Had to return this. The front was nice looking but the back was unattractive. It wouldn’t work for my high visibility window. It is definitely blackout though. I held it up to the window and not a smudge of light got through.

These shades are super easy to install. I don't know if they reduce noise, but they do seem to reduce heat from the sun. They look nice and are good quality. Sometimes I have a hard time getting them to lock, but it could just be me. Sometimes the handle flips and it's hard to pull. I think it's easier to pull them by the bottom, but it might get dirty over time so I try to use the handles. I just wish they were an inch bigger so there would be less gap on the edges, but I suppose that's my stupid window sizes. ... show more

The heads of the screws provided for the mounting brackets are too big - and they prevent the mounting bracket from sliding as needed when attaching the blinds. In addition - one of the plastic brackets snapped (broke) when I tried to attach the blinds to it - and that's basically a mission critical part. I tried contacting the manufacturer's customer service, but the 1-800 number just goes straight to a voicemail message that tells you that the box is full. So - I'm basically dead in the water. In terms of style and functionality, they meet all expectations. I’ve had them installed for over a year now and they are still functional with no issues. I took off two stars because of installation. These were installed with an inside mount and the screws and hardware provided couldn’t possibly work. It took a lot of trial and error to find other screws that could fit within the brackets they provided. That is a very basic requirement that should be corrected. ... show more

    • Solid shades for the money

These are good light blocking shades (color is “white”) , but probably don’t do a ton for noise. They have a grey fabric backing plus when they are down, a second white fabric backing, so I would consider them legitimate blackout shades. I don’t really see them doing any noise reduction beyond what a standard curtain does, though - if you really want to reduce noise you need to swap windows out anyways. They do let some light through the sides as you can see in the picture but again, that’s just how Roman shades work. You are trading a super low profile for a little bit of light on the sides. I plan to put on lightweight curtains on my existing rod to the side, so that will address that for me. Install was super simple, maybe 5 minutes per, plus some extra time to steam them and remove fabric wrinkles. Overall I am very happy with the shades especially with them being reasonably priced. ... show more

    • Can't even install inside mount with provided hardware

If you're installing these outside/wall mount, you should be fine. However, if you're looking to install them inside/ceiling mount (like me) you're going to need modify the mounting brackets. The brackets have a sliding plastic spring loaded block used to clip the shade rail into. The problem is that the mounting screws are round head screws and the plastic slider has ZERO clearance to be able to slide over the round screw heads once installed! This being the case, it's impossible to mount the shade rail because the block can't slide to lock the rail into place. It was a fairly simple modification to just use a Dremel to cut a little knock out to allow the block to slide over the screw head, but a < 5 minute project suddenly turned into an over 30 minute project by the time I gathered the additional tools to adapt to the issue. That said I was able to eventually get them mounted as needed, and that leads me to the next issue. The spring loaded retraction on these shades is absolutely atrocious. Give it a little tug to release it and begin retracting and it crawls unbearably slow. Even lifting the entire shade as it retracts so there's little to no weight, it still takes FOREVER. It literally takes over a whole minute to retract the shade from almost full extension to about 1/4 extension. Completely ridiculous. Aside from the functional issues, the shades do look pretty decent.....from inside the house. The back side of these shades facing out into the world is quite an eyesore so definitely not something you'd likely want to use on front facing windows or windows easily visible to the general public. Fortunately for me, these are at the back of my house where nobody will generally be seeing them and I don't plan on adjusting them often so I can live with the slow retraction. I won't be returning them, but I also definitely won't be buying more of these for other windows in my house. ... show more
