fully cut my yard. The pros: Easy simple setup, the app is easy to use and the instruction manual was easy to follow. The cons: After setup I attempted to map my backyard and the auto map just didn’t want to work, the robot would begin to follow the fence line then go full speed in a completely opposite direction and I kept having to stop it and track back to have it follow the fence line. Ended up having to manually drive it around my yard which would end in the mapping failing saying it lost connection. I confirmed the RTK and base placement which was not under anything and more than 6ft away from anything. Hours later and after maybe 6-8 failed mappings I finally got it to complete a map of my backyard. Adjuster all the settings in the app and sent it on its way to cut my yard. About a hour later I come out to it just driving around in random paths skipping patches missing weeds etc. I sent it back to it’s dock and tried multiple settings and it still kept missing spots and would sometimes just stop moving completely and say it lost connection even though it was feet away from the RTK and dock. Next day I came out to mess with it once more before calling it quits and the dock light is blinking and the robot is dead. Tried powering it on and it kept saying must charge robot to continue operation. After messing with the dock and robot some conforming clean charging connections, solid wire connections I’ve given up and cannot get it to work again. Not sure what happened but for $2000 I shouldn’t have this many issues. Returned it and will be looking into other robot mowers.
