  • Great PETG, even for a beginner.
Color: 1kg White
UPDATE 3/23/2021 I've been through 3 rolls and buying my 4th. This has become my go-to PETG brand. I have performed small tweaks here and there but overall I have never had major issues with the print quality. 99% of the time the prints come out fine or near perfect. The handful of times I have had issues have been user error. I most definitely will continue buying this brand. I have only used white so far for the sake of consistency. I will probably try other colors eventually but even if they don't turn out as well, keep in mind that some colors do need some print profile tweaking and that no matter the manufacturer there will probably be bad batch of a bad spool. I only have about 4 months of 3D printing experience and this is my first time using PETG. Had heard about how difficult it is to get it to print settings right, issues with bed adhesion, stringing, etc. Let me say that as a total noob that yes, I encountered all those issues but with the amount of resources available online I was able to get them all fixed. First issues was adhesion on a PEI bed. I had read plenty of stories of PETG not wanting to stick to it but I didn't have this problem. Even though the rule of thumb is the PETG does not like to be squished like PLA, which I wasn't, I did have to lower it quite abut before I adhered to the bed properly. Next, make sure that regardless of the print bed material, wash it thoroughly with Dawn and hot water. Not a quickie scrub and rinse, but taking your time. Any contaminants can make PETG adhere more strongly to the print bed. The one thing I found out on a Prusa site is that switching directly from PLA to PETG without washing the surface can cause it to stick a lot stronger due to the sugar and starch residue from PLA. So let me repeat it: If switching materials, WASH THE PRINT BED WITH DAWN AND HOT WATER. Afterwards clean the printbed, especially PEI with IPA or denatured alcohol in between prints. After the alcohol apply a liberal amount of Windex and wipe it down with a paper towel. Don't wipe all the Windex, just leave a wet film on the print bed and heat it up to dry it. The alcohol will clean the surface from hand oil residues left over and the Windex will provide a thin film that will prevent the PETG from bonding to the bed. If you want to take it a step further then you can put a very light coat of talc on the bed. It should not be noticeable, just a very light haze. I let the print bed cool to room temp for a couple of hours before trying to remove it. Sometimes it would come right off and other times the print was stuck pretty solidly to the PEI bed but after putting it into the freezer for about an 15 minutes to an hour it just came off as if the print was just placed on the print bed. I had previously only used Windex but it still required a bit of elbow grease to get the part off the bed. Either way it's a good precaution to keep a print from fusing to the print bed since I can imagine different brands might have different levels of adhesion. On a stock Ender 3 I got my best results using 240 Nozzle and 80 bed. Keep the fan off for the first few layers to allow it to properly adhere to the bed and then use a max fax temp of 50%. I had some stringing issues with the retraction settings of 2mm distance and 40mm speed. After increasing the distance to 3mm nearly all the stringing was gone except for some very thin wispy strings like spiderwebs you can wipe away or use a heat gun or torch on. Finally, slow down your print speeds. I had to slow it down to about 20-25mm to get good quality and adhesion. Take your time and you can do really well. I know many have complained about PETG and there is no doubt that there is a difference between different brands so take the time to learn the particular quirks of each one instead of assuming they are all the same and leaving a bad review that only says "This filament sucks!" with no details about your printer, settings, or even a pic of the problem. One thing I have learned and always keep in mind is that no matter how much experience you have with something you should never assume that there is nothing to left to learn. ... show more

  • With tweaks, prints really well! Finish is great, slight stringing.
Color: 1kg Black
To preface, I've had very good results with their PLA (black, white). Overall, this is a great PETG filament with great finish and good strength. See my settings below. Printer: CR-10 MIrror bed (much flatter than stock bed - Lowes/HD carry 6 packs for ~$10-15, also IKEA) NO heated chamber Adhesion: Glass - bare -- peels/warps on prints with 'ears' Glass - tape -- same (lifts tape in corners) Glass - aquanet hairspray w/BRIM -- almost no peeling/warping Settings: NOZZLE - 235-250 BED - 70 (peels more on lower temps, but can work at 60) FAN - 0 first ~5-10 layers / 60% rest (or lowest it can go while maintaining quality) Some notes: Stringing and zits are mostly caused by accumulation on the nozzle. Make sure it's clean before you print and stays clean during first layer. Retraction settings might help with this. PETG is more resistant to heat if using outdoors. It is a more brittle BUT stronger/tougher than PLA but less forgiving to print than ABS. It can be more flexible and stronger than PLA for snap fits if designed properly, otherwise it will shatter easier than PLA. Update: Unlike the other negative review for the black, I think it's superior compared to other brands on here. It's stronger, no layer adhesion issues, less moisture out of the bag, and good for compliant mechanisms even in weakest orientations. Other brands have been far more brittle. Although It does love to creep up the nozzle, and it's hard to prevent all stringing. So while print 'quality' is technically worse than some others, the properties seem to be way better. ... show more

  • Updated. Silver sooo bad. (edit: because its PLA not PETG)
Color: 1kg Silver
Update Aug 14, 2020 When trying to dial in this "PETG" I smelled PLA. Test prints were hard and brittle like PLA. So I ran some test prints at PLA settings and I get perfect prints. So, either it is the most PLA acting PETG with zero PETG properties or the PETG I ordered with a box and spool both labeled as PETG is really PLA. I do not know how widespread this QA gaff is, but beware when you order the silver PETG as it may very well not be PETG. Minus 5 stars for being really bad PETG. Plus 2 starts for being decent PLA. Filament: Duramic 3D PETG Silver Printer: Original Prusa i3 MK3S Settings: everything from 220/30 - 270/90 I had very high hopes for this filament after reading all the 5 star reviews and the favorable comparisons to Overture PETG. My experience is that it is nowhere as versatile as any other PETG I have used (Overture ColorMe3D, Hatchbox, NovaMaker, Prusament). Opaque PETG is generally more difficult than clear or translucent, but this Duramic 3D silver PETG is in a class by itself. It prints like it is PLA that wants to be PETG minus the forgiveness of PLA. Specifically, poor first layer adhesion. With other PETG I have to use a release agent like glue stick so I can remove the print. With this Duramic 3D I have clean the bed like I would for cheap PLA. Interlayer bonding is terrible at all temps up to 265C at which point other issues come in (stringing, falling overhangs). This filament really does not want to stick to itself. I have a spool of their translucent blue I will try out and update this review once I have used that spool. After leaving comments on Duramic's website to make them aware they had a QA problem, they insisted on sending me another spool to try even though I told them I already had been refunded by Amazon. After trying this second spool I have to say it is a good PETG. I still have to dial in the settings a bit to get a smooth print. I just tried it using my Overature PETG settings and it prints pretty good. I no longer have a problem recommending this PETG and will probably buy it over Overature based on price. ... show more
