I've had this mixer for 18 months and use it often to make cakes, cookie dough and bread dough. It stands up to all that or it has until now. Also there is no "slow" speed. I made bread dough this past weekend and everything was fine. Tonight, (2 days later) I prepared all the ingredients to make another bread dough and one beater would not insert and lock into the chamber. It just won't lock into place. I'm so sad! I didn't want to waste all the ingredients for the bread so ran to my local big box store and bought a replacement. Will go on line to seek a fix. I love that it stands up on it's own and that the power cord can be wound in and stored safely out of reach. Anyway, it's been fine up until now and aside from the no slow speed (which I usually cover the bowl with a towel to prevent ingredients from flying out of the bowl) I really like it. ... show more

I bought this due to the amount of cooking and wanting a hand held, sturdy mixer. Honestly, I am a little disappointed since the low speed is pretty fast for mixing ingredients at the beginning of baking. I bought it to subsidize my Kitchen Aid large mixer as I thought it would be easy and good. I think my large mixer works better (of course) and I may not drag this out very often. I may change this review but so far, doesn't seem to help me in the kitchen. I will say that if you do not have a large Kitchen Aid mixer, or you have to drag it in and out of a cupboard, this does seem powerful Also, is said it was 350 watts but it is only 300.     • Flawed Switch Design

Though it has some good qualities, the Dualit 88520 has a couple of important flaws. It is comfortable in the hand, powerful and drives flat-bladed beaters, rather than wire ones, which means that it mixes/whips things more quickly. I haven’t tested it on dough yet, but I assume that it will also mix stiffer dough than mixers with less power. The two problems are with the on/off/speed control switch. The switch, which is designed to be operated with the thumb of the hand holding the mixer, is so stiff that when one finally pushes it hard enough to turn it on, it jumps to the 2 or 3 speed position, rather than starting at 1. So if you start with the beaters in whatever flour or liquid you want to mix, the mixer splatters it all over. The second problem is that even when you get the speed back down to 1, it is still too fast. The mixer we replaced had a low speed which was much slower than the Dualit. When I contacted the service agency, they said that they had had other complaints about this same problem. There is no fix. Dualit needs to re-engineer this mixer's switch. Until they do, I suggest that you buy something else. ... show more

We've burned through hand mixers in the past very quickly with our home bakes. But this one already feels solid. Good weight in the hand and the motor sounds great. I only wish I could get attachments that come with a silicone coating or something so we can use it in our pans that are prone to scratch. ... show more

This mixer is quiet, has very sturdy beaters, and all the power you need. I bought it after going thru 3 mixers in 3 years, even Cuisinart. And I usually use the mixer 1-2 times a week for make potatoes and cookies. Its design is quite convenient. It stands nicely on end between tasks, and is well balanced for easy handling. I have a home-based baking business, and I often do double, triple or even quadruple batches of cookies. I wasn't sure a stand mixer would accommodate that volume, and I wasn't quite ready to shell out the $$ for a stand mixer anyway, so I went with this hand mixer. I figured with comments like, "It's almost TOO powerful" and "I wish it had a lower speed," it might meet my needs. I am not a person to take out a for small jobs, anyway. This mixer has not disappointed! For larger volume projects, I am very pleased with its strength & capacity to mix stiff cookie dough.
