I bought the12k BTU version of this unit to supplement another unit I already have in my garage on the hottest summer days. It is vented through an exterior wall with 6" round metal duct. It is quieter than the other unit, and it does blow ice cold air (low 40's). However, it is NOT drainage free as advertised, in fact it's far from it. It POURS water out, while the unit next to it hasn't dripped a single drop in 3 years. It drains so much water that I had to buy a 10 ft section of 1" ID flexible hose to run it to a safe place to drain by the garage door. The photo of the water drainage is after ONLY 1 hour of running the unit, and it's only 80 degrees outside today with low humidity (30%). I'd send it back but I've already sent two other portable AC units back because of lackluster performance (barely achieving upper 40's / lower 50's output air). I'd rather have a unit that blows really cold but drains constantly than a unit that doesn't drain but doesn't blow ice cold air. With that being said, I would definitely NOT recommend this unit for an indoor area with finished floors (hardwood or carpeting).

It does 'some' cooling but not so much when you really need it. It's also so loud like the air is constantly hitting against something. And then when you just need it to stay on, it acts like it's on Auto anyway and just changes. Going on and off or into fan mode. And, for Auto mode, is really not comfortable to rest to as it loudly shifts modes. The fan shield also squeaks and doesn't go low enough for me to stop it to just over the bed, which helped more with other ACs.

First of all this is my first time using a unit like this that's not fully in the window. Also I don't really like that it's called portable because it's just as heavy, if not heavier, than the other window ones. For usage it definitely works I tried it on a day that was 80 degrees and it seemed to cool the room enough. I have not tested it in climates hotter than this. It doesn't work the best in my window but not terrible. I like the fact that it's dehumidifies as well. Because sometimes I wanted to dehumidify and not fully AC the room. Not sure about the btu stated on it, I feel like it definitely wouldn't cool a larger room, the room I'm using it in is a medium sized room. The other thing is it does take space in a room but any portable one officially would do the same exact thing. The controller is a little bit interesting but I love the the smart aspect of it, very useful. One of the reasons why I chose portable is because I use this in a home office that I don't necessarily like having the window slightly open like this all the time and I kind of like how I can pull it out just lock the window. It's also great for crazy storms outside that you might need to quickly pull it in. It has its flaws but I feel like this unit is pretty decent.

Having a mostly south-facing house, a couple rooms tend to overheat: the guest bedroom, and my home office. The HVAC system wasn't built to target specific rooms and is rather inefficient, so I'd been looking for a way to deliver targeted air conditioning to these rooms on an as-needed basis without requiring a full window install. So far, this item fits the bill. I've had it running in my office now for a while. The south-facing windows get MAJOR sun here in Florida for multiple hours a day, and I've got a lot of computers in here, so even if the rest of the house is 70° this room can reach 80° or higher. Even in the winter, if the heat is on to keep the rest of the house livable, it can get REALLY warm in here. Well, time for a portable AC! Setup and install was easy. Used the foam inserts to secure the seals on the now permanently-open window. It's at the front of the house but the window space required is a flat frame and is not obvious from the outside, though I will have to figure out a new security option since the secure window lock is no longer usable. Settings on the device are sane and nothing crazy. There's a wifi option but I haven't used it. Cooling is loud, but honestly, not too bad and worth it while it's on. Once it's at temp the actual cooling only happens sporadically (VERY small room when the doors are closed) and it's very quick to cool, so not concerned about loud sounds. For example, I've got it on now at night, and my white noise fan is louder than the AC (not cooling) fan. If I end up keeping it in here permanently I'd be able to give up the white noise fan in favor of the AC in fan-mode (or cooling mode, in the cases where I need to close the office doors overnight (which is never??)). As for other miscellany: unpacking was easy, just cut the straps and lift the box out. Hypothetically the box could be used for storage but the unit has wheels so it'll probably just get wheeled around into closets when necessary. Overall quite pleased with both the ease of installation and the immediate cooling provided post install. Great stuff!
