Description

It’s the industry’s first-ever earth auger powerhead designed for both 1- and 2-person operation. The Dually is ideal for everyday use on construction sites or the farm, and is the powerhead of choice for a variety of hole drilling tasks such as building decks, installing fences, soil sampling, mailbox installations, planting trees and many other outdoor projects. It boasts a 52cc, 2-cycle Viper engine that provides more than enough power to bust through extremely compact soils and clay. A rugged transmission contains long-lasting ball bearings and hardened steel gears that will withstand a lifetime of heavy use. Welded steel Jobsite handlebars fully encase the engine, providing superior protection from drops, falls, and everyday abuse. Comfortable foam grips limit vibration and ensure a user- friendly operating experience. Equipped with two independent throttles, an operator can control the engine from either the single or 2-person operating position. Each throttle provides variable speed control, allowing for slow control when starting a hole, and then ramp up to full power as you drill deeper. With a 7/8” smooth shaft earth auger connection point, this unit pairs with any Earthquake 7/8” smooth shaft earth auger bit (sold separately). I was a little hesitant to buy this used but when it arrived the unit appeared to have never been used. The box was completely destroyed but no a scratch on the unit. Dug 52 poles 36 inches deep for a fence project. This thing kept running and worked just fine. I would say if you doing a project as big as I did I would recommend renting a dingo instead but if your no in a hurry this will get the job done. Once you get past two feet I recommend having someone else help lift it out of the hole and also getting an extension to save your back. ... show more

    • Great tool.
Quick review to say that if you're going to be putting in your own fencing, planting trees, adding posted signage, etc you NEED an auger. This particular one, fitted with the 8" bit, preformed fabulously, easily drilling through heavy (wet) TN clay. This past weekend we put in 28 4x4x6 posts, dug the holes for 20 trees, and will be adding about 10 more posts in another area of the yard next week. The only strain on this auger was upon hitting tree roots which we managed to power through. Excellent value and made these labor-intensive jobs much easier! ... show more

This lightweight and well-balanced auger is suitable for one or two-man operation. The powerful motor runs smoothly and quietly, and you can easily throttle it using either your left or right hand.

    • Good for Specific Jobs
It was easy to setup and start using. Probably 10 minutes to assemble the 36" auger and 12" extension. I drilled five holes so far. It works reasonably well and isn't too heavy. My soil is totally soaked at the surface and harder packed clay below. There are occasional rocks. If you don't have a tamping bar, you should get one with a chisel point to break up hard to reach rocks. It's not too difficult for one man to control if you're reasonably athletic. The thing that took me a while to figure out is when the auger stalls out from hitting a rock or something, the shock absorbing spring can get wound up 1/4-1/2 a turn. If you try to just take your hands off the handles it will unwind rapidly--it bent my thumb back uncomfortably that way. You can easily unwind it with your upper body and maintain control, though. It gets a little laborious to remove from the hole once it's in there a couple of feet, but other than that it's pretty easy to lift and move. It does the job really well. Good value, and so far, pretty reliable. No trouble starting so far. The gas tank is a little leaky if you leave the unit tipped onto that side. ---Update I drilled 22 holes about 40 inches deep through a layer of ~1 foot topsoil and the rest is clay to set some posts for a pole building. It is extremely laborious. If there are multiple rocks or roots in the hole, it took at least an hour to get to the desired depth. In ideal conditions it was about 30-45 minutes of very hard labor. If you have any back or cardiovascular problems, I'd think twice about using this extensively. If your project is in an accessible location, you should definitely rent a skid steer/auger type contraption. You could probably drill 10 holes in the time it takes to drill 1 with this. On the other hand, I used this to drill holes to plant 2 new cherry trees and it was nearly perfect for that task. So, all in all I would not recommend it for a big construction job, but I would for drilling holes for planting, or for occasional use, like setting a post for a mailbox or similar things. ... show more

I have had this auger for several months now. I have used it quite a bit, I have never had a problem starting it or keeping it running. It will catch on big rocks or tree roots and turn out of your hands, just something to be mindful of. I have let it sit for a month at a time without starting it and it starts up great every time. The same fuel has been in it since the first time I used it. after about ten 50 inch deep holes and 8 to 10 inches around it finally needs fuel again. so it is easy on fuel. still need post hole diggers to clean the loose debris out of the holes though. ... show more

    • Wiring issues…
The Wires come loose constantly, rendering it inoperable. It has been doing it since it was brand new. It provides about a minute’s worth of use before the wires disconnect and shut the unit off. The wires are stretched too short to put new ends on them. It had the problem since it was new. It was a manufacture defect. As someone who was once very loyal to the company, they never responded to my emails or anything. I’m incredibly disappointed. I basically wasted my money on the unit. It’s a shame, as Earthquake used to make amazing products like their tillers. Maybe they’ll respond to my review… ... show more

    • Spectacular drill!
I ordered this unit earlier in the year, and just this weekend got around to building a fence with it. I used the 8 inch auger and wow... this thing was awesome! I built am 18 pole 4x4 fence using this thing to drill my post holes. The machine started on the second pull out of the box, and has absolutely enough power to drill in my heavier clay/silt soil here. I had 18 holes drilled in less than 20 minutes. Because of the two man handle design/one man handle option, this machine worked very well for me to use along with my son. I also used it as a one man unit. ... show more

    • Doesn't fit Outrigger
The Outrigger WILL NOT fit this model despite Amazon bundling them together! You need the model 43101 according to Earthquake, the manufacturer. If you have rocky soil you will absolutely need the Outrigger to save your arms.
