  • Two year updated review
I don't know if Dyson still sells these refurbished units but I bought on on 11/11/2016, today is 11/11/2018 and for the first time this year, I've had to pull this heater out. Mine was in better shape than some of the others I've seen on here. The only real "damage" to the outside is one little 3 inch scratch on the back of it. I really didn't know if we needed one of these. Our house has dual heat pumps (one gas, the other electric) but I watched too many remodel your house shows and had built an office into the long excess space in our living room. The problem with that? The office sits directly across the hall from the front door, we have two dogs and two kids, the kids are always running outside, dogs run out to use the bathroom and we live in an area that has rough winters. Even today, 11/11, the high was 30, the low tonight is going to be 16. Still, I'm not a person that gets cold but my wife, the kids, the dogs and my senior mom who lives with us are all those beings that hear "32 degrees" and act like we're living inside a glacier. This heater was bought solely for the office. It does a perfect job of keeping the room as warm if not warmer than the rest of the house. To give you an idea of how the room's temperature varies, on average, in cold months, it's 3-5 degrees cooler than the other rooms. Part of the reason is there is only one heat vent in the room and the entrance way of the house connects to it so that's roughly 11x25 that the one vent is trying to heat. It would make sense to put another vent in but the room is at the mid-point of the house and the roof on the outside is raised. Under the floor is a basement where the heating duct is. This one vent is the only one in this area of the house. Adding another is just going to take heat away from this one. That made buying this refurbished heater a very good deal. Even if we had to buy a new one, it would be cheaper than busting out cinder to put another vent. The funniest part is we have a little dog that has very little fur, we thought he was a dachshund/pekingese mix but he's a pug/beagle or puggle. He stays in the office when this heater is on. Just using basic calculations, it costs about $4 more per month on electricity, to set this on a timer to run 30 minutes every 3 hours. I like it so much that we might still buy another one to put in our basement. I did put heat vents down there but because there are only two walls it's a big, open area. We only use section of the basement for daily use (kids have games down there, pool table, and some exercise equipment). I'll probably put a wall up to close that section off some and get another one of these heaters do go in the office and move this one down to the basement. The only complaint I've had with it is it will shut itself off. Last winter, I remember it being below zero one day and we all came in from work/school and turned it on. About 10 minutes later, it shut off. It turned back on with the remote but I don't know it's some kind of overheating protection or if it just decided I should be punished for living in such a cold area. Either way, I decided to write this update because I was back here checking to see if they had any of the refurbished models left. I would estimate we've used it 180 days x 2 hours per day without any other problems. There is a thermometer in the office and the temperature goes up 4-5 degrees in 30 minutes on 74 (keep the house's thermostats set on 71). It's one of my favorite purchases we've made from Amazon. ... show more

  • Love it!
This fan is really great! I got a heck of a deal on Amazon, so I splurged. * There's a magnet on the top of it for the remote to attach to...handy! * It has a mode to blow air on a 'direct vision' path like a typical fan, or a 'peripheral vision' type blowing if you don't want direct air on you. * It tilts forward and backward to direct the air as well as the rotation from left to right * It has a filter on it as well, although I haven't read if I'll be able to clean or change it * It's not as noisy as a normal fan, so I have to have it blowing full force for an ambient white noise sound * Also has a heat mode that blows softly. I would buy one for every room so I wouldn't have to drag it from office to room to living room. I like having moving air in the house and this is great for that. ... show more

  • Not quite there…
This is a DYSON product, so I’m expecting a DYSON performance. But I’m a little disappointed since it does not blow a lot of air. And the air that blows is not cool either. Maybe in the heat setting it would work better. I bought it to cool down my room in Florida- and it’s not working as a DYSON product usually does ... show more

  • Works well but this refurbish is scuffed and scratched
I purchased a refurbished unit for half off ($200 plus tax) and am generally pleased with it considering the savings but wish the refurbishment were better. Unlike refurbished products from most other manufacturers in my experience, this refurbished unit has clearly been heavily used. It was labeled "B grade". There were several scuffs around the outside, many of which I was able to scrub away, and some scratches and paint chips too. Fortunately they weren't significant and a silver marker or touch-up paint will help conceal the chips. The fan and heater appear to work well although I am skeptical that the inner workings may have received the same beatings by the original owner and lack of care during refurbishment as the outer casing. I'm hanging onto my receipt but am cautiously optimistic the fan and heater won't break. I do really like the features of the fan. I found the remote easy to learn and use: you can adjust the fan strength, adjust the heater's temperature, set a timer, and make the fan oscillate. There's also an option to widen or focus the airflow that most of the other Dyson fans don't have. The heater works well as a space heater but it emits a slightly burnt smell that other reviewers have talked about. It also doesn't get as hot as a ceramic space heater on max. Since I bought this unit for $200 and tax and learned from the other reviews that it could come scuffed or worse, I'm generally pleased with how my purchase turned out. It is a bit of a lottery though and I feel lucky the wear on my unit is cosmetic and not too significant. ... show more

  • Worst Product Ever NOT worth the Money
Blows a small amount of cold air when “not running” but in standby mode. Heater broke after 1 cold season, Dyson replaced it, that unit broke after a shorter use time, Dyson wont replace. I would rather spend 30-40 on a cheap heater and throw it away each year than ever buy a Dyson again. It was absolutely the worst appliance purchase I have ever made, Dyson wont honor their product. ... show more

  • Fantastic invention, works perfectly
We have a guest room that has access to the attic. No matter how much weatherizing we did, the room was routinely 5-6 degrees colder (and hotter in the summer) than the rest of the house. So we had two options, on the coldest nights, set the thermostat to blast hot air, rendering the inhabitants of other rooms to bake like turkeys on thanksgiving, or two get a space heater. After doing research I found the Dyson AM09, I also found it at a special price. With the built in thermostat, the dyson keeps the room at an even 70 degrees, and so far I haven't really noticed a big increase in electricity costs. It just works. ... show more
