  • Works well but poor ergonomics
Color: Black/Nickel
In the purest sense, this is a good fan - puts out plenty of air at a useful height, oscillation function works well as does the sleep timer. Its relatively quiet at lower speed settings, but fairly noisy at full blast. But ergonomically, its not well thought out. The only control on the unit itself is a tiny power button, which is located at the very bottom, an inch or two off of the floor. So you either have to bend way down to use it, or use the remote control. The only display on the unit is a small two-digit LED display, which shows you either the current speed (1-10) or the sleep timer (shows remaining minutes when less than one hour remaining, or the number of hours remaining). The included remote is a bit on the small side. It has four controls - a power button as on the unit, a button to toggle oscillation on/off, a button to increase or decrease the sleep timer, and a button to increase or decrease the fan speed. The remote mounts magnetically to the top of the unit, which would go a long way to compensating for the tiny tower button located all the way at the bottom. It *could* function as a removable control panel on top of the unit, except that *the remote mounts button-side down*, so to use it you have to lift it up off of the unit and turn it over, and this is more difficult than it should be because the remote is fairly small, and the receiver for its signal is located at the very bottom of the unit near the power button, and it doesn't work well unless its pointed directly there. ... show more

  • Higher pitch hiss/whurr sounding. Moves air. Don't lose remote! Over-priced. Worth it?
Color: Black/Nickel
I have bought many tower fans over the years. I use one in my small bedroom and am very picky about the noise. All tower fans I have bought...and i have tried all the main brands from all the local stores....they start out quiet, then after a year or 2 of use, start making noises, sometimes with the fan motor, but mainly with the oscillation motor. A few simply just stop working. I have trashed several very nice tower fans that start making clicking, grinding, whining, or buzzing noises that disturb me at night They also are miserable to clean as the slim long blades clog with dust very fast. My current Holmes tower fan just blew up. While researching tower fans online....since no stores sell fans in the Winter here....stumbled across this Dyson. (I have heard of ther fancy super expensive vacuums....never cared for them.) $300 for a fan!!! Waaa? Crazy! Well....I pretty much said screw it and bought this over engineered, ridiculously priced thing....tired of throwing away fans and money every year. Figure, it must be the best thing on the market....if this won't work out for me...then nothing will. And it's advertised to be quieter than regular fans. First of, have to say, the design is very cool looking. And NO blades to get dusty and have to get a face mask and air compressor blow gun out to clean. No DeathBeam LEDs or loud beeps either. Good build quality and feel, but not astoundingly so considering the price tag. (I have had $60 tower fans that were solidly made of thick plastic...and some that were cheap thin junk). DON'T lose the remote! You can only adjust the settings via the remote control. Only power button on the unit itself. Also, the remote buttons is a completely flat/flush to the case. No way to feel the buttons in the dark. Would be nice if buttons were backlit. Sound. Best I can describe the sound this fan makes vs a standard fan.....take a deep breath, close your mouth, and blow a lot of air out of your nose fairly hard.....that kinda noise is what this sounds like. As with any fan, each type and brand/model has its own sound. I am used to low motor hum and air blowing noise from standard fans. This Dyson fan is much more of a higher pitch hiss/whurr sound to its operation. Takes some getting used to. At 1(lowest setting) is is near silent, but moves very little air. 2 and 3, I can barely hear a slight sound, 4 it is a noticeable hiss, but not disturbing, 5 and higher, its certainly a noticeable hiss. At 8 and higher, its a much louder higher pitch hiss that is close to the sound of my portable AC unit blowing air. Level 3 is the highest I can have it set for sleeping. It still blows a little less the amount of air on this setting then my previous Holmes tower fan did on its medium-low setting. On highest setting, the Dyson moves a good amount of air. Its more balanced or gentle breeze like air that comes out of this fan. A regular fan is more, harsh or forceful. The oscillation is faster than I would like. Sadly, they didn't add a oscillation speed adjustment to this expensive fan. It is totally silent when it oscillates. Only time will tell if it stays that way. Overall, my expectations were a expectedly quite high for such a huge price tag for a fan..more than 4x the price of a regular tower fan. (Retail is $399, Amazon has it for $319 at time of my purchase). I feel it is indeed over priced. But there is nothing else like it on the market and it's a piece of fancy engineering....so of course it's pricy. At this high a price and compared to the base features of cheap fans, I would want more fine controls and fancy features. I would say fair price would be around the $150 range personally(2x the cost of regular tower fan). Dyson does make other fans, with Air filter, Heat, even wifi and Bluetooth control...but they cost a couple hundred more than this "basic" fan model. ... show more

  • Pricey...but effective
Color: Black/Nickel
Wow very difficult decision to pay so much for a room fan. Most room fans are $30-40 at the most. This one is 10 times that price. Is it worth it? No mystery here. There are pro's and con's, like any other product. After some trepidation, I did click to buy here on Amazon. First of all, it was delivered by the US Postal Service. Good and bad. The box was not covered by any paper or in another box. In other words, it had all the graphics showing that it was the Dyson blade less fan. You know expensive $$$. So any one who saw the box can easily tell what is inside. I am sure this was a tempting piece to steal, when its just drop on your doorstep, during our heatwave of temps in the 115 degrees. Although this is not an issue where I live, I can see this happening in a less secure neighborhood. The other issue was putting the pieces together. It makes it apparent from online videos that the two parts the base and tower just click on easily. Although it does. The bottom or base clicks on tightly, and you can hear the click. But the tower piece does not click, it just goes into place. So you will spend a few more minutes making sure its on secure. The other question I have. Can this process be reverse. To store and transport? Anyone know? I tried but it did not work. The cooling part of this Air Multiplier AM07 Tower fan, is a new experience. The air flow is slower and more even. Its constant and softer. It feels like a brand new type of air is being made from within. The other issue is the sound. The higher it works for more air flow, the louder it gets. And this unit is suppose to be much quieter by 60% than the AM02. Its very noticeable. Its not annoying, but I expected less noise. I have it placed in the bedroom, and it feels good. Constant flow, even stream of air. I leave it at 2-3 power setting. On days that it is hotter, it will be 4-5. Oh yes, the remote thing. Its magnetic, good. Its small... bad. I can see losing this thing real fast. To replace the batteries you have to unscrew the thing. And there are no on board setting controls. There is one power on and off, but that does not always work for what you need. The materials are very light weight, making me think, How cheap is this made, and is this cost justified to the public. Designed by James Dyson, and made in...wait for it....China no, Malaysia. Tariffs issue? I give it four stars to leave room for improvement. Enjoy your hot Summer days. AF~ ... show more
